-Judas Priest U.S. Summer Tour Confirmed, Priest To Perform Classic
BRITISH STEEL Release In Its Entirety!
For the past few years, Judas Priest has unquestionably ruled the U.S.
summer concert scene, having been a part of both the top-grossing
Ozzfest and Metal Masters tours. And this summer, Priest has done it
again, by uniting with Whitesnake for a series of stateside shows.
Priest will be celebrating the 30th Anniversary of the classic album
BRITISH STEEL (it was originally issued in April 1980), by performing
the album in its entirety for the very first time ever live on
stage!!! In addition they will be playing some old favorites.
Along with 1982's SCREAMING FOR VENGEANCE and 1990's PAINKILLER,
BRITISH STEEL has long been considered one of metal's all-time
classics. It was with this release that Priest truly broke through to
the masses, with a pair of tracks that have become fixtures on rock
radio -- the enduring anthems "Breaking The Law" and "Living After
Midnight." But like all classic albums, there is not a single weak
track detected on BRITISH STEEL, as evidenced by such standouts as the
perennial concert highlight, "Metal Gods," as well as "Rapid Fire,"
"Grinder," "United," and "The Rage," among others.
Produced by Tom Allom, BRITISH STEEL was recorded at the Tittenhurst
Park in England -- which is a mansion owned at the time by former
Beatle Ringo Starr, and previously owned by John Lennon and Yoko Ono.
In 2001, the album was re-mastered and reissued with extra bonus
tracks, and also, was the subject of an in-depth study as part of the
popular "Classic Albums" DVD series.
Judas Priest -- singer Rob Halford, guitarists Glenn Tipton and K.K.
Downing, bassist Ian Hill, and drummer Scott Travis -- remain as
popular as ever to this day, confirmed once and for all upon the
release of 2008's NOSTRADAMUS, which became their highest-ever
charting album in the U.S. Two years earlier, the group was the
inaugural inductees into the VH1 Rock Honors. The forthcoming summer
dates with Whitesnake are surely not to be missed by metalheads from
coast to coast, especially now that fans will be reintroduced up close
and personal to the mighty BRITISH STEEL.
Along with Priest, Whitesnake is certainly one of the most instantly
identifiable names in all of hard rock. Priest and Whitesnake toured
together in 2005 (in Mexico and South America), resulting in such a
well-received and great package that since then, both groups have been
planning to work together again. This summer, U.S. fans will finally
get their wish.
"The opportunity to perform live on stage in its entirety the whole of
BRITISH STEEL is a dream come true for all of us! We're really excited
and looking forward to presenting the album live on stage -- fans will
be able to enjoy a taste of true heavy metal when it was in its early,
raw state!" said the group in a statement. "Plus, we will of course be
throwing in a few other Priest classics!"

-New Heaven & Hell Single "Bible Black" Now Available For Download
Exclusive 7" Vinyl Single Available For Record Store Day On April 18
New Album THE DEVIL YOU KNOW Available April 28 From Rhino
LOS ANGELES -- "Bible Black," the first single from Heaven & Hell's
highly anticipated new album THE DEVIL YOU KNOW, is now available for
download from all digital retailers. The epic tale was one of the
first songs written for the new album and finds the quartet of Ronnie
James Dio, Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler, and Vinny Appice in top form.
"When you start off with a blockbuster like that, it makes the rest of
the album so much easier because it gives you a benchmark to measure
the other songs against," says Dio. "Bible Black" begins with Iommi on
acoustic guitar behind Dio's plaintive wail before the rhythm shifts
to a menacing stomp for the rest of this dark tale about a book of
sinister scriptures. The song is also streaming at
http://www.myspace.com/heavenandhellmusic .
A limited edition 7" vinyl single of "Bible Black" will be available
exclusively for this year's Record Store Day on April 18 for a
suggested list price of $5.98. The single's B-side features a live
version of "Neon Knights" recorded at the band's heralded Radio City

-Great White To Release New Album RISING On Shrapnel Records April
21st
Tour Dates Announced
HOLLYWOOD, CA -- Multi-Platinum rock band Great White, celebrated the
25th anniversary of the band's inception with the release of BACK TO
THE RHYTHM in 2006. The band's new record RISING is a no-holds-barred,
all-original LP that is among their strongest releases to date. The
band's new CD is their second studio recording in 10 years and
features 11 brilliant new compositions penned by the band.
An international phenomenon, Great White has been reported to have
sold in excess of 10 million units internationally, including the
double platinum ...TWICE SHY, which spawned the Grammy-nominated Ian
Hunter cover of "Once Bitten, Twice Shy." With other hits such as
"Rock Me," "Face The Day" and "Save Your Love" cranked up around the
world, Great White established themselves to the masses as a classic
rock band with memorable riffs, steeped in the hallowed tradition of
blues and rock and roll.
Eschewing an '80s production in favor of a retro/modern one, long-time
band producer and keyboardist Michael Lardie captures the essence of
Great White with a sound that has more in common with the Rolling
Stones, Aerosmith and Led Zeppelin than that of their contemporaries.
Unlike many bands of the era that are making new records, Great White
consists of nearly all original members. The guitar and vocal team of
Jack Russell and Mark Kendall are stronger than ever on this explosive
new CD and have a unique synergy, not unlike Plant/Page, Tyler/Perry
or Jagger/Richards.

