-Machines Of Grace Set To Unleash Self-Titled Debut on July 7th Via
iTunes And Other Retailers
Enter To Win $100.00 iTunes Gift Card, Signed Drum Head And Hooded
Sweatshirts Via MachinesOfGrace.net Contest
Paying tribute to their metal forefathers while also keeping a modern
hard rock edge, the Boston-based quartet, Machines Of Grace, is one of
the few currents acts that will appeal to both factions. Their self-
titled debut, which will be released digitally on July 7th, certainly
proves this, as evidenced by such white hot/melodic rockers as "Just A
Game," "Psychotic," and "Fly Away."
Comprised of band members Zak Stevens (vocals, whose credits include
Circle II Circle, Savatage), Matt Leff (guitars), Chris Rapoza (bass),
and Jeff Plate (drums, whose credits include Trans-Siberian Orchestra,
Savatage, Metal Church), the album was mixed by renowned studio expert
Paul David Hagar (who has worked over the years with acts such as the
Goo Goo Dolls, Avril Lavigne, Pink, and Tracy Bonham).
The band is offering fans a contest via their site, in which one grand
prize winner will get a $100 iTunes gift card, a drum head signed by
Jeff Plate, and a Machines Of Grace hooded sweatshirt, while three
runner up winners will receive a $25 iTunes gift card. All fans that
sign up for the group's newsletter via their site will receive a 20%
off coupon code for pre-ordering the album. For more info on the

.
"I'd say we're a mix of melodic metal, hard rock, modern rock and
acoustic rock," explains Leff. "The current rock climate is calling
for modern production, strong vocal melodies and memorable songs from
guys that can really play. I think we fit that description." Plate
tops off the sentiment: "The music is metal, but not thrash. Rock, but
not pop. We could be compared to a number of different bands, and each
song will give you a different impression, but in the end the sound is
distinctly Machines Of Grace." Reflecting the band's words,
BraveWords.com recently described Machines Of Grace as "A throwback to
a simpler time when the almighty riff and strong melody lines ruled
ala Badlands, Brother Cane and Tangier; raucous, groove-ridden soul to
the max."

-SMG Presents Headless Cross Tour 2009
[Note: This is from Shakers Management Group's MySpace blog, at
http://blogs.myspace.com/shakersmgmtgroup . - Tim]
Shakers Management Group (SMG) is proud to be handling the United
States Headless Cross Tour for the summer of 2009. The idea for the
tour came from Tony Martin (the 10 year voice of Black Sabbath '87-
'97) when he realized that 2009 was the 20th anniversary of the
HEADLESS CROSS album. He immediately called Geoff Nichols, the 25-year
veteran keys guru for Black Sabbath, who contacted Shakers Management
Group, and the rest is history.
The band is actually the Tony Martin Band touring as "Headless Cross,"
to celebrate the anniversary.
It was very unfortunate that back in 1989, the HEADLESS CROSS tour
only performed a few dates in the U.S.A. A poll was done and, not
surprisingly, Black Sabbath fans overwhelmingly voiced their support
for this tour. So for the second time ever, the HEADLESS CROSS album
will be performed on the U.S. stage, along with a few tracks off the
ETERNAL IDOL album, and the crowd may even be blessed with a couple
originals off Tony Martin's SCREAM album.
After much discussion, it was agreed to perform in much smaller 750 to
1,500 seat venues to give their fans an up-close-and-personal
experience, thereby giving this 20th anniversary performance true
value.

-The Poodles Sign European Deal With Blistering Records
Blistering Records is proud to announce the signing of Swedish hard
rockers The Poodles for the European territory.
Founded in late 2005 things moved rapidly for The Poodles with the
band entering the Swedish leg of the Eurovision Song Contest which led
to the big breakthrough in their native country.
The debut album, METAL WILL STAND TALL, climbed to the top of the
Swedish charts. The first single, "Night Of Passion," went gold after
only three weeks and platinum not long after. The band played over 100
shows in Sweden before heading out on a European tour with HammerFall
and Krokus that took them through 31 dates and 18 countries.
The sophomore album SWEET TRADE was released in late 2007 with the
second single "Streets Of Fire" becoming the band's biggest seller to
date by going double platinum.
Shortly after The Poodles headed out on yet another tour around
Europe, this time with Swiss hard rockers Gotthard. This was followed
by their own headline tour in the spring of 2008 with 17 sold-out
shows throughout Europe. 2008 also saw The Poodles participate a
second time in the Swedish Eurovision Song Contest plus getting the
honor of performing the official Swedish theme song for the Olympic
Games in Beijing, China.
On CLASH OF THE ELEMENTS the band has worked with some of the giants
in the music industry -- including legendary producer/engineer Mike
Fraser (Aerosmith, AC/DC, Led Zeppelin, Whitesnake). The band is
currently on a tour that will take them all over Sweden until the end
of August with a full-scale European tour to follow later in the year.
The album will be released in Europe on August 28th by Blistering
Records with promotional preparations already in full spin.
Make no mistake! The Poodles are shooting for the stars with this one!

