Unfortunately Theo, I doubt she'll perform Norma now. I've also read in one of her interviews that if ever, she should have done it in 2001 in Japan. Actually I listened to a casta diva a friend lent me and was very impressed by how much voice she focused in the lower region which I didn't think she had.
I also remember reading her saying that the Milanese are not prepared for her Norma so she'd have to do it outside Italy. I do admit that right now I'd rather hear her as Straniera but of course anything new is always welcome.
I very much look forward to the translated article when you get some spare time.
Cheers
Takis

Perhaps Violetta Valery would like to confirm this unless she's not
well again...nasty illness that TBC.
LOL :-D; yes, nasty bussiness consumption, luckily it hasn't been
keeping me from my net duties and hopefully i'll be able to "sing"
about two acts more on our disscussion group.
I received myself the Bell Song from a friend; but since i have the
Carnegie Hall version i'm pretty sure too it is from the Lugano
Concert. I was really excited when i first listened to it, i
couldn't believe she was that close to perfection, i mean, i have
read about it, but just couldn't believe my ears, a-ma-zin-g... as
always.
About the article, most of what Takis found interesting i found
interesting myself and i have become especially interested, since
reading the article in hearing her Norma. Anyway from what i have
read in some Italian interwievs she has no thoughts of doing Norma
in Italy because of the atmosphere and because of those "who were"
(she has such respect for what she does and such love for Bellini,
that i'm partly not surprised); she'll probably do it in other
countries (i hope NOT Japan!it so far... from us European fans)
Finally, i envy all those Devia collectors with acces to such jewels
as her debut, for example. There is nothing i regret more than
becoming a fan now, that Mariella's carriere is slowly approaching
closure. But, better late than never!
Now i'm working on a translation from Italian on another Devia
article... I'm keeping it a surprise just for the moment, when it'll
be ready i'll post it for all of us to enjoy.

that long and juicy article you posted. Can't wait to read it but
have to turn in now. I'll feed back on this tomorrow!