-Lacuna Coil Premieres New Video For "Spellbound"
Italy's greatest musical export, Lacuna Coil, has returned with the
massively anticipated, new full-length release, SHALLOW LIFE, which is
set for an April 21st North American release. The album was recorded
with acclaimed producer Don Gilmore (Avril Lavigne, Linkin Park, Pearl
Jam) at the famed NRG Studios in Los Angeles. The group recently
completed a stunning new video for the Active Rock smash hit
"Spellbound" that was shot in their hometown of Milan, Italy at D&G
Gold. The clip was directed by Saku, produced by Apnea Film and
wardrobe was provided by Dolce & Gabbana. Click below to watch the
video on YouTube!
Cristina Scabbia (vocals) comments: "Hello to all the rockers out
there. We're currently in Denver on the 'Music As A Weapon IV' tour
and we're having a great time. It's just amazing for us to be able to
test some of the new songs in front of so many new people and to see
such great reactions.
"We had a great time shooting the video for 'Spellbound' and it also
marks our first time working with acclaimed Italian director Saku in a
location that's really peculiar. It was filmed in a very fashionable
place: the restaurant 'Gold' located in Milan, Italy, which is owned
by the fashion designers Dolce & Gabbana, who kindly gave us the
permission to film over there!
"The location provides the perfect atmosphere to express the SHALLOW
LIFE theme. Everything is really shiny and 'bling bling' and the band
is performing in the middle of a golden room full of mirrors and giant
chandeliers. "The story is rounded out by some actors that are
interpreting different aspects of being under a spell of something:
the girl obsessed by her weight and look, the guy who wants to be a
superman, the politician, etc. We can't wait for you guys to see it
and give us your impressions on the new album. See you all soon."
An incredible, specially priced SHALLOW LIFE pre-order package is now
exclusively available through CMDistro.com and this is a must for all
diehard fans. The limited number package includes the SHALLOW LIFE CD,
an 8x10 glossy band photo, a guitar pick, SHALLOW LIFE cover sticker
and a choice between a Lacuna Coil necklace or belt buckle. NOTE: All
materials included are exclusive to this pre-order and can't be found
anywhere else. Be sure to hurry as supplies are limited.
Fans can now also rejoice as Lacuna Coil are performing some new
material on this spring's "Music As A Weapon IV" festival. Lacuna Coil
joins such hard rock titans as Disturbed and Killswitch Engage
crisscrossing the U.S. before finishing May 16th. The 38-city "Music
As A Weapon IV" fest marks the group's first run of North America in
almost two years. Feel free to visit the newly revamped MySpace page
to view their complete touring itinerary.

Napalm Records: May Releases
Alestorm - BLACK SAILS AT MIDNIGHT
The Scottish buccaneers stand ready to capture the wealth of the Seven
Seas. BLACK SAILS AT MIDNIGHT offers a treasure chest of sweeping
Scottish Pirate Metal worthy of any loot-loving corsair. Irresistible
growling choruses from the port side and lively keyboard melodies and
heavy metal riffs from the starboard side form the basis of this
highly explosive rum-induced metal mix. The catchy tales of life on
the high seas, including "Keelhauled" or "The Quest," use authentic
instruments (violin, horns) to give these maritime jewels their final
polish. Producer Lasse Lamert (LSD Studio) has given BLACK SAILS AT
MIDNIGHT a unique and powerful sound, which earned him many a wench
and much wealth from Captain Morgan's personal stash, while James
Murphy, known for his outstanding work with Death and Obituary, took
over the mastering responsibilities. The album's limited edition
includes a live bonus DVD featuring the buccaneers' entire 2008 Wacken
performance. Alestorm have hoisted the black sails...Let the raids
begin!

Tyr - BY THE LIGHT OF THE NORTHERN STAR
The Tyr Vikings have completed their latest work under the glow of the
North Star. On BY THE LIGHT OF THE NORTHERN STAR the Faroese band
delivers catchy yet technically brilliant tracks, and once again
demonstrates how to impressively unite the contemporary present with
the mythological past. Traditional homeland melodies, Viking choruses,
and classic heavy metal songs, such as "Hold The Heathen Hammer High"
or even the title track, offer fans new and powerful hymns.
Responsible for the brilliance of this "Northern Star" is once again
front man and mastermind Heri Joensen, who provides an undisputed
goose bump factor with his clean and majestic vocals. BY THE LIGHT OF
THE NORTHERN STAR offers Viking Metal that only Tyr can forge. Follow
the North Star to Asgard!

Glittertind - LANDKJENNING
With LANDKJENNING (in English "Landing"), Glittertind commemorates the
history and poetry of the Norwegian homeland. Traditional melodies and
Nordic sounds determine the overall picture of an album that
nevertheless finds repeated diversity in its placement of drums and
fast riffs. The folkloric sounds delivered by authentic instruments of
old skillfully merge with modern elements to create catchy, detail-
oriented works. The clean and powerful vocals, sung in Norwegian, give
LANDKJENNING a unique touch. The very profound lyrical concept
revolves around Norway's Christianization and transports the listener
100 years back into the past, to a time where one had to decide
between the new religion and the traditional old ways. Kris Verwimp's
(Arkona, Crimfall, Moonsorrow) artistic know-how has impressively
captured this lyrical theme graphically. Glittertind's latest album is
an authentic and primal piece of music that will undoubtedly capture
the hearts of Folk Metal fans worldwide.