-Exodus Guitarist Gary Holt: "Next Album Will Blow People's Minds"
The German edition of Metal Hammer magazine conducted an interview
with guitarist Gary Holt of San Francisco Bay Area thrashers Exodus at
this year's installment of the Graspop Metal Meeting, which was held
on June 26-28, 2009 on the festival grounds of the Boeretang in
Dessel, Belgium.
When asked about Exodus' plans for a new studio album, Holt said,
"Hopefully we're hitting the studio around November 1 with Mr. Sneap
[British producer Andy Sneap; Megadeth, Nevermore, Arch Enemy]. It's
gonna be sick. We have four [songs] recorded [and left over] from the
last session [for 2007's THE ATROCITY EXHIBITION... EXHIBIT A], and
I've got, like, nine [other tracks] I'm working on, and Lee [Altus,
guitar] has a bunch of stuff. But this next album is gonna blow
people's minds."
Regarding the upcoming CD's musical direction, Holt said, "There's a
couple of twists on this. I try not to repeat every album. I mean, we
did TEMPO OF THE DAMNED [2004], [which was] a little more old-school,
and we did SHOVEL HEADED KILL MACHINE [2005], which was really brutal
and fast, and then THE ATROCITY EXHIBITION... EXHIBIT A [2007],
[which] was, like, longer and more epic songs. So this album's gonna
have some different stuff to it. Maybe a little more dual-guitar
stuff, 'cause I've been playing with Lee for quite awhile now -- a
little more dual-guitar harmony shred stuff."

-Two Side Moon/SLW Promotions Update: Emergency Gate, Loch Vostok,
Mely, & Shenaniganz
Please find below the press info for our excellent new releases from
Emergency Gate, Loch Vostok, Mely and Shenaniganz courstey of
Silverwolf Productions/Nightmare Records.
Band: Emergency Gate
Album Title: REWAKE
Label: Silverwolf Productions/Nightmare
Genre: Melodic Death Metal
Release Date: Out Now!!
Web sites:
http://www.emergency-gate.de/
http://www.myspace.com/emergencygateonline
In 2005 the name Emergency Gate was heard for the first time.
Not long after that the young band, with high musical potential,
produced their first professional album NIGHTLY RAY together with
Spike Streefkerk (Mellissa Etheridge, Def Leppard, Phil Collins etc.).
Metal Heart Magazine titled even the rough mix itself as "Album of the
month." That way no less label than TEC/Universal became attentive to
Emergency Gate, got in touch with them and took them under contract.
At first NIGHTLY RAY has been released in the middle of 2006 in
Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Benelux and the U.S.A. And it was
possible for the five musicians to climb the top of the heavy radio
charts in Benelux for one time!
Certainly, short after the release of NIGHTLY RAY, drummer Stefan
Paster left the band. However the missing piece of that puzzle was
soon replaced by ex-Stormhammer drummer Chris "the machine" Widmann.
Soon after that, Emergency Gate went on tour with the Danish combo
Mercenary and closed endorsement contracts among others with names
like: Ernie Ball, SAD, Schecter Guitar Research and Agner Drumsticks.
At the end of 2007, the band received a call from their label, in
which they let them know, it won't be possible for TEC to release with
Universal anymore and therefore the band is free from their contract.
After really good cooperation with this label, it was really a hard
hit for Emergency Gate.
Founder member, singer and guitarist Fabian "Cem" Kießling also quit
because of private matters. Now it was unclear, how the band should go
on.
The remaining musicians broke their heads by thinking about a
resolution of this situation. It was obvious, every member was more
than crazy about reaching new horizons and to create something new and
different. Guitarist Vlad worked madly, day and night, on new material
in agreement with Mario. Even without a singer and without knowing how
everything will go on, the band booked time in Munich's Dreamscape
Studios, to record and work on new material.
Almost by completing the instrumental part, Mario went as a FOH-
Engineer of the supports for the Symphony X PARADISE LOST tour on the
road. This way it happened on the second tour day in Cologne: Mario
met Matthias Kupka (ex Suidakra). Right in the first moment it was
absolutely clear, the last missing piece needed to create something
very magnificent, so important for the rising of the band, was found!
The final recordings with Matthias started even in the beginning of
March 2008.
Not long after searching for a new label, the band chose a young
upcoming one, Silverwolf Productions, to make their newest Masterpiece
REWAKE public. The self-made studio video was well received by their
fans, with so much enthusiasm, wich will be the reason thousands of
viewes on YouTube.
Last but not least, Emergency Gate went along with Kreator on their
2009 tour, starting the same day as their new album REWAKE was
released.
Remains to say:
Emergency Gate is back! With new sound and a new band!

