hi andy,
i am one of kiku day's (http://www.kikuday.com) students here in london.
there is one flute maker in the uk (john taylor) he can build you a shak but
he doesn't have madagake bamboo at the moment.
i am playing on a 1.8 made by john and on a wonderful 2.3 jiari (no laquer)
made by murai who does many of kiku day's and her teacher okuda atsuyas
flutes (http://www.komuso.com/people/Murai_Eigoro.html). i also have a yuu
that i carry around. it has a good sound and feels good to hold and great to
travel but at the end of the day its not bamboo. if you are in london please
contact me and you can try it out and have a look at murai's flute.
all the best
delmar
