just to be clear: so the idea is that the DSO can plug right into the
VD-01? That would be sweet.

How easy to build is the SMD mounted kit? Can any idiot who is very bad
a soldering (i.e. me) do it? Or is it more an intermediate/advanced project?

no, the dso is a scope itself no need for the VD-01 at all

here's a few pics of mine, first is the scope as it looks after building,
the last two are after i mounted it into an abs box

oh and as for building the kit, its not that hard, its fidly since its all
micro, but if you buy the pre mounted smd kit and have a fine soldering iron
and a steady hand its not that bad at all, see pics 01.jpg and onwards for
pics from my build ;)

I have decided to get rid of some unused Doepfer
modules, as I am moving to a banana system/modding modules to banana jacks. I am
based in East London
(UK) so local pickup is a possibility. You pay shipping etc...

All modules are in good condition, ask if you want different knobs
than the grey Doepfer - I have lots of these in various colours which I
can add:

http://www.rapidonline.com/Tools-Fasteners-Production-Equipment/Fasten
ers-Fixings/Knobs/15mm-Three-colour-mixer-knobs/64709

All prices are GBP

I may be interested in trades (A-156 would be nice!)

Paypal payment, or otherwise if you're UK based.

Prices are fairly flexible, please ask.

All modules come with ribbon cables and screws.

Audio Divider A-115 = £33

High-End VCO A-111 = £147

Harvestman Malgorithm = £155

MFB VD-01 = £98

Cheers,

Charlie

Hi everyone,

I just picked up a used a106-6 XP VCF and I have a quick question.
In the "3a" all pass mode the filter is silent when the frequency knob is fully
clockwise. This is a behavior I would expect from a high pass filter, not an
all pass filter. Is this normal behavior?

Thanks,

Rafael

The gate will produce harsh clicks on the VCA (especially annoying at
the note end!). You always need something like a slew limiter (which
then acts like an AR-envelope) between Gate and VCA-CVin.

indeed.

many times i have used gates passing thru a slew limiter as a 'simple gating
envelope' for vca's.

thanks for the tip, i was thinking to gate a filter, something akin to the
sh101 gate switch where the env is disabled.

thanks for the info. And your build documentation is nice to see. One
last question: did your DSO need programming for modular use, or is the
programming facility for more esoteric purposes?

Has anyone found a source for assembled DSO? (europe preferably)

i was looking and found this alternative, which also looks very interesting

http://www.seeedstudio.com/depot/index.php?main_page=shopping_cart

i hope this isn't all too off topic, but I'm guessing a lot of people
will be interested.

no, it was good to go right away, the programming is for firmware updates.
One thing i woudl say about the scope is that since its lcd its not got the
refresh rate of a crt scope, i guess thats obvious but its always worth a
mention ;-)

I added a mini jack to mine so that i could plug it into a multiple on my
modular and read waveforms there, but you could go the whole hog and make a
panel, here's a link to a guy who did exactly that

http://modularsynthesis.com/modules/DJB-019/djb019.htm

there's also a video there of it in action

I took a look an A-142 from our stock: The max. envelope time (i.e. Decay
control fully CW) should be approx. 10 seconds. The envelope time should
change to a minimum of ~ 2 ms in a exponential control scale. Probably the
module is misadjusted. Adjust the only trimming potentiometer on the pcb
(top right edge) so that the envelope time is ~ 10...20 seconds if the Decay
control is fully CW.

In addition I took a look at our records. There was a minor change early in
2006. The value of the resistor R6 was set to 120k (instead of 100k). If R6
is 100k there is a small dead range near the CCW position of the Decay
control. The control affects the envelope time not until ~ position 2 or 3
is reached. R6 is the resistor below the CV control (left to the word
"A-100" on the pc board). If you own an A-142 manufactured before 2006 this
dead range will occur.

Best wishes

Dear members. Thank you for the poll. We will show another TKB prototype at
NAMM (new "non-keyboard" layout and new working principle). After NAMM we
will decide if we manufacture the TKB at all and which version if
applicable. Maybe we can separate the pad board from the electronics so that
we are able to offer two different pad layouts (keyboard and non-keyboard
like). We will see ...

Funny. The string phaser was one of my very first developments (about end of
the seventies) based on a voltage controlled phaser (similar to the A-125)
and special "string LFO".

Curious, you built in the seventies in euro-rack format or has it been modifed
since your original build?

What system was it built for?

As far as I remember it was compatible to the Formant system (DIY synth
project by the magazine Elektor).

Not really. The format of the front panels, frames and cases was an industry
standard a long time ago (e.g. used by Schroff). But in this standard all pc
boards were 100x160 mm (so-called Euro format) and a very expensive 64 pin
bus connector and bus board was used (only the bus board was ~ Euro 150). We
changed to a simpler bus board (the A-100 bus) and replaced the fixed pcb
format by a free format combined with a flexible ribbon cable for bus
connection.

Best wishes