Band: Loch Vostok
Album Title: REVEAL NO SECRETS
Label: Silverwolf Productions/Nightmare
Genre: Melodic Death Metal
Release Date: Out Now!!

http://www.lochvostok.com/
http://www.myspace.com/lochvostok
Loch Vostok rose out of the collapse of Progressive Metal band
Mayadome in 2001. After 10 years Drummer Teddy Moeller was tired of
the cheeze and decided to start something more meaty -- Loch Vostok
was born. Three core members, Mayadome founder Teddy Moeller,
Keyboardist Sebastian Okupski and Bass Player Erik Grandin set about
formulating a new act. Moeller would switch from his erstwhile role as
a drummer to that of lead vocalist/guitarist and with the
incorporation of former Ramrod, 5 Steps Ahead and El Presidente
guitarist Niklas Kupper alongside ex-Azotic Reign, 5 Steps Ahead, El
Presidente and Imperial Domain drummer Alvaro Torres the band was
complete. However, Grandin was to relocate to the U.S.A. and so former
Mellow Poetry guitarist Tomas "Tym" Jonsson stepped in to fill the
bass vacancy.
Utilising producer Daniel Bergstrand, Loch Vostok cut a self-financed
album DARK LOGIC entirely based upon infamous serial killers such as
Henry Lee Lucas, Andreij Tzjikatilo and Ed Gein. The first label to
pick up the album for distribution would be the Russian concern CD-
Maximum. Shortly after the Russian release, Portugese label Magnetism
Records contracted Loch Vostok, and released DARK LOGIC worldwide
August 1st 2004.
Sebastian Okupski decided to focus on his cover band Bulldog, so Loch
Vostok decided to find another keyboardist for the band. Andreas
Lindahl from fellow Swedish metal act Platitude offered his services.
He played some live shows and recorded the new album with Loch Vostok
but then decided to leave because of the distance between Gothenburg,
where he lives, and Uppsala where the other guys live and rehearse.
Loch Vostok is a real band, not just another project, so they had
every intention of finding a real full-time member, who was also
willing to take part in the whole songwriting process. Anima Morte
keyboardist/composer Fredrik Klingwall had been a friend of Teddy and
Niklas for quite a while. They already got along real well, and
Fredrik was asked to join Loch Vostok.
In early 2006, the band signed with Swedish record label Escapi Music
for the worldwide release of DESTRUCTION TIME AGAIN! -- their second
and more mature disc. After the fantastic reviews started coming in,
the band went on tour with King Diamond and Secret Sphere all around
Scandinavia for two weeks in April 2006, followed by another tour in
Denmark with Pyramaze in June same year.
During 2007 and 2008 the band played a lot of shows in Scandinavia
(including a show aboard the Tattoo Boat -- a tattoo convention/
festival on a cruise ship between Sweden and Finland), as well as
working really hard on their third full-length album, REVEAL NO
SECRETS. By early 2009 the album was ready; produced, recorded, mixed
and edited by the band themselves and mastered by Lawrence Mackrory at
Great Scot! Audio. The album features guest appearances by Per Nilson
(Scar Symmetry), Erik EZ Blomkvist (Platitude) and Tina Gunnarsson
(ex-Mellow Poetry). After the collapse of Escapi Music another
worldwide deal has been signed with U.S. based label Nightmare
Records.
Loch Vostok will create chills down your spine when the day comes for
you to be engulfed by their fantastic music ... and that day is now,
'cause here is REVEAL NO SECRETS.
Track listing:
1. Loss Of Liberty
2. Energy Taboo
3. Dig Deeper
4. Uncompassion
5. Thirty Years
6. Raiders Of The Lost Heart
7. Blindfolds Off
8. What Once Was