http://www.myspace.com/glittertind
Trail Of Tears - BLOODSTAINED ENDURANCE
Not unlike the phoenix, Trail Of Tears rises from the ashes presenting
their sixth album with a newfound strength. BLOODSTAINED ENDURANCE
unites the best elements of past releases and advances them to a new
level. Hard metal riffs and a pulsing rhythm section form the
foundation for sweeping and emotive vocal duels between Ronny Thorsen
and Cathrine Paulsen, whose unique voice, which can also be heard on
the band's first album, delivers the necessary goose bump factor. The
duo impressively crowns the symphonically arranged keyboard and
orchestral passages. Terje Refsnes of the legendary Soundsuite Studios
provides the perfect sound, as he also did on Tristania and Sirenia's
most successful releases, while Finnvox gives BLOODSTAINED ENDURANCE
the final polish in the mastering department. Moving Gothic Metal that
distances itself from all clichés -- A very impressive renaissance
indeed!
http://www.trailoftears.no/
http://www.myspace.com/trailoftearsmetal
Stream Of Passion - THE FLAME WITHIN
Originally the brainchild of Arjen Lucassen (Ayreon, Star One, etc.),
Stream Of Passion is now ready to release its second studio album. THE
FLAME WITHIN leaves its predecessor in the dust thanks to maturer
songwriting that presents a further developed band able to give Gothic
Metal a newfound profundity. Carried by Marcela Bovios' fantastic
vocal lines, Stream Of Passion delivers the entire spectrum of human
emotions -- at times dreamy and melancholic, at others uninhibited and
forward pressing. In this way, heavy riffs merge with romantic
undertones in majestic unity. Jens Bogren's (Fascination Street
Studios) mastering work allows the tracks' subtle nuances to come into
play. THE FLAME WITHIN is more than a loosely arranged sequence of
songs, but rather a holistic Gothic Metal masterpiece complete with
mystic elements and sonorous symphonic romanticism.

-New From AFM Records!
Band: Elvenking
Record: TWO TRAGEDY POETS (...AND A CARAVAN OF WEIRD FIGURES)
Release Date: April 7, 2009
TWO TRAGEDY POETS (...AND A CARAVAN OF WEIRD FIGURES) is the latest
acoustic album from Italian power/folk metallers Elvenking. Said the
band in a statement: "The [making of] the acoustic album . . . was a
hell of a ride . . . but in the end we reached the goal and we're here
. . . You can expect something unique, that's for sure! This album is
an experiment for us; a journey in a world that was waiting to be
explored." Since 1997, Elvenking have been an active part of the
European scene and have built a rapidly growing and cult fan-base
which has seen them perform with ex-Skyclad/Sabbat singer Martin
Walkyier in the U.K. at Bloodstock Festival (in 2002) and around
Europe in both their home country and Budapest where a strong set at
the Sziget gathering one year had people talking for months. The band
release the excellent HEATHENREEL debut in 2001, but this was only the
beginning. Spreading mystic tales of fantasy and imagination to a
wider audience, this album was awarded Album Of The Month in many
magazines and proved that their mixture of epic power metal and frisky
folk was capable of instantly grabbing attention. The band would
release three more records, each more exceptional than the last. TWO
TRAGEDY POETS (...AND A CARAVAN OF WEIRD FIGURES) finds Elvenking
exploring uncharted waters in a way only Elvenking can.
In Related News: On Saturday March 7th, guitarist Aydan broke his
shoulder in a ski accident and required surgery. "I was skiing with
some friends," the guitarist reports. "I don't know exactly what
happened but I lost my skis and jumped above, landing heavily with my
shoulders and face on a block of ice hard as concrete. My shoulder was
broken and I was operated on Thursday the 12th. The doctors placed a
metal plate fixed with nine screws in order to maintain the bone.
Pretty cool! Now I'm finally back home but I still cannot move the
arm. Obviously I'm not able to play guitar at the moment, but I will
do anything to be able to be back on stage as soon as possible."
Elvenking will utilize the talents of guitarist Leonardo Romanato for
all upcoming live dates.

Release Date: April 21, 2009
Newly signed to AFM, female-fronted Italian modern metal act Exilia
will unleash fourth full-length IN MY ARMY to North American shores on
April 21st, 2009. "We can tell you in advance, 'it rocks!' We're all
very excited and I can tell you, this album is the heaviest record
since the birth of Exilia," said front woman Masha Mismane, in a
statement. "We managed to unleash even more hidden talents of our
great guitarist Alien and with the return of our great drummer Ale,
there is no lack of power! After a lot of hard work on melodies and
lyrics over the past year, I'm also very pleased with the outcome of
my vocals. There are definitely unique elements within every song. I
wanted to give them an edge whilst maintaining the original and true
characteristics of EXILIA. Rock on!" The album was produced by Dave
Chavarri (Ill Nino, Sepultura) and Masha Mysmane, mixed at Temple
Studios in L.A. by Jeremy Blair (Fear Factory, Coal Chamber, Guns N'
Roses) and Jeff Hannanh (Black Light Burns) and mastered at Sterling
Sound in N.Y. by UE Nastasi (Walls Of Jericho, Pantera).

mailorder X-tra-X, Exilia front woman Masha shows her best side by
modelling the new Bat Attack collection. Check it out at:

Band: Ektomorf
Record: WHAT DOESN'T KILL ME...
Release Date: April 21, 2009
Hungarian modern metallers Ektomorf will release brand new studio
album WHAT DOESN'T KILL ME... later this month. The new album will be
the first Ektomorf release on AFM Records. "This signing is a great
new chapter in the band's career and we are very happy about it," said
founder/front man Zoltán Farkas. Ektomorf formed in 1993 in
Mezökovacsházak, Hungary, a small city near the Romanian border, by
Zoltán "Zoli" Farkas. Today, Zoli is the sole original member. The
band is completed by guitarist Tamás Schrottner, bassist Szabolcs
Murvai and drummer Jozsef Szakács. In 2003, the band joined forces
with Danish producer Tue Madsen who helped the band find its sound.
Ektomorf's cutting lyrics revolve around Zoli's gypsy background and
explore the horrors of discrimination, pain and anger. Their music
combines the tenets of primal gypsy music with modern metal elements:
Groovy, down-tuned guitar riffs and aggressive drums, supplemented by
raw screaming vocals. Three years after their fantastic 2006 OUTCAST
album (lauded on European soil as one of the most important neo
thrash/hardcore releases of the year), Ektomorf return with an album
more potent than anything prior. Walls will fall, borders will crash
and once again under the guidance of producer Tue Madsen. View the
album trailer at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kwX6onypzOk .

