I havn't used it in about 5 months and worked it pretty hard when i
had it in the studio. Any simple reasons why it won't power up? The
battery might be dead, but that is only for the memory right?
   thanks

Check the Fuse, you may need to replace it.

Don't harvest from a DMX unless it's totally dead! gotta keep those
old Oberheim's alive!

Anyway, a lot of those 80's drum machines (DX, DMX, LinnDrum,
Drumulator, Drumtraks, sp12xx) used that pad for drum triggering. If
you're gonna sacrifice a machine, the Drumulator is the cheapest on
ebay, but only has 5 pads.

First thing is maybe you could clean them:
http://www.electrongate.com/dmxfiles/switch_cleaning.html
(also you might email Paul White at that site: he's a nice guy and
might have spare pads for sale).

Second, you might try these guys:
http://www.winecountrysequential.com/
they sell parts for the Drumtraks and TOM drum machines, and I think
those pads are compatible with the sp.

good luck!

Hi,

Has anyone managed to source spare SP knobs?

They seem pretty basic/standard, can't seem to locate them in the UK though.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Try Forat music out of California.
He does custom work for MPCs and SP1200.

Also VST out of Pasadena, California.

Hope this helps.

no bro only way is to sample at 45 speed from a record or you will need akai
s1100 rack sampler or software that has midi so you could link it together for
$200 or $300 on ebay or get a mpc or asr-10 for long samples

I have used my SP1200 with all kinds of samplers (Z8,Z4)
Akai 3200. It not that I am trying to achieve longer samples.
I want to take some of the drum sample I have from
various samplers and use them
on the SP. I bought a vintage drum machine(Lell UDS it's a Russian drum
synth)that works on triggered sounds. I want to have more of a varitey of sounds
for the SP to trigger the Lell.

You cannot upgrade the memory. It cannot be done. Ram was so expensive back
then. Just consider how much an IBM compatible would cost back then and the ram
it would have.

The SPs OS can only see up to that amount of RAM and they didnt think that it
could expand to more ram cos it was initially intended to be a drum machine like
the sp12 was. They were happy enough to have 10 sec (the sp12 had 1.2sec i
think) and to be able to save it on disk.

Today with the SP1200 youd be lucky to find a replacement floppy drive,
replacement LCD screen and PAD/switch replacements...