Band: Mely
Album Title: PORTRAIT OF A PORCELAIN DOLL
Label: Silverwolf Productions/Nightmare
Genre: Gothic Rock/Metal
Release Date: Out Now!!
Web sites:
http://www.mely.at/
http://www.myspace.com/melymyspace
In 1999 the common passion of creating music lead the Carinthian
(Austria) members of Mely together.
The name which derives from melancholy has been program form the
beginning which doesn't mean that Mely don't know how to rock. It
rather means that the five Austrians don't spent much time on
scratching the surface but engage with Dark Metal out of deeper
regions with high recognize worth.
After intensive rehearsing and some gigs the first Longplayer THERE
ARE DAYS... was still recorded in the founding year. On it you can
find nine dynamic and emotional deep under the skin going titles which
brought Mely lots of great resonance and the status of being more than
just another underground band.
In 2003 Mely released their second studio album ...REEL THROUGH MY
WAVE. The ten tracks represent an atmospheric and melodic enhancement
in Mely's development as musicians. Again Mely collected lots of great
reviews an even more international attention according to their live
appearances. Whether as support for e.g. Ektomorf, Anathema,
Moonsorrow, Leaves' Eyes, Swallow The Sun, Graveworm, Emil Bulls, the
finals of the "Austrian Band Contest" or on the main stage of the
"Metalcamp 2006" (Opeth, My Dying Bride, Dimmu Borgir, etc.), Mely
showed what they are able to give and the fans loved it. In general
however Mely are insatiable for feeling the energy between them and
their audience and love to live music.
Naturally in meantime the band rasped with heart blood and sweat on
new songs. Enhancement in all concerns where thereby supreme law. With
the new material recorded in May 2007 the band could gain their first
record deal and their third album ...LEAVE AND ENTER EMPTY ROOMS... to
be released in Nov. 2007. Again the resonances were pretty good which
brought 'em a first European tour in April 2008 with Xandria and
Stoneman.
After this pretty well done tour -- sad but true -- Helmut decided to
leave the band due to personal reasons. A bit shocked bout his
decision, but well knowing that the show must go on, Mely decided to
look for a new drummer and set the next step by recording a follow-up
to ...LEAVE AND ENTER EMPTY ROOMS... In September Mely announced
Hannes Ganeider to be their new drummer and now they are ready to rock
with a new album to be released in spring 2009.
Track listing:
1. Of Doubts And Fears
2. Grown For Doom
3. Bricks Against Porcelain Dolls
4. Don't Wake The Sleeping Dog
5. Hell Low
6. It Is Cold Without Shoes
7. Maybe Yesterday
8. Sweet Six Feet
9. My Addiction
Band: Shenaniganz
Album Title: OPEN YOUR EYES OR COVER YOUR HEAD
Label: Silverwolf Productions/Nightmare
Genre: Modern Hard Rock
Release Date: Out Now!!
Web sites:

http://www.myspace.com/badassrocknroll
Unrestrained, uncompromised, raw, fun, upbeat, no rules rock,
combining the rock sensibilties and attitude of Buckcherry with the
attitude and technical abilities of the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
Put your furniture in the garage, mask all sharp edges and bring the
dog to the neighbours! This band has knocked every head and shook
every hip yet! Shenaniganz let the '70s rock heroes sound in a newer
way. The underground sensation thrills a wide audience range. The
barely bold rockheads get hair to their shoulders again... The young
and the young at heart love their energetic attitude! Their sound is
described best with the words of their song "We Are The Underground":
Drum kit hits you like a fist in your mouth! Guitar strings, ringing
like they'd never let you down! Bass so fat it makes you squat on the
ground! F**k all the mainstream -- We are the underground.
That's how you imagine rock 'n' roll, that's the way it has to be and
this is how the insider tip converts numerous concert-goers. With an
unbelievable presence on stage and an apparently never-ending stamina
the Shenaniganz rock it like AC/DC, Led Zeppelin and Jet but can't
basically be compared.
From catchy hook lines over refrains to scream along or unexpected
brakes and fast speed changes to melody-loaded guitar parts and guitar
solos comes everything what the listenes can ask for.
WHO DO WE THINK WE ARE
Shenaniganz is the name of the Bavarian musicians in Haag in upper
Bavaria. Their style is a mixture of Rock 'n' Roll, Garage and Punk.
Since 2004 they've been playing together. Their members are Georg Raig
(Singer, Guitar), Daniel Rehbein (Singer, Guitar), Tobay Reich (Bass)
and Dom Rehbein (Drums). Influences of the band are Rolling Stones,
Ramones or Led Zeppelin.
FIRST STEPS
The first steps were made by Daniel and one of his friends. Georg und
Dom knew each other from school. At this time Georg had nothing to do
with music. Although Dom and Georg really didn't like each other, Dom
invited Georg to his birthday Party. On this party he met Dom's
brother Daniel for the first time. Daniel who had already sold his
soul to music had, of course, a guitar in his room of which Georg was
immediately infected. Daniel invited him to a jam session with his
first band No Smoking. The first song was written and the Shenaniganz
were born. At this time songs like "Pin-Up Girl," "My Live" and
"Hangin With The Boys," which is on the current album, were written,
too. The band decided against practising the songs often in the band
room... they wanted to get on stage as soon as they could. This is
probably one of the reasons which they made them to an extraordinary
live band. They urgently needed a new drummer because a new gig was
planned two weeks after that. Well, they took the shortest way and
asked Dom if he would play, and learn the songs within two weeks. He
agreed, and since them he's an important member of the band. Tobay,
the basstard, was found barely a year after that and so the
Shenaniganz had been completed. Four friends as different as they can
be, connected with one mind.
KICK OUT THE JAMS
In autumn 2005, one year after, they found out of the German band
contest school jam for which they applied themselves with their songs
"Carolina" and "25 Years Ago" which were completed only one week
before. In general all songs have been tested on stage and not in the
cellar. This is probably one reason for them being known as an
extraordinary live band. Shenaniganz had been built from jamming and
playing. This old tradition is adhered by them since the beginning.
Daniel and Tobay for example are playing in co-projects, Dom enjoys
his school band and Daniel and Georg were jamming with the krautrock
legend Amon Düül II. School jam began and they were ready to rock.
Daniel said in an interview: "...the main sense of contests like this
one is not to fight against other bands but to judge yourself as a
band." Well, they've been judged... to be the best school band of
Germany for 2006.
LIFESTYLE OF THE RICH AND FAMOUS
But this huge success was really no reason for them to calm down
because they had to perform on the big German festival Rock Am Ring
and they had to prepare for the studio recording session for their
song "Carolina" at the 301 Studios in Cologne (with Uli Pallemanns) as
well as for the making of the video for this song. The reputation of
them went around the world and got known in the Republic of Korea.
ANJONG HASEO
They were invited for the sixth international junior art festival in
the Republic of Korea in Gangneung. This expirience was so huge for
the four guys that it will never be able to erase. For their journey
to Korea they had to book one more seat than normally expected. On one
of their gigs Wolfgang Kerinnis (guitar player of the prog metal band
Dreamscape), actually there as a normal visitor, was so blown away by
them...

