Greetings McD Fans!

Just wanted to touch base and let you know about a few exciting things
happening.

First off is The Grammies this Sunday, Feb. 8. You all probably know that
Michael is up for 2 awards. He will be at the awards show, possibly as a
presenter. So tune in to CBS.

Second...Also on CBS, Mike will be featured on Sunday Morning, a CBS morning
show. It was shot in Nashville and NY and will have interviews and live
footage. That's "early" Sunday morning. Check your local listings.

Third...if you're in the Tennessee area, there will be a feature article on
Michael in The Tennessean on Sat. Feb. 7.

And lastly...it's all but certain that Michael will co-headline this summer with
Hall and Oates. Average White Band will be supporting. We'll have those dates
on the site as soon as we have them.

Thanks so much and hope you can tune into The Grammies. We're all rooting for
Mike!

Peace,
bvc

Here's a version of the Cornelius Bumpus obituary I saw in the
Minneapolis
   Star-Tribune:

   Pop Saxophonist Cornelius Bumpus Dies
By BRANDON FERGUSON, Associated Press Writer

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) - Saxophonist Cornelius Bumpus, a former
member of the
Doobie Brothers who has performed with Steely Dan since 1993, died
Tuesday
en route to a series of performances in California. He was 58.

Bumpus had a heart attack on a commercial flight from New York,
said his
friend, Rod Harris, an organizer of the Columbia College Jazz
Concert
Series, where Bumpus was to perform this week.

"I was expecting to hear from him today, then his wife called,"
Harris said.
"She told me that they landed in Kansas City. We spoke for maybe
about three
or four minutes about the shock of it all."

Bumpus' wife told Harris that her husband was dead when the plane
made an
   emergency landing.

Steely Dan, on its Web site, expressed its "profound sorrow and
sympathy to
   Cornelius' wife and family."

Bumpus began his career at age 10, playing alto saxophone in the
school band
in Santa Cruz, Calif. In 1966, he spent six months performing with
Bobby
Freeman, and joined Moby Grape in 1977, writing one tune for
the "Live
Grape" album. Bumpus also recorded two solo albums and toured with
his own
   band.

Since performing with The Doobie Brothers in the early 1980s,
Bumpus played
with a number of bands, most recently with Steely Dan, which won
the "Album
of the Year" Grammy for its 2000 "Two Against Nature" release.

His relations with his former Doobies bandmates turned contentious
in the
late 1990s, when they sued him and several other musicians over
their use of
the Doobies name. A federal judge in 1999 ruled against Bumpus and
the other
musicians, ordering them not to use the name.

Thanks for sharing, fortunately Mike & the Doobies still do some

<swmaxine@y...> wrote:
Hi. Although I am new to this group, I am not a stranger to Michael
McDonald nor the Doobie Brothers. My husband and I recently
attended the Kucinich fundraiser gig in Austin which Michael and Pat
shared a brief spotlight in. When I say brief, I do mean brief.
The show was entitled, "Willie Nelson and Friends" and was held in
the Austin Music Hall which seated about 2,000 souls. The tickets
were pricey: a whopping $55 each and for what I came for, were
definitely NOT worth the cost. The show lasted approximately 2
hours and 30 minutes. About 7 different artists performed that night
and amongst the best were Miss Bonnie Raitt and of course, Michael
and Mr. Simmons. Michael and Pat were only on stage 20 minutes and
Michael's solo song was "Heard it Through the Grapevine" which, in
my opinion, heated up that 65 degree concert hall like a Longhorns
bonfire. Lord have mercy! What a man! I am in awe of Michael's
vocal talents, style and rhythm and to top it all off, that majestic
white mane and contrasting aqua-blue eyes. Pat and Michael played a
total of 5 Doobie songs together, among them: Long Train Runnin and
Taking to the Streets. Pat and Michael roused the sluggish
political supporters out of their metal folding chairs enough to get
a few butt wiggles out of them, myself included (even though I did
not come to support Kucinich). We were quickly squelched by
security who asked us to sit down. No sooner had the butt wiggling
started that Pat and Michael exited off stage and vanished behind a
curtain resembling a black hole where they stayed until the encore.
Their performance was an appetizer and left me hungering for a main
course for which THERE WAS NONE. During the show's encore song which
was a religious hymn, the entire cast of performing artists came
back on stage. Pat and Michael were unfortunately up-staged by a
young, arrogent performer by the name of Michelle Shocked who used
her voice the way a bouncer flexes his muscles. Since seating was
arranged according to the caste system, my husband and I enjoyed
seats in the drone section and through out the night, I saw very
little of what was happening on stage due to my poor eye sight and
an 8 pound human head obstructing my view. In summation, I had a
very disappointing experience and I have come to the conclusion that
that best and most cost-effective way to experience Michael McDonald
and The Doobie Brothers is in the comfort of one's own home in front
of the DVD or CD player. Thank you for the opportunity to share my
thoughts.
Sincerely,
Gina "Cinderella" Dorman

Excellent! As a member of this fan club....Thank you!
Salt Lake City has just opened up an outdoor theatre and
have already booked the summer concert series. I can't wait
for the Doobies to play in it next summer and will be doing
JUST what you did in informing the venue of the bands
schedule and requesting them as the entertainment.
Peace, Holly