Band: Tankard
Record: THIRST
Release Date: May 19, 2009
Beer-soaked German thrash legends Tankard are set to release latest
album THIRST to U.S. fans. The new album was produced again by Andy
Classen at his Stage One Studio. A video clip for "Stay Thirsty" will
appear on the limited edition of the record. Formed in 1982 in the
boiler room of the Matthäus Church, Frankfurt/Main, Tankard first took
the stage in 1983. In 1984 they released the first demo and two years
later cult record ZOMBIE ATTACK (Noise). The self-proclaimed "most
ugly band in Germany" would move on to a worldwide musical crusade to
implement the German Purity Law of 1516. James Hetfield and Lars
Ulrich are said to have commented on the band following a bar-hopping
mission through Manhattan (and before deciding on an official name):
"Hey, you guys sound like a mix of Tank and Discharge." Later, German
language magazine Stern, in an article about the subculture of heavy
metal wrote, "their music sounds like a train laden with beer
tankards.... derailed!" Whatever the case, and from whomever the
quote, there's little doubt that Tankard are indeed the founders of
"Alcoholic Metal" and for that they are proud.

Band: The New Black
Record: THE NEW BLACK
Release Date: June 2, 2009
Recently signed to AFM, The New Black will release their self-titled
debut this June. Featuring former members of Sinner, Runamok,
Abandoned or MCF, The New Black play rock. Real rock; real heavy with
all the requisite hooks, leads and riffs galore. Singer Fludid has
been compared to "Zakk Wylde, James Hetfield and Phil Anselmo" (Rock
Hard) and "sometimes even Mike Patton in a 'sane' state of mind"
(Metal Hammer). The screams, the roaring, the harmonies, they're all
there, but most importantly, the guy can actually sing. Add to this
shredding guitars, a well-developed sense of melody and a professional
work ethic, and you get a solid piece of metallic rock. Fans of Thin
Lizzy and Black Label Society, beware. Said Canada's BW&BK magazine :
"[This is] The Real Thing as opposed to the often disposable Next Big
Thing. The New Black makes it on sheer over-the-top delivery and very
obvious love for the simple rock-driven life." Germany's Guitar took
note of the "assured sense of style and passion," while Metal Hammer
simply stated: "Whoever said that bands can't form their own sound
anymore these days, should listen to this -- and then shut up!"
In Related News: Various U.S. and European radio stations picked up on
The New Black, and the band -- unsigned at the time -- was asked to
write the title track for an American road movie called "Ballad Of
Broken Angels." Check out the recently unveiled video of the same name

*** PRESS RELEASE #10 ***
*
-Sweden Rock Festival: Candlemass, Tim "Ripper" Owens, Abramis Brama
And Deströyer 666 Confirmed!
Time to present another four bands confirmed for this year's edition
of Sweden Rock Festival.
We start with Swedish doom legends Candlemass who will come to Sweden
Rock with a brand new album in their luggage to deliver world class
doom. Tim "Ripper" Owens is of course most known for being the
replacement for Rob Halford in Judas Priest, but this extraordinary
vocalist shows that he can stand on his own two feet. Heavy Metal! We
can also present Sweden's own Abramis Brama who will deliver doomy
hardrock with lyrics in Swedish. Don't miss this 'cause they are
something special! Last but not least, extreme thrashers Deströyer
666, all the way from Australia!
Now it's time to buy your ticket!
CANDLEMASS (S)
Candlemass is one of Sweden's all time greatest contributors to hard
rock history, and pioneers of their own genre, epic doom metal.
Records like debut EPICUS DOOMICUS METALLICUS (1986) and its follow-up
NIGHTFALL (1987) are historical, to say the least, and the latter one
also saw the introduction of singer Messiah Marcolin -- a huge
character, in both senses. The following years saw a certain
turbulence within the band, particularly at the vocalist position, and
they even broke up officially a couple of times. 2006, shortly after a
remarkable comeback, Candlemass and Messiah separated once more, but
fortunately his replacement got a tremendous reception from the
audience. American Robert Lowe (Solitude Aeturnus) has already
participated on three Candlemass releases, most recently current
masterpiece DEATH MAGIC DOOM, and now the time has come for (the not
so) "new" Candlemass to make their debut on stage at SRF! A guaranteed
feast for metalheads of all kinds!
TIM "RIPPER" OWENS (US)
This American metal vocalist debuted with the band Winters Bane in
1993, but was virtually unknown until he was discovered by British
behemoths Judas Priest a few years later. Then, on the other hand, he
stunned the entire metal community with his extreme vocal range, which
had rendered him the monicker "Ripper" from the Priests themselves,
referring to the classic song he interpreted so impressively at his
audition. After Judas Priest reunited with Rob Halford in 2003, Owens
moved on to Iced Earth and participated in that band's SRF debut in
2007 before they also reunited with their classic singer, Matt Barlow.
These days Owens sings with yet another legend, Swedish guitar hero
Yngwie Malmsteen, and since 2005 he leads his own band Beyond Fear.
This May sees the release of his solo debut PLAY MY GAME. SRF are
proud to welcome one of the most lauded and prominent metal singers of
our time in 2009!
ABRAMIS BRAMA (S)
Are you unfamiliar with the fact that Abramis Brama is Sweden's
biggest Swedish-singing hard rock band, and that their name means
"(carp) bream" -- a fish -- in Latin? Consider yourself updated then.
Since 1999, this quartet have released three studio albums and one
live in Swedish, silencing many former skeptics who doubted the
concept of groove-based, heavy '70s-style hard rock in anything but
English. After the release of LIVE in 2007 Abramis Brama have kept
relatively silent, and they haven't done SRF since 2004. But here they
are again, to the joy of their many admirers. Those among you who have
not yet seen this brilliant live band in action, are in for a great
epiphany. And in case you're wondering: yes, singer Ulf Torkelsson
really does have a hook for a hand!
DESTRÖYER 666 (AUS)
Extreme thrashers Deströyer 666 were formed in 1994 in Melbourne as
the solo project of main man KK Warslut, but evolved into a "real"
band whose current members reside all around Europe. The band's lyrics
emphasize its members' black metal influences, since they are
explicitly anti-Christian and also often display a fascination for --
wolves! Deströyer 666 is not a very productive group -- their cult-
declared discography consists of no more than four albums and three
EPs. Now, however, their long anticipated fifth album is allegedly on
its way, preliminary entitled SIEGE, and with or without new songs in
the set list, a great time at SRF is guaranteed for all lovers of
primitive, malevolent metal.

