Thanks for the reflections. I think it is timely to think about organizing an Iberian OS institute. Berlin might be a good place to have that conversation, particularly if you reach out to people to attend.
I appreciate your thoughts on the web site. The OSI-US board is in a place of re-thinking how we approach our work. To date, because we have supported Michael's work with the main OST web site, we haven't put energy into a separate OSI-US presence. The fact that an environmental organization comes up when you google OSI does add to the challenge. So, I have no answers, but I am sharing your reflections with the rest of the board.

I am afraid that I don´t know very well what I want to talk with you about...
So, begining about what is clear to me.
As you know OST is very week in all Latin countries of Europe.
But I think, OST is now aproaching a turning point in Portugal, and probably also in Spain. But also in France, from what I can see. And I don´t know much about OST in Italy
So one of my ideas, was about the possibility of creating an OSI of Portugal (probably with name in a Portuguese translation...).
But, if your remember my idea of the Iberian Wiki (http://www.openspaceworld.org/cgi/iberia.cgi?) that is written both in Portuguese and Spanish, I wonder if this couldn't be an Iberian OSI (Portugal and Spain, or even, eventually, an Iberian languages' Institute, exploring links with Latin America, where OST is more develloped).
Then I begin searching for "Open Space Institutes" and the first thing that came out from google was this: http://www.osiny.org/site/PageServer, that is probably very interesting but is not related to OST. (Shouldn't we change the name to OST Institute?)
And if the presence of Openspaceworld.org in the Internet is now good, since the last OSonOS in Berlin (even if with almost no changes in the last few years) the presence of
OS(T) Institutes in the Internet is bad. And there is also the OST world map, that is not integrated with openspaceworld.org.
OSIs from Canada and Denmark are in good ranks at Google, but OSI USA is almost only a subsection of openspacewporld.org, with no vitallity on its own (sorry for saying so) and I was wondering what can be done about all that.
And, as you know, wOSONOS is coming back to Berlin 10 years later. I am planning to go to Berlin next year, by the way, and think of doing some promotion in the latin countries and profit from this good opportunity to promote intense contacts with other people from the South of Europe that can go there too.
So maybe another OST turning point is on the way, at least in the South of Europe. And why not world wide?
I really dont´t know in what direction or what can be done, so I am looking for advise.
For a while we were doing a quarterly conference call with 1-2 people from each part of the world. Karen Davis, Brian Bainbridge, and Larry Peterson were organizing the calls. That may not be what you're asking. There is no formal arrangement among the institutes but all of us are inventing the institutes in our own way so formal is not really a word that applies. We all talk with each other.
OSI-US does accept individual members from other countries. We've not really done anything about collective members, other than spread a donation (since membership comes with a donation of any amount) among the collective.

