Hello again...
We're pleased to be playing our first ever Scottish show next
Saturday (July 31st), when we headline the End Of The Month Club in
Glasgow!
It takes place at the 13th Note Café, 50 - 60 King Street, where the
entertainment will also include synthpunks Luxury Car, club hosts
Bozilla, video artist Thriftshop XL, 'plastic stuntman' Weevel
Kinhell (!) and something known as Weeble City...?
Admission is just £3, doors open at 9pm and there are more details
on http://www.eotmc.com ... so if you're anywhere near Glasgow that
night, please put it in your diary, and come along and support us!
Thanks...
Also, Sean is DJ-ing twice this weekend:
* Friday 23rd July - DOT DASH @ Asylum, 1a Percy Street, London W1
(playing a Hot Bedfellows set with Lucy from 10pm... expect a rather
noisy set including the likes of Weird War, James Chance and so on -
and it's FREE admission before 10pm!)
* Saturday 24th July - WARM ELECTRO FOR COLD EARS @ The Water Rats
Theatre, 328 Grays Inn Road, London WC1X (before and after live sets
by Schmoof, Vic Twenty and Serge... expect electronic pop by
everyone from Sparks to Rachel Stevens - arrive before 8:30pm and
it's only £3 to get in!)
For more details on both these events, see the flyers on
http://thehotbedfellows.com ...
Anyway, that's all for now - hope to see you soon!

Hello again... just a quick note about a couple of things...
1) "Kitchen At Parties", Wed 23 June
Sean's DJ-ing at this event on Wednesday, at the request of
electropopsters Vic Twenty who are playing live, ably supported by
Hotel Motel and 235.
It takes place Upstairs At The Garage from 8pm and Sean will be on
the decks for about an hour after the live bands. Full details are
on Vic Twenty's site:
http://www.victwenty.free-online.co.uk/page2.htm
2) "Flux" magazine online
In case you missed the Ex-Rental article in issue 42 of "Flux"
magazine, we've scanned it (quite badly!) and put it online, as
issue 43 is probably in the shops by now. If you'd like to see it,
it's here for a short while:
http://ex-rental.com/fluxmagazine42ex-rental.jpg
That's all for now - more soon!

Hello again...
It's a while away yet, but we're playing our first ever Scottish
show in Glasgow on Saturday 31st July, at the End Of The Month club
at the 13th Note Café. More details nearer the time...
Also, Sean's DJ-ing at a one-off London event on Saturday (29th
May), titled "Children Of The Revolution". It's at The Verge, 147
Kentish Town Road, and is devoted to 70s and 80s artists inspired by
David Bowie, Marc Bolan and Roxy Music, such as Duran Duran, The
Human League, Japan, Soft Cell, The Smiths and Adam & The Ants.
Joining Sean on the decks are former Visage musician Rusty Egan (who
was of course the DJ at Billy's and the Blitz club, from which the
New Romantic scene grew back in the early 80s), Valerie Gayrimond
from The Fan Club and Nick Nyro from Upside Down.
There are also live bands including Xerox Teens, though we recommend
arriving early to catch Burningpilot before them - they're well
worth seeing if you like bands such as Wire and Gang Of Four.
The evening runs from 8pm until 2am and admission is £5 or just
£4 with the flyer on this web page (which also includes directions
to the venue):
http://thefanclub.info/children.htm
Hope you can make it along!
Sean and Wendy x
http://ex-rental.com
Hello... thanks to everyone who made it along to see us at the
Islington Academy last week!
We're taking a short break from playing live while we work on new
recordings, but if by chance you happen to be in the mood for some
very un-Ex-Rental old-school indie rock this Saturday (15th May),
you can catch Sean DJ-ing at a one-off event called "Planet Of
Sound".
It's a night devoted to independent rock music from 1987 to 1992 -
the time the Pixies were originally active, to celebrate their
recent reformation. The other DJs are Rory Phillips (Trash, And Did
We Mention Our Disco?), Valerie Gayrimond (The Fan Club, The Dark
Stuff) and Nick Nyro (Dot Dash, Upside Down), and it's at Asylum, 1a
Percy Street, London W1 from 8pm to 2am.
For further details and directions to the venue, see
http://thefanclub.info/planetofsound/index.htm ... expect the likes
of My Bloody Valentine, Sonic Youth, Pixies, Sebadoh, Nirvana and a
complete absence of electronic pop...!
Sean's also DJ-ing at another one-off club night on May 29th, which
will be much more Ex-Rental-like... DJs will again include Valerie
and Nick, plus former Visage musician/Blitz DJ Rusty Egan. More
details nearer the time...
Finally, for a few days only, you can download an excerpt of Sean's
original rough demo of "Don't You Want Me", which was later
performed live at The Fan Club's Human League DVD party back in
October. The demo was never meant for public exposure (hence the
slightly lazy vocals!), but it's just been put online temporarily
for the benefit of a certain group of Human League fans, so if you
want to hear a downbeat piano-led interpretation of the song, it's
here for a short while:

See you soon,

Hello... just a quick reminder that we're playing the all-day
Elektrofest at the Islington Academy (http://www.islington-
academy.co.uk) this Sunday (2nd May).
If you don't yet have tickets, email us at ex-rental@ex-
rental.com for details of how to get discount tickets at £9, as
admission will be a whopping £16 if you just turn up on the day
without tickets!
But do contact us today, so there's time for the tickets to reach
you by post. Tickets can be paid for either by cheque or via
Paypal, so let us know how you'd like to pay and we'll send you the
relevant details.
We'll be onstage soon after the doors open at 2pm, followed by
Schmoof, Xlover, Ju Ju Babies, Seize, Greenhaus, Billie Ray Martin
(ex-Electribe 101/S'Express vocalist), XPQ21, B-Movie and finally
Project Pitchfork.
If you'd like to see some of the later bands, but need a break in
the afternoon, you should be able to leave the venue for a while and
still get back in before 6:30pm, though do check on the day to make
sure.
Also, we're featured in the new issue of Flux magazine
(http://www.fluxmagazine.com) which is out any day now. It'll be
widely available in its hometown of Manchester (at HMV, Virgin and
many newsagents), and it should also be in Borders in London,
Glasgow, etc, not to mention numerous stores throughout the US.
Anyway, hope to see you on Sunday!

Hello... just a quickie...
If you'd like to see a lo-fi video of Ex-Rental's slightly drunken
mauling of The Kinks' "All Day And All Of The Night" at The Fan Club
on April 3rd, you can currently download it here for a limited time:
http://ex-rental.com/news.htm
The file is about 5.5 megabytes, so it may take a while to download
if you're on a dial-up modem. You'll need Windows Media Player (or
other software which can play Windows Movies) to watch it. Many
thanks to Theo for filming it!
Sean and Wendy x

Hello again...
We've just heard that our next show, the all-day Elektrofest event on
Sunday 2nd May, will now take place at the new Islington Academy
(part of the N1 Centre, Upper Street, Islington).
Here's the revised flyer with details:
http://kaosuk.myftp.org/flag/images/flyers/flyer_23.jpg
If you don't yet have tickets for the show, let us know ASAP if you
want to save yourself £5 - £7 and get discount £9 tickets from us by
post!
To order tickets, simply email ex-rental@... and we'll tell
you where you can send cheques (or if you prefer, details of how to
pay by PayPal). Don't delay though... you know what the Royal Mail
can be like!
In other news, Sean's DJ-ing as one half of The Hot Bedfellows on
Friday 23rd May, at the birthday party of Fan Club promoter Valerie
Gayrimond. It's at The Verge from 8pm 'til 2am, with live bands
including ART BRUT, LUXEMBOURG and MY PRIVATE LIFE, though it's well
worth reading this first if you want to pop along:

See you soon, and don't forget those discount tickets!
Sean and Wendy x

Hello... just a quick message to let you know we're playing our
biggest show to date on Sunday 2nd May, when we open the annual
Elektrofest all-day event at The Astoria Theatre, 157 Charing Cross
Road, London.
There are about 10 electronic bands appearing, including Billie Ray
Martin, reformed cult 80s band B-Movie, our friends Schmoof, and
many more, and it runs from 2pm 'til late, with various DJs between
bands, and a chill-out room in case it all gets too much. Just as
well there's a bank holiday the next day, so we can all recover!
Tickets for the festival are usually £14 in advance (even more on
the day itself), but we've secured 50 tickets to sell at the
discount price of £10... or if you're gorgeous enough to be
receiving this email, tickets are only £9!
If you want to get tickets, we'll be selling them before and after
our set at The Fan Club tomorrow evening (Saturday 3rd - see
http://ex-rental.com/news.htm for details), and if you want to get
the additional £1 discount, just print this email and bring it
along (unless we know you personally, of course!).
But if you can't make tomorrow's show, simply email us at
ex-rental@... and we'll tell you how to get tickets
through the mail instead. Don't delay though, as there are only 50
discount tickets available...
Anyway, hope to see you at The Fan Club tomorrow!

