Thanks. It must have originally been an Imperial roll. I have always liked
Burt Franklin rolls. I wish we knew more about him. I'm not convinced that he
and Mal Franklin are the same guy. The few Mal Franklin's rolls and recordings
I have heard sound nothing like Burt Franklin's rolls.

I agree... plus, the photos I've seen of Burt and Malvin look like two different
people. You can see Mal on "Perfessor" Bill's site, while Burt (pictured in the
Billings Rollography) looks like a cross between Henry Lange and Willie
Eckstein, with a pencil mustache.

And of course, Eubie outclasses all comers. Did anyone notice, by the
way, that some of the little riffs and flourishes he used were the same
ones he used in "Charleston Rag?"

The Eubie take on Stars and Stripes is great, but the Burt Franklin version a
nice fun alternate of how to rag a song. I wish there was more of this kind of
stuff. There is a great ragged chorus of Yankee Doodle Boy thrown into the
middle of Pete Wendling's roll of Boy of Mine.