-Swashbuckle's Music Featured In "Buccaneer: The Pursuit Of Infamy"
Game
Anyone who believes that pirates do not exist, think again. Scourge of
the Atlantic Coast, Swashbuckle, have been ransacking and pillaging
the eastern seaboard for nearly five years. Signed to Nuclear Blast
Records earlier this year, the trio of metal miscreants makes its port
o' call wherever the winds take them.
Mark Morton of Heavy Metal Examiner recently interviewed Swashbuckle
and uncovered many hidden mysteries! One of which involves this trio's
inclusion in the video game "Buccaneer: The Pursuit Of Infamy" (
http://www.pursuitofinfamy.com/ ). You'll even be surprised to find a
metal-ized version of the "Spongebob" theme (

Swashbuckle are sharpening their cutlasses and preparing to hit the

-Trinidad Rockers Orange Sky Return With Rockin' Sophomore Effort, DAT
IZ VOODOO, And Confirm U.S. Touring
Port Of Spain, Trinidad may not be the first city music fans think of
when the discussion of "hot rockspots" comes up. But if the sophomore
effort from Orange Sky, DAT IZ VOODOO, is a representation of the
local talent, it may soon join the likes of New York, Seattle, and
London. Comprised of singer/lead guitarist Nigel Rojas, rhythm
guitarist Joel Beazer, bassist Nicholas Rojas, keyboardist Richard
Hall, and drummer Obasi Springer, the style that Orange Sky specialize
in is quite varied...yet rocking.
Perhaps a fan once gave the group the highest compliment, by gushing,
"You guys sound and perform like if the Wailers and Black Sabbath had
a baby."
"I call our sound 'rock and roll,'" says Nigel. "We emulate everything
-- hard rock, soft rock, punk, reggae, and metal, so I think the term
rock and roll covers all these styles, and does not create an
expectation from the potential listener of us being too metal, too
reggae, too hard, or too soft. Our overall style offers all these
soundscapes, colors, and emotions."
DAT IZ VOODOO, released via StarCity Records, represents a rebirth of
sorts for Orange Sky, and proves that the group's critically acclaimed
debut, 2006's UPSTAIRS, was no fluke. Case in point, the album-opening
riff monger "Yesterdays And Tomorrows," the thrashy "Psycho World,"
the industrial-strength reggae-rock of "Is There Anybody There?"
(which is a barely recognizable cover of a Scorpions song), and the
crunching funk-metal riffs of "Dark Room."
A dozen songs in all, guaranteed to get fists pumping and moshpits
swirling -- with a couple of lighters-in-the-air/arm-around-your-girl
moments in between.
And while DAT IZ VOODOO is a fine stylistic showcase for the group,
the quintet promises fans that they will take it to the next level on
the album's ensuing tour.
"Orange Sky live is one hell of a bad ass, fist pumping, heart
melting, hilarious, thought provoking assault on the nervous system!
Within an hour, our show will turn everyone exposed to us into our new
friends and future Orange Sky seed sowers.
"Sounds arrogant? Not intended, just what we know what we are capable
of -- ask anyone who has been there. We seriously rock!"

-Crown The Lost Update
Almost three years removed from their debut album REVERENCE DIES
WITHIN, melodic thrash metallers Crown The Lost return with their
second full-length, BLIND FAITH LOYALTY. The culmination of over a
year's worth of intense songwriting, band turnover and turmoil, and
unbridled creativity, BLIND FAITH LOYALTY sees CTL expand upon its
melodic thrash metal template, adding new, exotic layers of extremity,
grace, and technicality.
Formed in April of 2005, Crown The Lost is lauded as "musically
accomplished and eminently memorable" and "one of thrash metal's
outstanding new groups," and has since steadily built a devoted
following through relentless promotion and word of mouth. The band
will spend the bulk of 2009 in support of their new album with a slew
of national and with any luck, international dates.
4/04/2009 The Rex Theatre - Pittsburgh, PA w/ Exodus
4/17/2009 The Fallout Shelter - Alliquippa, PA

"What you get is locomotive-powered, yet tasteful, musicality that
meets somewhere between modern thrash and In Flames/At The Gates melo-
death propulsion with a proggy air, the sheer strength and
melodiousness of Chris Renaldi's singing, and songwriting that
demonstrates care and effort." - Blabbermouth

chops, fluid thrash, tons of melody and mostly clean singing in a
single composition." - Metal Reviews

This tongue-in-cheek, JJ Connelly horror fest features a willing cast
of New York underground and avant guard music and fetish performers,
including Flambeaux, Eve Blackwater, and Fuse's Mistress Juliya.
When Catholic Priest and Inquisitor Nicholas Dread finds out that

own kingdom someday at any cost.
Now, in 21st century New York City, Dread has returned to finish the

will die so Dread can take the throne in his kingdom of over one
hundred thousand corrupt souls. He just has to find the right bunch of
victims...and it just so happens the best Goth Club in the city is
ripe for this bloodthirsty butcher bent on revenge!

real thing arrives?