-Thieves & Weather Postpone Skydiving Tattoo By SureFire Machine
Guitarist
SureFire Machine's guitarist Zeke Galt scheduled to get his Skydiving
Tattoo on July 4th last week in Westlock, AB (Edmonton) at the
Provincial Skydiving Championships has postponed his daring and
historic jump till August 11th due to bad weather conditions over the
last few days and the unfortunate theft of SFM's camera gear being
stolen during the scheduled event.
"It's unfortunate to postpone this jump, I've been anticipating this
for many months, having the weather not cooperating isn't so bad, that
can always be worked around, but having our camera gear stolen is just
raining on everyone's parade," SFM's guitarist Zeke says. "But when
August 11th comes around, I'm hitting the sky and landing with a brand
new tattoo."
SureFire Machine is currently on their Sinnin & Grinnin tour to
promote their self-titled E.P. release last year. Check out SFM's

-The Diablo Swing Orchestra To See North American Release Via Sensory
Records
Since the release of their debut The Butcher's Ballroom in 2007
Sweden's Diablo Swing Orchestra have gained a loyal fan base of their
own. People have embraced their mind bending mix of metal, opera,
swing jazz, and spaghetti-western soundtrack with open arms and they
have been perceived as a fresh breath of air in a genre getting more
and more stale and formulaic.
DSO's sophomore effort titled SING-ALONG SONGS FOR THE DAMNED &
DELIRIOUS proves that they are no one hit wonder but are here to stay.
The new album is a smörgåsbord of different levels of musical insanity
building on the foundation laid down on their debut. The cover art was
crafted by acclaimed Swedish illustrator Peter Bergting, most notable
for his work with the graphic novel "Gangkrig 145;" a Swedish #1
bestseller. Touring will begin in September starting with ProgPower
USA and will continue in Europe later in the fall.
Licensed from Ascendance Records to Sensory Records for North American
distribution, SING-ALONG SONGS FOR THE DAMNED & DELIRIOUS shall be
made available to North American fiends on September 22nd.
The Tale Of The DSO
The Diablo Swing Orchestra dates back to 1501 in Sweden, where history
tells the tale of an orchestra with music so feral, seductive and
divine that the ensemble overwhelmed audiences all over the country.
Their concerts attracted more people than High Mass in church and as a
result the members of the orchestra was accused of being treacherous
and the spawn of Satan.
"The Devil's Orchestra" was the epithet used by the church in an
attempt to halt their success. Hostilities from the church grew
stronger and the orchestra finally felt the need to flee. They decided
to go out in style by giving one last concert. Before doing so they
all signed a pact stating that their descendants were given the task
of reuniting the orchestra in 500 years in order to continue their
work of spreading thought-provoking music. Six envelopes were sealed
and given to trustees of the orchestra to pass on to family members.
The final concert was a great success. Thousands of people came to see
it, and the massive sing-along of the crowd made the performance the
most talked about in history. Afterwards, armed guards arrested the
orchestra and they were subsequently sentenced to death by hanging.
Stockholm 2003. By mere accident two of their descendants met in a
music shop and began to discuss music. They both had received a
strange letter from some ancient relative containing instructions on
how to reunite The Devil's Orchestra. By searching through archives
and records they managed to track down the other four descendants.
With reference to the old moniker they took the name Diablo Swing
Orchestra and are determined to honor the legacy of their ancestors.

-I'm Better Than Everyone To Release Live U.S. Christmas Album
Although their name would invoke yuletide tidings and blissful
chanting, U.S. Christmas creates music which is anything but. Spanning
the dark, decrepit and painful side of disharmonic psychedelia, this
North Carolina outfit has successfully distilled the essence of
cacophony through countless layers of sound and crushing waves of
volume that are an orchestrated assault on the senses. None other than
Neurosis' Scott Kelly took notice of U.S. Christmas through his Combat
Music Radio show, playing their material regularly on the show which
ultimately led to a release on their esteemed Neurot Recordings
imprint.
I'm Better Than Everyone Records will be releasing a live full-length
LP. One side will consist of a live acoustic set recorded the day
before Atlanta's 2009 Scion festival, while the remaining wax will
contain one new and unreleased live track alongside a live non-
acoustic version of their song "Say Sister."
Release date slated for sometime this August. Stay tuned for details.

