A great 2 days at the winery event. Great weather, great friends,
great wine, great music, and a great atmosphere. In case you can't
tell Julie and I had a great time. Every entertainer brought
something
different, including their own personal fans, and it was fun to not
only listen and watch the different bands but to watch their fans
express themselves. The Turtles certainly brought the crowd alive,
but
David Pack was absolutely fantastic, performing those Ambrosia songs,
and made a real classy dedication to Keith as well. After these
performances along with The Rowan Brothers, Little Feat, and Pablo
Cruise, the Doobies with Michael certainly capped a great day, and I
wondered how Sunday would measure up to day one. It didn't take long
to measure up as Sunday began with Tommy's daughter Lara, and wow,
this girl has pipes. she has a beautiful voice, performing songs such
as, Free Ride,I Heard It Thru The Grape Vine along with some Aretha
Franklin, and many more great standards. And what a band she had with
her as well! Tommy looked on from side stage and soon strapped on his
guitar and joined her on stage which was awesome. The Old Boot Band,
and Victoria George, and Little Feat performed next and the the
Doobies with Michael ripped it up again, as the sun began to decend
in
the vineyards behind the stage. What an amazing sight. The Doobies
ripped through 13 songs and the crowd was great. Michael performed
What a Fool Believes, and Minute by Minute to name a couple of songs
in the set. Then Willie came out of nowhere to join in on Listen to
the Music. After this Willie took over and what a great performance
hearing some classic songs and the Doobies playing with him.
Willie started out with Whiskey River, and Beer for My Horses, and
performed a total of 21 or 22 songs including Crazy, On the Road
Again, and Always on My Mind. Security had to step it up a bit as a
few women made it up on stage to get a closer look at Willie if you
know what I mean.
It was another great day!
Shad was on fire for 2 days. I wish I had this man's energy, but I
believe they auctioned off 3 guitars at $10,000 each. Someone will
have to correct me if I am wrong about this. As well A framed poster
of the shows, and a large bottle of Cohn Wine were auctioned off.
Shad had veterans, his co-workers, and Pat and Cris on stage with
him,
which was really special, thanking all the people that make their
journey for the NVF possible, as well as Bruce Cohn. But what a great
event and it is so interesting to see, all of the work that goes into
this(on the surface)and how many voluteers there are from the
community pitching in to make it a success and help all of the
charities. A really proud event for Mr. Cohn and the Doobies, and
everyone that donates their time.
I think I've blabbed long enough, but this is something you really
have to experience if you haven't already. I know we are glad we did.
Thanks to everyone for a great time, My buddy Jim Marr of course, and
a special thaks to Suzie Willis for finding my shoe Sat night(Julie
was supposed to keep an eye on my stuff)