BIOS AND QUOTES
DVD artist Mike Hrubovcak bio and quote:
Based out of the Philadelphia / N.Y.C. area, Mike Hrubovcak has been
heavily involved in the Metal scene both musically and artistically
since 1992.
His artwork has graced many a Death Metal album cover and he has
worked with a multitude of Bands, Record Labels and Magazines
worldwide -- such as Century Media, Metal Blade and Relapse Records,
Revolver and S.O.D. Magazines; and the bands Mortician, Grave,
Sinister, Cattle Decapitation, Avulsed and many more.
Besides spending time illustrating album covers, Mike is the Vocalist
for the Monstrosity, Vile and others.
Mike says about his first foray into the horror DVD market:
"Working on 'Gothkill' was Satanically refreshing and fun"
"Gothkill" director JJ Connelly bio and quote:
First time writer/ Director JJ Connelly has spent years working behind
the scenes, and his technical experiences run the gamut from
underground art films to mainstream blockbusters. He has also spent
years working on Broadway, in television, live rock shows, and even in
opera. It was during this time that James met many of the cast of
"Gothkill."
JJ wrote prose, poetry and short stories before he started writing for
the screen, and prefers to write escapist material. Although serious
subjects are often touched upon, his aim is to entertain. Look for
more exploitation material in the future.
JJ says about his first time at bat in the horror realm:
"Everything that could have gone wrong did go wrong during production
of this movie, and yet, I got exactly what I set out to create. A
campy, B-grade midnight movie that's fun to watch."
"Gothkill" star Mistress Julyia ("Devil Girl")
Juliya Chernetsky, AKA Mistress Juylia, is a television personality
best known for her stint on the music-themed network Fuse, formerly
known as MuchMusicUSA. She hosted the heavy metal-themed program
"Uranium" and a call-in and e-mail advice program called "Slave To The
Metal," for which Sirius Radio recently signed her to do a radio
version. She currently hosts several online programs.
After over two years of being absent from Fuse, Juliya announced via
MySpace her return to Fuse to do a weekly hard rock/metal countdown
show. She also appeared on "The Weekly Riff," a panel show hosted by
Steven Smith. On September 22, 2008 she replaced Sami Jarroush as the
host of "No. 1 Countdown Rock."
Juliya and JJ Connelly became friends during her early days at Fuse.
JJ was on the Fuse lighting crew at the time. Juliya appears in
several scenes throughout "Gothkill," which are a must-see for her
legion of loyal fans.
Flambeaux ("Nick Dread")
Scottish-born fire breathing performance artist Flambeaux believes he
has at least one thing in common with his character Nick Dread. Both
were burned at the stake during the middle ages. At least, that's one
of the reasons he credits his life long fascination with fire with,
and for taking the lead role in "Gothkill."
Long before his recent stint as a contestant on "America's Got
Talent," Flambeaux has been doing fire shows and making exotic
costumes to go with his performances for most of his adult life. He
started out doing street performances in Ireland and Scotland. Since
then, he's done elaborate fire shows at star-studded events from Las
Vegas to Europe.
Flambeaux has also had a recurring role on the TV show "Mission
Fashion," wrote and directed his own Off Broadway show "World Of The P
Cult," and has also appeared on David Letterman.

Fifteen years after Kurt Cobain's suicide on April 5th, 1994, comes
the authoritative story of grunge. "Grunge Is Dead: The Oral History
Of Seattle Rock Music" (released April 1, 2009, via ECW Press) by Greg
Prato is the definitive story of the Pacific Northwest music scene of
the late '80s and early '90s. Never before has a book attempted to
examine the scene as a whole. Pearl Jam bassist Jeff Ament says,
"Finally, a book about the early years of our little scene in Seattle.
I can't wait to hear all the different perspectives from the people
that were actually there, not the so-called experts, who didn't show
up until the '90s."
Prato will sign copies of his new book at The Book Revue in
Huntington, NY on Wednesday, April 8 at 7 p.m. (313 New York Ave), and
also at Easy Street Records & Cafe in West Seattle on Saturday, April
25 at 6 p.m. (4559 California Ave SW). These events are free and open
to public (for more information, visit http://www.bookrevue.com/ and

Taking the form of an oral history, Prato's tome contains over 130
original interviews conducted for the book over a three-year period.
No outside interviews are included and most of the interviews are
published here for the first time. Some of the original interviews
include:
Eddie Vedder, Pearl Jam singer
Jeff Ament, Pearl Jam/Mother Love Bone bassist
Kim Thayil, Soundgarden guitarist
Susan Silver, Soundgarden/Alice in Chains' manager, ex-wife of Chris
Cornell
Duff McKagan, Guns N' Roses bassist

Staley
Mark Arm, Mudhoney singer
Chad Channing, Nirvana drummer
Jack Endino, producer Nirvana/Soundgarden/Mudhoney
Charles Peterson, photographer
Bruce Pavitt & Jonathan Poneman, founders Sub Pop Records
"Grunge Is Dead" begins with a retrospective of the '60s and '70s that
explains the rise of the Seattle music scene. Additionally, a large
number of previously unpublished photographs appear in color and black
and white throughout the book. The result is the complete first-hand
history of grunge. "Grunge Is Dead" will allow rock fans to discover a
unique chapter in music history, through the experiences of the people
who were actually there.
Greg Prato is a Long Island, New York-based journalist whose writing
has appeared in All Music Guide, Classic Rock Magazine, and Goldmine
Magazine, and is the author of the books "A Devil On One Shoulder And
An Angel On The Other: The Story Of Shannon Hoon And Blind Melon" and