-Susperia
Passion has long been at the core of Norway's Susperia. Battling their
way through obstacles that would crush lesser humans, their journey
bears a musical heart that has year-after-year delivered onto their
loyal and growing fanbase quality music that strikes with not only
power but shines with their unique sense of melody. ATTITUDE, the
band's latest album, again finds the band making unparalleled strides.
With a new label and even stronger focus, the band hopes to reach a
new level of success.
Formed in 1998 by drummer Tjodalv (then of Dimmu Borgir) and guitarist
Cyrus (then of Satyricon/Old Man's Child), Susperia released their
debut, PREDOMINANCE, in 2001. The much-acclaimed VINDICATION followed
in 2003 and after signing with Norwegian indie label Tabu in 2004, the
band quickly unveiled third album, UNLIMITED. Brave Words & Bloody
Knuckles called the album, "a scorcher from start to finish, on par
with Testament classic THE GATHERING."
Commenting on the new album, vocalist Athera recently noted, "ten
years and still the same five guys. We have worked nearly two years on
this material, perfecting it for your pleasure and our devoted fans.
It will take you back to the early days with melancholic riffing and
dark emotional vocals. It's a perfect blend of everything Susperia has
been and become." ATTITUDE was recorded at various studios during the
later part of 2008 and mixed by Fredrik Nordstrom (In Flames,
Meshuggah).

-Obituary: DARKEST DAY
Release Date: June 30, 2009
When Obituary announced plans to record a new album in early 2007, the
metal world stood up and applauded. One of death metal's crown jewels
was returning and fans couldn't have been more enthused. The album,
XECUTIONER'S RETURN, delivered the goods as only Obituary could. Now,
two years later, the band returns with eighth full-length DARKEST DAY.
Signature in every way, the record proves the band gets even better
with age.
Obituary's core of brothers -- John Tardy (vocals) and Donald Tardy
(drums) -- with guitarist Trevor Peres came together in 1984 forming
what would become one of death metal's most successful and
internationally respected bands. Obituary 2009 -- the Tardy brothers,
Peres, guitarist Ralph Santolla and bassist Frank Watkins -- remains
unwaveringly brutal. Said John Tardy about the new CD DARKEST DAY, "It
came out really sick and I cannot wait for you guys to hear it... it
is heavy!" Added guitarist Ralph Santolla, "The new stuff is heavy,
some of my favorite OBI riffs yet. Trevor's guitar sounds huge and
menacing. If you like Obituary, you're gonna love this record."
The band once again worked with artist Andreas Marschall, who created
the art for THE END COMPLETE, FROZEN IN TIME, and the group's last
record, XECUTIONER'S RETURN.

-Ensiferum: Album Title + Track Listing Revealed
Finnish folk metallers Ensiferum have set FROM AFAR as the title of
their fourth album, slated for a U.S. release on September 8, 2009
(September 9th for the rest of the world) via Spinefarm Records. The
CD was produced by Tero Kinnunen (Nightwish, Amorphis) and Janne
Joutsenniemi, who produced the band's previous offering, VICTORY SONGS
and mixed by Hiili Hiilesmaa (HIM, Sentenced, Amorphis). The band will
embark on a European headlining tour in support of FROM AFAR in
October with a return to the states to follow shortly thereafter.
FROM AFAR Track Listing:
01. "By The Dividing Stream"
02. "From Afar"
03. "Twilight Tavern"
04. "Heathen Throne"
05. "Elusive Reaches"
06. "Stone Cold Metal"
07. "Smoking Ruins"
08. "Tumman Virran Taa"
09. "The Longest Journey (Heathen Throne Part II)"
10. "Vandraren" *(limited-edition bonus track; Nordman cover)
After entering the studio for the first time in the latter part of the
'90s, Ensiferum -- Latin for "Sword Bearer" -- has consistently
sharpened its sound, dispensing epic music heavy in both atmosphere
and attack. With their most recent opus VICTORY SONGS, which will be
reissued by Spinefarm Records with U.S. exclusive bonus material on
October 13, 2009, Ensiferum took "Folk/Viking melodic metal" to a new
level of grandeur. Metal Maniacs called VICTORY SONGS, "the kind of
metal for which the beer Steiner was invented. Catchy in spite of its
heaviness, it's yet another quality offering in a genre that everyone
would love if only they'd embrace the Pagan within." Earning a 4/5
rating, About.com called the record "a distinctive and very appealing
sound," with Decibel adding "... it's pretty amazing to hear a twee
little jig of an intro segue into a blast beat." Ensiferum had its
first two albums -- 2001's ENSIFERUM and 2004's IRON -- officially
released for the very first time in the U.S. last spring via Spinefarm
Records. Both albums contain exclusive bonus material.
The band is currently on the road on the 2009 North American edition

