For all those in the New York area, my article on Donnie was printed in the new issue of Rap Fanatic with the Ying Yang Twins on the cover!
I am so glad I have been able to contribute to such a soulful wonderful artist getting some press in the mainstream. However I'm pissed his label dropped him. Don't worry Donnie the big payback is comming! Good luck with everything!

I wanted to add, just in case, the home page was http://www.xpozmagazine.com and the interview was in issue 3. The website will let you download the entire magazine (for free) and the interview was on page 12 I think- but it's under construction.
Hope that helps,

Yes, I read this at http://www.xpozmagazine.com/xo/issue3.pdf earlier this week and enjoyed it very much. I was glad to find that he's working on some new material that's supposed to be better than The Colored Section!
Thanks so much for a wonderful and informative article.
A pleasure to read.

For those who didn't see it, attached is the Donnie ariticle I wrote in XPOZ. I scanned it for you guys! This was printed a few months back and he was still signed to Motown then. I did not know he was dropped from the label. What a shame-he is areally great artist. It's all about marketing and promotion. The strange thing is is after I wrote this article I sent it to his manager, to give copies to Donnie and the label, and she never got back to me. I even emailed her this article but no response. I wonder if Motown even knew he was getting press over here! Anyways, enyjoy, and let me know what you all think!

Thursday, July 21 Irving Plaza, New York NY Buy Tickets
event description
With her strikingly soulful voice and trip-hop beats, Esthero's stunning debut 'Breath From Another' was a breath of fresh air when it came out in 1998. After a long hiatus, the Canadian pop princess recently released her sophomore album 'Wikked Lil' Grrrls' described by Rolling Stone as "an album more concerned with subtle beauty than commercial bombast." Her flawless live shows bring together a multiple-piece orchestra and let Esthero show her rich, fierce vocals through vibrant songs like "We R In Need of A Musical Revolution," "
O.G. Bitch" and "That Girl" making it a full forced experience hard to top. Featuring strong, husky vocals and a powerful stage presence, newcomer Leela James will open for Esthero performing songs from her debut 'A Change is Gonna Come' that combines timeless seventies funk stylings with new school soul grooves.

Feels like it was yesterday that Giant Step was born, yet here we are celebrating our 15 year anniversary! Giant Step has always been about sharing music, so to celebrate we are taking over the amazing SummerStage in Central Park to bring Nigerian Afro-beat king Femi Kuti and the Brazilian Girls out into the sunshine. It's our way of saying thanks to all the wonderful people who have been listening, dancing and sharing unique experiences like this with us over the past decade and a half. This company wouldn't exist without all the people who bring their energy and souls to our events, so we can't start the party until you are there. Mark your calendars and don't even think about missing what is sure to be an unforgettable outdoor show.
DJ Nickodemus: (WONDERWHEEL Recordings) From the early days of Giant Step, to today's Turntables on the Hudson parties, Nickodemus has been a key element in the NYC dance music scene for 10 years. As a DJ & a producer, he spans the World with sounds of Funk, Folk, Jazz, Hip Hop, House & Dub- all with a message of peace, awareness & love for the dance. His debut album "Endangered Species" comes out September 13th.
DJ Smash: 'NYC native, and genre jumping producer and remixer, DJ Smash is world reknowned partly for co-founding groundbreaking record labels (New Breed, Eightball Records) as well being an in demand remixer and compiler of classic record label catalogs such as Blue Note, Columbia and Motown, He also has the distinction of being one of the original Giant Step DJs (1990-94)'
Donnie was on Motown. He was signed by Kedar. He was fired and replaced by Slyia Rhone. She cleaned house...the only ones to survive her wrath was Kem, and India. I say this to say along with Erykah and Trina Broussard, Donnie is without a lable. It my take a while.
A brief update on an upcoming Donnie Show - August
19th in Chicago at the DuSable Museum (740 E. 56th
Place). There will be two shows...it is a showcase
entitled "the Neo-Soul Explosion". I will post
information on where to purchase tickets with the
times of the shows when available.
For those of you at the recent shows in the UK - (no
track or house music) - this will be a real treat -
live band with a horn section!
For those of your at the recent Apache Cafe show who
heard China Doll...he will be performing another new
song.
Enjoy!!
Elvis has left the building!

Ive been holding on to this Colored Section CD for years now and I need to know if Donnie is going to release anything anytime soon? There is so many artist that get shelved or watered by there record company because they were true to themselves and there art, and when you finally hear someone that really throws out a JEM, hes here today and gone tomorrow, and I hope he keeps putting out that sound, hes one of a kind. Im not trying to be a groupie but the brother has something special.
Even if its off of a major lable and on to these lil inde joints, internet downloads, ebay or something. DONNIE if your reading this post, dont let Colored Section be your only defining legacy. Put that brand new joint out, your REAL fans wont let you down.
Yeah he's still doing his thing. I interviewed him four months ago for XPOZ Magazine, and the article came out shortly after.

I couldn't have said it better myself! I've been holding on to my cd for a while too waiting for more- even something on the radio. It's rare to run into someone who's heard of him, even more rare to hear his music played. I've heard that when his stuff didn't catch on the first time, Motown re-released it a couple years back.
I've been turning people on to him, and when they hear him, they like it and go out and buy it if they can find it. I'm still waiting on something more... even if it's a guest spot on someone else's album. I think he and India Arie would make some beautiful music together myself.
I sent an email to the moderator for some booking info for a music festival we're putting on, but still nothing. I hope he's still encouraged by his fans and will give us something pretty soon. True artists like him are hard to come by.