-Viking Skull Video Premiere
Powerage Records in cooperation with popular metal news site Deciblog
( http://www.decibelmagazine.com/blog ) today unveil the new video
from England's Viking Skull. The clip for "Hair Of The Dog" was filmed
just after the band's U.S. shows with Clutch this past Christmas
season. It was filmed at The Note and various locations in and around
the Westchester area where director Bam Margera lives. The song comes
from the band's latest album, DOOM GLOOM HEARTACHE & WHISKEY,
available now on Powerage Rock/Candlelight.
Released November 25, DOOM GLOOM HEARTACHE & WHISKEY is the band's
first album with proper U.S. distribution and promotion. In an
interview conducted with radio tip sheet FMQB late in 2008 drummer
Jess Margera said, "this record is the epitome of every good rock band
smashed into one." As the lone American in the band, Margera remembers
his initial introduction to the 'Skull. "I think five years ago was
the first time I heard Viking Skull get played on the jukebox at the
Crobar in London. The whole place went insane. It was kind of like
when I was a kid hearing BACK IN BLACK for the first time. I bought
everyone there a shot of Makers mark and a beer."
With limited support and resources, Viking Skull have single-handedly
created their own early opportunities. Independently recording their
first release for a whopping $500, their 2003 mini-album titled
CHAPTER ONE remains the only album to score 11 out of 10 in England's
Metal Hammer. The band's full-length debut, BORN IN HELL, was released
in 2005. While finding limited stateside exposure, in Europe the band
continued to build on a growing fanbase and profile. Tours with Clutch
and cKy would see them through the year setting up the recording of
their second album. CHAPTER TWO would be released in early 2007 and
featured guest appearances from members of Fireball Ministry. It would
also feature the first contributions from Margera (also a member of
cKy and stoner super-group The Company Band).
Viking Skull is vocalist/founder Roddy Stone, bassist Waldie,
guitarists Dom and Brandywine Eel, and drummer Jess Margera.

-Pestilence Is Back: RESURRECTION MACABRE To Release April 9th, 2009
On Mascot Records U.S.A.
HOLLYWOOD, CA -- Pestilence returns after 15 years of deathlike
silence to release the brand new studio album RESURRECTION MACABRE.
It's a stunning musical statement that will bring the band back to the
forefront of the international death metal community. The album is a
display of the timeless power of brutal death metal with modern day
technique and skill of experienced musicians.
The brand new album was recorded in Denmark, with producer Jacob
Hansen. The new incarnation of Pestilence consists of original band
member Patrick Mameli, the American bass wizard Tony Choy (Atheist,
Cynic, a.o.) and powerhouse drummer Peter Wildoer (Arch Enemy,
Darkane, a.o.). Guitar player Patrick Uterwijk will join the band for
the live shows.
"When so many people asked to resurrect Pestilence it got me
thinking," explains Patrick Mameli. "For many years it was a closed
chapter. I have always been very clear about that. The last couple of
years I discovered, to my amazement, that the band had not been
forgotten, but still meant a lot to many fans. So there were a few
things that got the ball rolling. First of all the fans. I also
noticed that old school death metal was making a comeback. It did whet
my appetite. I discovered that I felt the urge to get involved again
with the great musical tradition that is death metal. I wanted to
leave my own mark again. Another important factor was that I knew that
with Tony Choy and Peter Wildoer by my side I had found the right
people to make this dream come true. These guys are both absolutely
stunning musicians. Simply the best one could wish for. Their creative
input on the album is invaluable."
The result of many months of hard work is aptly titled RESURRECTION
MACABRE. The new album has everything to offer that a fan of
Pestilence -- old and new -- possibly could wish for. And more. It has
the dark atmosphere, brutal vocals, sheer power and technical skills
-- always the trademarks of Pestilence. Patrick Mameli stresses that
his band is not going to take the easy ride of nostalgia. "I don't
want to rely on successes of the past. This is not a reunion, but a
second life for Pestilence. That's why we wanted to mark our comeback
with a new studio album. Stylistically it goes back to the days of
CONSUMING IMPULSE and TESTIMONY OF THE ANCIENTS, but it's also
apparent that time did not stand still. I am a better musician than a
was back then. Compared to the old days the technical possibilities
are limitless."
Another link to the glory days of the past are the three old
Pestilence songs that get a new life on the new album: "Chemo
Therapy," "Out Of The Body" and "Lost Souls," all coming from the
first two Pestilence albums. "It seemed like a good idea to connect
ourselves to our musical past. Apart from that I liked the idea of
revisiting those old songs and to see what they would sound like when
performed and recorded in this advanced day and age."
Following the release of RESURRECTION MACABRE Pestilence will support
the album old heavy metal style: by hitting the road for a still
growing number of gigs worldwide. The first responses of fans,
promoters and media are overwhelming and unanimous: Pestilence are
back!

-Gorgoroth Trademark Verdict Reached
Oslo City District Court has delivered a verdict on the main question
in the Gorgoroth trademark case, which took place at the end of
January 2009. The court has decided that King Ov Hell's trademark
registration #243365 of the band name Gorgoroth is NOT valid and shall
therefore be deleted. The court states that King Ov Hell and Gaahl
excluded themselves from the band Gorgoroth when they tried to fire
Infernus in October 2007. The court further states that Infernus
cannot be excluded from Gorgoroth, unless he himself decides to quit.
Infernus is very pleased, but not surprised, by this verdict. The
remaining issues concerning financial matters and such are yet to be
decided upon.
Blabbermouth.net has received the following statement from bassist Tom
Cato Visnes and vocalist Kristian Espedal regarding the latest
developments in their legal dispute with guitarist Infernus over the
rights to the Gorgoroth band name: "Regarding the recent court case
over the use of the name Gorgoroth, Kristian Espedal and Tom Cato
Visnes confirm that parts of the verdict have been decided and went in
favour of Infernus. This is only a partial verdict on the case.
Because of the complexity of this case, there will be further court
hearings and the final verdict will be announced within a few weeks."
"Gaahl and King wish Infernus the best of luck using the banner of
Gorgoroth on his art."

