Well, apparently they were both invited by the Alliance for Climate Protection
which is an organization founded by Al Gore. They try to bring together people
that are adversaries in daily life, to bring a united message: to get attention
for climate control. They have an ad running with Nancy Pelosi sitting next to
Newt Gingrich, sitting next to each other on the bench (that ad is running here
on the West Coast).
The Chicks obviously are strong supporters of climate control (they strongly
endorsed that during their Accidents and Accusations tour), and Toby Keith also
spoke out about the issue recently. So that's what got this started I believe.
All that said, I'd like to see the Chicks and Toby Keith together on a national
TV ad speaking out on behalf of the environment --- if nothing else, it would
bring the Chicks back in the limelight in a positive way. I'd really like to see
that.
ps read the Toby Keith interview - he was very much pissed off at being branded
as a rightwing redneck for his "Red White and Blue" - apparently he is a
lifelong Democrat. Interesting.

Maybe the girls want to drop things, esp. Emily, who just divorced. Natalie
hasn't been very vocal lately.

Dixie Chicks, Toby Keith Cancel Global Warming Appearance
July 23, 2008
The Dixie Chicks and Toby Keith have canceled their plans to appear together
in a TV ad
about global warming, according to the San Jose Mercury News. Sponsored by the
Alliance for
Climate Protection, the campaign features public figures with opposing
political viewpoints
speaking out about global warming. Keith told the newspaper the Dixie Chicks
were not
available on the two dates that he had open, and after he agreed to a third
date, the band
again wasn't available. Keith said, "It's hard to get people that don't get
along to agree when
all those egos and stuff are involved." Noting that he's never spoken to the
trio, he noted,
"We've never met, officially."