Living Peace: the open space of our lives
An
invitation
November 18,2007
Dear Artur,
We are writing you to invite your contribution for an e-book, tentatively entitled Living Peace: the open space of our
lives. OST facilitators from around the world, experienced and people new to the practice, are being contacted for this project.
Harrison’s last book was The Practice of Peace. It was a thoughtful, playful, compelling, and engaging invitation to consider that the everyday practice of Open Space in organizations is the practice of peace. If that is so, then perhaps, taken together, those who work with OST have something to offer the world about living peace on a day-to-day basis?
<!--[if !vml]--><!--[endif]-->
There have been many conversations about the personal practice of open space, but to our knowledge this has not been captured as a book. Chris Corrigan and Michael Herman have elaborated an invaluable perspective on that practice. And I credit them, Wendy Farmer-O’Neil, Birgitt Williams, and Harrison Owen as inspiration for this book.
This book aims to deepen the conversation about the personal practice of Open Space.
For the book, we’d like to invite you to answer one question:
“What is your practice of Open Space?â€
This is an inquiry into how each of us bring open space into our lives, how we live Open Space.
In addition, you are invited to submit resources for a resource section at end of the book on practicing Open Space in life. We welcome any materials you see as valuable in deepening the personal practice of Open Space.
Amaximum length of two pages for each contribution is suggested, and this is more of a guideline than a hard and fast rule.
We’d like to ensure a broad representation of voices in the book, both in terms of perspective, experience, and geography. This invitation will also be posted to English-language OSlist and other OSlists around the world.
If you have any particular suggestions of people who should be contacted to participate in this initiative, let me know!
If you think you will be able to make a contribution, please
email Raffi at raffi@... (or raffi_1970@...). We’d like to receive submissions by February 1, 2008.
Your piece can be anything that can be presented on a printed page, a story, an essay, a parable, a word, a sentence, a picture, a diagram, anything that can convey on paper what you understand your practice of Open Space to be.
If you’d prefer to share your practice of peace in a telephone conversation that can be later transcribed into text, we’d
be more than happy to do so.
The book will be made available for free online. Perhaps at a later point, it might be available for sale in print form, in which case a significant (50% at least) of proceedings will go to support the spread of OST around the world.
Contributions will be selected by a committee (anyone with experience of OST is welcome to participate in its work). All pieces will be available for reading online, regardless of whether or not they are chosen for the book.
Vera “Dyomka†Vakulenko, a Moscow artist and community activist who designed the Open Space on Open Space XIV logo and brought much spirit to that conference will be illustrating this book. The drawing in this invitation is hers!
We intend to publish the book in both English and Russian. If you can circulate this invitation in other languages, it’d much be appreciated.
Your thoughts, questions suggestions and collaboration in this project are welcome!
If you can submit something for this book, please let us know by email!
Respectfully and in appreciation,
Raffi Aftandelian

nenhum debate nesta lista.

Qume te enviou a tradução? Acho muito bem que se meta
no Wiki.

Dear Harrison,
Your words are really encouraging. When I first knew about Open Space
Technology it seemed to me almost impossible to make it happen here.
Fortunately, soon after I received a request from the local government
to facilitate a meeting with more than 200 people. They were in a rush,
had almost no money, and no idea about how to make people talk in a
short period. I proposed Open Space and they were reluctant at the
beginning. In the end, the ended with a bunch of relevant issues, the
leaders who carried those issues at the grassroot level, and networks
of people around those same issues. Later I was hired by the Chile
Labour Training Agency (SENCE) which was having lots of trouble and
conflict with their clients, to facilitate Open Space Meetings in
several regions of Chile. It worked out so well, that they asked me to
prepare a national Open Space Meeting for the agency's workers. I have
a video on it prepared by them, which I will be glad to share with you.
Bad news are -! it's in Spanish.
It was so different from everything tried before, that my regional
government (Bio Bio Region) asked me to train the members of the
Intersectorial Committee on Citizen Participation (CIPAC) on Open Space
Technology. So I have trained people who now use OST in their
organizations -from Healthcare to Education- as a way of communication
with citizens. As an anecdote, I can tell you that the discussion about
the new Citizen Participation Law in my region was conducted in Open
Spaces with local grassroots leaders -in urban and rural areas alike-.
In the meantime, I have gained a huge experience. I have learned to
care more about certain issues -as the comfort of people in the room-
and less about others. I'm preparing a video and a paper about my
practice, and I hope to have them ready by November. Would it be very
nasty from my part to ask you to revise at least the paper and write
perhaps a stroke or two to begin it with?
It's been a hard way to make gov't leaders believe in transfering power
to the people to voice out their needs and dreams, but it's working
now. Thanks for everything. Thanks for sharing this amazing piece of
methodology with all of the world. Thanks for giving it a philosophy
which I -and many others, I think- can adhere to. I think this is the

amigos,
--
Abraços,
Jean.
ICQ 346054
"A apatia é grande e a crise é geral"
Subject: Re: [EA-Wiki-Iberia] Re: First warning: your group EA-Wiki-Iberia will soon be deleted