-A recent issue of "Pilgrims Of Sabbocracy," the newsletter from
Black-Sabbath.com, had a bit where main man Joe Siegler talked about
the old "Stars" video. (For all you youngsters out there, Ronnie James
Dio assembled a huge metal all-star project called Hear 'N Aid back in
1986, and there was a charity album and single released.) Seems he ran
across the video on VH1 Classic and wondered if the mailing address
shown at the end was still valid. He must be a powerful man because he
simply asked Wendy Dio about it. :) She informed him that if anyone
would still like to donate, they should contribute to Children Of The
Night. Ronnie has been involved with this charity for a long time; it
"benefits abused children and fights against street prostitution. See
http://www.childrenofthenight.org/ for more.
-HeadbangerNYC.com reported a new VH1 "Rock Doc" entitled "Do It For
The Band: The Women Of The Sunset Strip" will premiere April 3 on VH1
(11 p.m.) and April 4 on Vh1 Classic (10 p.m.). Hype: "[The show]
tells the story of the mistresses of metal, Narrated by former 'Cherry
Pie' video girl Bobbie Brown -- the women who played a big part in the
L.A. rock scene. These are the girls who sacrificed for the band --
they clothed, washed, fed, housed, and loved rock stars like Tommy
Lee, Nikki Sixx, Slash, Axl Rose, Blackie Lawless, Jani Lane and many
others. Viewers will get a first hand look at what it was like to live
life in the fast lane as the women reveal secrets and share stories."
-So I just heard Elvenking's cover of Belinda Carlisle's "Heaven Is A
Place On Earth." Yes, it's true. An Italian band that sings about
elves has covered an old pop song. (I bet the band members are about
my age and remember the dreamy video for Carlisle's song... <sigh>)
Anyway, last night I heard A Flock Of Seagulls' "I Ran" on some '80s
radio station. I think a metal band should cover that song. Seriously.
It would rock.
-Did you all read the Gorgorth press release above? Am I to understand
a gentleman who calls himself King Ov Hell was in court? Did he swear
on a Bible? I picture the old "Saturday Night Live" skit where Jon
Lovitz portrayed the devil on "People's Court." The judge tried to
calm him down by banging his gavel and saying "Mr. Mephistopheles,
please!"
-Regarding the Iron Maidens, besides Unholy Pink mentioned above there
is another side project featuring a couple of the Maidens: The Little
Dolls. This group plays Ozzy, Sabbath, and other metal covers. See
http://www.thelittledolls.com/ for more.
-In my current playlist: Doro - FEAR NO EVIL (AFM Records), Crown The
Lost - BLIND FAITH LOYALTY (Cruz Del Sur Music), Eighteen Wheels
Burning - TWEAK'D OUT, STRUNG UP & REDLINED (MeteorCity), Edenbridge -
MYEARTHDREAM (Napalm Records).

LES CLAYPOOL - OF FUNGI AND FOE (B-/C+) Prawn Song Records, 2009

Bizarre, odd, off-the-wall -- these are some of the adjectives one
could use to describe the music of Les Claypool. I suspect there are
generally two camps when it comes to Les, those who think he is a
genius and those who find his material virtually unlistenable. I guess
I fall somewhere in the middle though, as I always had a soft spot for
Primus, finding their peculiar brand of very alternative rock
curiously engaging. OF FUNGI AND FOE is Les' second solo album and
maintains the offbeat quality of Primus while deviating from the hard
rock element often found in their work. Honestly, it is likely going
to be a difficult listen for those not acclimated to Les' avant-garde
approach, as this stuff is anything but conventional. Check out
"Amanitas" or "Kazoo" for a taste of what's on offer here, as those
tracks provide a pretty good representation. Les likes to incorporate
some strange sounds in his compositions, courtesy of a multitude of
bass guitar variations and instruments such as the penny whistle and
vibraphone. In addition to the unusual structure of the music, Les
utilizes a spoken word style of singing that suits the storytelling
aspect of the songs but can be hard to take after awhile. Indeed, by
the time you get through "What Would Sir George Martin Do" you might
get the feeling of a bit too much repetition. I wish the album had
featured more along the lines of "Primed By 29," a hilarious piece
where all the best aspects of Les' style come together. Relentless in
its weirdness, this is one I can only take in doses but will surely
find an audience with those wanting to stray off the beaten path, as I
can quite confidently say there is nothing else similar making the
rounds these days...

SACRED OATH (A) Angel Thorn, 2009

Somehow I missed out on Sacred Oath back in the day, the band
originating in Connecticut circa 1985. 1987's A CRYSTAL VISION is now
hailed as something of a lost classic, the group calling it a day in
1988 before reforming for another go in 2005. Now consisting of
original members Rob Thorne (vocals, guitar) and Kenny Evans (drums)
along with recent additions Bill Smith (guitar) and Scott Waite
(bass), the band are ready for a second lease on life with their new
self-titled release. Sacred Oath play adept power metal in the style
of Lizzy Borden, Crimson Glory and Armored Saint, unleashing dark,
thoroughly vintage sounding epics such as "Voodoo Dolls," "Counting
Zeros," "Order Of The System Lords," and "What The Dark Will Undo."
Rob Thorne's stratospheric vocals are a high point, often reminiscent
of early Geoff Tate, King Diamond and the aforementioned Lizzy Borden.
Everything else you want and expect is here, however, including
galloping rhythms, dual leads and mystical lyrics all delivered via a
crisp production. One of the best things I've heard so far this year,
let me highly recommend SACRED OATH to you, and hope the guys stick
around this time...
