BWV 639 STOP PRESS
CLIVE BELL (Shakuhachi) & SYLVIA HALLETT (Saw) have been added as special guests to AKINORI's London concert. See details below.
AKINORI
Japanese guitarist, composer and sound recordist AKINORI, who this month releases his first album, Red Field, on the Osaka independent label Hören, makes his debut London appearance on Saturday, 5 March. Featuring CLIVE BELL & SYLVIA HALLETT as special guests, the concert takes place at Bethnal Green's The Chapel on the 3rd Floor, Oxford House, Derbyshire Street, E2 6HG (Bethnal Green Tube). 7pm start, tickets £5.
AKINORI 's album encompasses guitar, electronics and an acute ear for environmental sound. The title Red Field refers to Tango, the remote region of Western Japan where he has been living since he started work as assistant to Japanese sound artist Akio Suzuki. It features sleevenotes by British writer and musician David Toop, who writes: "How can we combine these feelings: the systematic pursuit of mastery over an instrument of strings and wood; the open feeling of listening to the complexity of the world? I sense that this is the point where Akinori begins his struggle, this bold choice to hold each of two distinct approaches to sound in his two hands, examining them simultaneously, turning them in the air to experience their individual nature, and the unknown place where they meet."