-Dusted Angel's End-Time Doom Rock Unleashed
Santa Cruz, California has given birth to an ungodly musical beast
known as Dusted Angel. Formed in 2008, the band features Clifford
Dinsmore on vocals, Bill Torgerson on drums, Eric Feiber and Scott
Stevens manning the guitars and Eliot Young on bass, Dusted Angel's
members are longtime friends from the days when several of the members
rolled together in hardcore henchmen Bl'ast. Following that band,
Clifford was a member of avant-prog-doomsters Spaceboy, and also
helped form the cerebrally crushing outfit Gargantula.
Over the past half year since their inception, Dusted Angel has
transformed from somewhat of a side-project into a full-on act for the
members. After playing out quite a bit locally and generating a
massive response in the region in recent months, the band have also
recently put a few tracks onto wax. Dusted Angel's upcoming self-
titled debut 7" will be released on L.A.-based indie label Corruption
Recordings this September. Featuring three sludged-out sledgehammer
tracks mixed by Billy Anderson (Neurosis, High On Fire, etc.), this is
just the beginning. A full-length record is being planned now and is
to be recorded soon for a yet-to-be decided label.
More local shows and tour actions are in the planning stages for 2009.

-Megadeth's ENDGAME is due September 15 on Roadrunner. Track list:

Part Of Letting Go... Sealed With A Kiss," "Headcrusher," "How The

Sneap and Dave Mustaine. Hype: "ENDGAME boasts the technicality,
ferocity and snarl that's synonymous with Megadeth and Mustaine. It's
a violent masterwork that represents Mustaine's best work in nearly
two decades." Joining Mustaine on the album are guitarist Chris
Broderick, bassist James Lomenzo, and drummer Shawn Drover.
-Metal Church announced its performance this weekend at Rocklahoma
will be its swansong. Part of the band's statement reads as follows:

made it next to impossible for us to continue in any kind of
professional manner due to lack of tour support. This decision was not
made lightly." One more release is still possible, as "unfinished
business in the studio" was hinted at.

-Man, what a complete and utter drag to hear about Midnight... True, I
did sort of lose the plot with his recent solo output but any -- and I
mean ANY -- self-respecting metal fan has to agree the first two
Crimson Glory albums are classics. I've always maintained 1988's
TRANSCENDENCE is one of three "perfect" metal albums, along with
Queensryche's OPERATION:MINDCRIME and Dream Theater's IMAGES AND
WORDS. The combination of Midnight's vocal prowess, the poetic
lyricism, atmosphere, artwork, and the intricate musicianship on
TRANSCENDENCE is simply unbeatable. (And when I discovered the links
between the album and the Tarot -- wow. Appreciation to a whole
'nother level.)
I remember first reading about the band in Hit Parader, oh probably
around '87, and the image of the five guys wearing metal masks caught
my eye. The reviewer compared their theatrical nature to Kiss, and I
decided I had to check them out. But for whatever reason, they fell
off my radar. Then a couple years later in college, I was at the
campus radio station (WKDI in DeKalb, Illinois) one night with two
friends and we found a vinyl copy of TRANSCENDENCE in the station's
"metal cabinet." After drooling over the supreme coolness of the cover
art, I thought, "Ohhh yeah! These guys!!" My friends played "Lady Of
Winter" on their radio show and we were all hooked immediately. (A bit
later that evening, my friend Pete somehow managed to stumble upon a
Crimson Glory T-shirt stuffed into a desk elsewhere in the station,
and he nabbed it. And no I am *not* still bitter about it.)
I remember getting the TRANSCENDENCE CD and dubbing it to cassette so
I could listen to it in my car. To fill up side 2 I recorded a bunch
of demos by the local Chicago band Defcon. A while later, my friend
Paul was curious about Defcon so I let him borrow my tape. When he got
back from his road trip he gushed, "Forget Defcon man, who is that
band on side 1?! They rule!!" That was one of my proudest moments --
during high school Paul had turned me on to about 500 bands and for me
to get this reaction out of him was priceless.
Also... I can't even tell you how many times I listened to that album
in the car. Simply an awesome experience. My college girlfriend lived
about 45-50 minutes from my house so the album was the perfect length
for the ride home. It was a trip to be in the only car on the road at
night, listening to the blazing "Eternal World" and the haunting title
track. One time, during "Transcendence," right when Midnight sang "The
snow was gently falling, a white mist filled the air," it actually
began snowing. That freaked me out and gave me goose bumps. Powerful
stuff, I tell you.
Back to the TRANSCENDENCE artwork... Yes I actually sat down and
translated the runes scattered throughout to figure out the "hidden
message." I wrote it down somewhere but have since forgotten the
translation. Maybe tonight I'll decipher it again, in tribute to
Midnight.
Eventually I began collecting whatever I could find. I went back and
got the self-titled debut, which is awesome as well, and I have fond
memories of arguing with my friends about which was faster and heavier
-- "Mayday" or Helloween's song "Starlight." And when I found out the
"Lonely" single had a non-album track called "Dream Dancer?" WHAM! I
had to have it. Ditto the goofy old OUT OF THE DARKNESS compilation
that had a few bootleg live tracks. MINE! STRANGE AND BEAUTIFUL threw
me for a loop, as it did many others, but hey, it was a new CG album
nonetheless. I was surprised the band reformed without Midnight a few
years later, but I remained a fan. I dutifully picked up Midnight's
solo releases M and SAKADA, too, and kept my fingers crossed for a
true comeback. Sadly, it won't happen.
I was able to interview guitarist Jon Drenning around the time
ASTRONOMICA came out, I interviewed vocalist David Van Landing (who
was Midnight's original replacement in Crimson Glory), and I e-mailed
a few times with Wade Black, but I never got a chance to speak to the
man himself. I regret that but I'll always have some stellar music to
remember him by. R.I.P.
Finally, take a look at our friend Mark Morton's thoughts on Midnight:

-So Judas Priest is playing "Rock Hard Ride Free" on the current
BRITISH STEEL 30th anniversary tour? AWESOME! (As you might've noticed
by my column's title, I kinda like that song.) I'm really getting
jacked up to see Priest on the 19th here in Chicago. I can't wait to
hear "Steeler," "The Rage," and "Rapid Fire" live. Also, there's been
some 'net chatter that the band will film this tour and include a live
DVD with the official 30th anniversary BRITISH STEEL reissue next
year. Fingers crossed.
-Anyone else think the "re-master" of Twisted Sister's STAY HUNGRY
sounds, um, less than stellar? Turns out there was a problem with the
disc's production, and the band and label are working to rectify it.
According to info at MelodicRock.com, Rhino Records will replace
faulty discs; if you need one send an e-mail to Dr.Rhino@...
with "Twisted Sister" as the subject line. You will then receive
instructions on how to get a replacement disc. Very cool.
-Check out Testament guitarist Alex Skolnick's blog, SkolNotes, at

W.A.S.P.'s Blackie Lawless.
-In my current playlist: Crimson Glory - TRANSCENDENCE (MCA), Machines
Of Grace - s/t (Winterfall Music), Vision Divine - 9 DEGREES WEST OF
THE MOON (Frontiers), Holy Water - THE COLLECTED SESSIONS (Perris
Records).

IQ - FREQUENCY (B+/B) InsideOut Music, 2009

Neo-Prog outfit IQ force you to spend some time digesting their latest
effort FREQUENCY, but it's eventually time well spent for those with a
taste for the genre and the patience to allow FREQUENCY to reveal
itself. The album starts off strong with the excellent title track,
this one fairly accessible with a beautifully haunting keyboard melody
accentuated by atmospheric guitar work, intricate percussion, nimble
bass and a smooth vocal delivery. Keyboards play a big role on
FREQUENCY, following track "Life Support" a good example, with a
sensitive piano intro leading to an emotional performance by vocalist
Peter Nicholls and some inspired synth by newcomer Mark Westworth.
You'll find some typical epic (read: long) pieces on FREQUENCY,
including the dramatically building "Ryker Skies" and involved rocker
"The Province," and it is this length that may deter some listeners
from fully investigating the album, tedium likely setting in for many
by final cut "Closer." The combination of drawn out segments with
Nicholls' consistently smooth delivery make this one perhaps not the
most immediate album you'll hear this year, but if subtlety is your
thing there's much to like here, and longtime IQ fans will probably
find FREQUENCY quite satisfying...

MACHINES OF GRACE (A-/B+) Winterfall Music, 2009

Effectively bringing the melodic metal/hard rock glory of the late
'80s into the modern era is Zachary Stevens' new outfit Machines Of
Grace. Originating as a continuation of Zak's pre-Savatage band Wicked
Witch, Machines Of Grace also features Wicked Witch band mates Matt
Leff (guitar) and Jeff Plate (drums; and who you'll probably remember
was also with Zak in Savatage), along with bassist Chris Rapoza. What
you'll find on the Machines Of Grace debut are songs like "Just A
Game," "Soul To Fire," "Bleed" and "Psychotic," often reminiscent of
bands such as Badlands, Dokken and Lion, but with an updated
production that keeps things from straying too far into "retro"
territory. Not a million miles away from Zak's other project Circle II
Circle, but Machines Of Grace offer a more stripped down, basic sound.
So you have good songwriting, a crisp guitar/rhythm interaction and
Zak's impassioned vocals here; whether or not this will capture the
ears of the younger generation remains to be seen, but I'm enjoying
it!
