It appears that "I Hope," the song the Chicks performed on
yesterday's benefit for the hurrican victims, will indeed
be on the new CD.
News passed on to Nici's message board at
http://www.DixieChicksFans.net reveals this quote from an
interview with producer Rick Rubin in the September 22
issue of Rolling Stone Magazine:

"Next, more reluctantly, Rubin pops in an even rougher mix
of his work with the Dixie Chicks. "We don't have the
harmonies done yet, so you're really going to have to fill
in a lot, mentally here," he says. The first track he
plays begins with an ominous, acoustic bit reminiscent of
Neil Young, building into an angry, wailing crescendo.
"Instead of making a country album that had a rock side,"
he says, "we wanted to do a rock album that leaned
country, like Petty or Gram Parsons."
During the next track, he says, "Imagine Crosby, Stills
and Nash singing this chorus." It is clearly paining Rubin
that the harmonies are not yet in place. "You're really
not getting the full picture," he says, closing his eyes
and letting the music carry him away. It's approaching
twilight, and the library is growing dim. As the song
continues, he begins to softly sing harmony on the chorus.
The only words I can make out are, "I hope, I hope..."
