Hi Timothy,
Well it's really nice to hear from someone else who loves D.S.'s music. I
discovered "Humming" quite by accident and soon fell in love with (most of)
it. Then I had to get the first album, and after a few weeks' listening to
that I've decided I like it almost as much. Unfortunately, I know very
little about him and he never seems to be on the radio, at least here in
Sydney. I was hoping this list would give me more info and get me up to date
with his doings. But - so far - there's been no news at all!
I wouldn't agree with you, though, that he's totally original and sounds
like no one else. I'd categorise him as a kind of male Sarah Maclachlan. If
you like D.S. my guess is that you would like a lot of Sarah Maclachlan as
well. "Reasons for Living" is VERY S.M. I think. But of course there are
added dimensions as well, particularly the wonderful string arrangements. I
haven't been able to find any male artists who are remotely similar, though
D.S. is clearly inspired by some aspects of Jeff Buckley's work.
Anyway, does anyone on this list know what Duncan is doing now????