P.S. For more details about Elektrofest, see the flyer here:

Hello again, pop-pickers...
This Saturday (April 3rd), it's your last chance to catch us in our
residency at the fabulous Fan Club, so we're going to treat you with
a special 'greatest hits' set. (Well, a set full of future hits
anyway!) We may even throw in a brand new cover version for the
occasion...
Headlining the night will be the slightly insane Sheffield
electronic outfit, Kings Have Long Arms
(http://www.kingshavelongarms.co.uk), whose recent single "Rock And
Roll Is Dead" featured lead vocals by none other than Phil Oakey of
The Human League. You might be in for a little surprise on that
particular song... ahem...
Before us, you can also see Simon Bookish
(http://www.simonbookish.com) at around 9pm, and resident DJ Valerie
will be joined by guest DJs Alex from Luxembourg and Tim Chipping,
former singer of Orlando (whose "Just For A Second" single was
actually co-written by Sean).
As ever, doors are open from 8pm 'til 2am, and admission is just
£4 with this flyer:

All the other details are on http://thefanclub.info - hope you can
make it!

Hello... just a quick reminder of our show at Electrogogo @ Madame Jo
Jo's (8 Brewer St, Soho) this Thursday (18th March)...
We hope to play several songs not heard at our recent Fan Club show,
including the long-overdue return of "All You Need Is" and the live
debut of "Nightclub People [pas sérieux]" from last
year's "Electroclash Volume 2" compilation.
But remember we're onstage very soon after the doors open at 9:30pm,
so please do arrive early if you want to see us!
We'll be followed by further live music by HK-119, and top DJs
including Mark Moore and Alex Silverfish playing modern and classic
electro-disco, punk-disco and more 'til 3am, so it should be a
splendid night out...
Admission is just £4 with a flyer
(http://kaosuk.myftp.org/electrogogo/flyer.htm), and you can find
more details about the club at http://www.electrogogo.com - hope you
can make it!
Sean and Wendy x

Hello... thanks to everyone who came along to our Fan Club show on
Saturday!
For our next show, we'll be returning to the scene of Ex-Rental's
first ever London show - Madame Jo Jo's (8 Brewer Street, Soho, W1).
It's next Thursday (18th March) and we'll be playing as part of the
fabulous Electrogogo club night, hosted by resident DJ Mark Moore,
who you may know as the mainman behind techno-disco legends,
S'Express.
The club's open from 9:30pm to 3am, but we'll be onstage almost
immediately after the doors open, so do arrive very early to avoid
disappointment and beat the queues!
We'll be followed by a new artist called HK-119 (described by
Electrogogo as a diva in the style of Grace Jones meets Nina Hagen),
and then the DJs will be playing top quality electro-disco into the
small hours (possibly including one or two of Sean's remixes for
other artists, some of which have featured in Mark Moore's recent Top
10 playlists... ahem...).
Anyway, admission is £5, or just £4 with a flyer, which you can
find on http://www.electrogogo.com, along with details of the club's
location, etc.
Hope to see you there - bring your dancing shoes!

Hello again,
We're back at The Fan Club on Saturday (6th March) for the
penultimate show of our residency there.
We'll be debuting a new song, charmingly titled "The Death Of A
Thousand Disinterested Chattering Fashionistas", and will be joined
by Kinky Disco, The Vichy Government and The Vanities.
This will be our first show as the new-look duo of Wendy and myself,
following Jess's departure to explore new musical avenues (our very
best wishes to her with that), so we hope you can make it along...
we'll be onstage at around 9pm. Full details of the club and flyers
for cheaper admission are on http://thefanclub.info ...
Also, keep these dates free if you can: Thursday 18th March,
Saturday 3rd April and especially Sunday 2nd May (in the afternoon),
as we've some rather special shows coming up. More details soon!
Sean x
http://ex-rental.com
Hello again, and thanks to everyone who came to see us at "Getting
Away With It" last weekend... hope you enjoyed it as much as we did!
Our next show will be on March 6th, but before then, Wendy and I
will be DJ-ing together at The Fan Club's Valentine special on
Saturday 14th February.
Given the theme of the occasion, we'll be playing a special set
featuring only songs that have "love" in the title. Don't worry,
we're not playing any mushy ballads!
As well as the resident Fan Club DJs, there'll also be a set from
Strange Fruit's Paul Haswell, plus live music from Luxembourg,
Riviera F, Coco Electrik and My Private Life. We'll be DJ-ing
directly after the bands, so be there before 11pm if you want to
catch us. Full details on http://thefanclub.info ...
Also, the very first Ex-Rental recording ever made, "Professional
Assistance", is set to appear in a new Canadian TV movie
called "Prom Queen", which we like to imagine will be something
like "Pretty In Pink" but with a fairly major difference in the
romance department. Not that we want to give away the plot, of
course. (Someone from "Kids In The Hall" is in it, if that means
anything to you...?)
But anyway, we thought this would be a good time to unleash two VERY
different mixes of the song by The Guy Who Invented Fire, which you
can now download from http://ex-rental.com/news.htm for a short
while. The original version is also there, if you want to remind
yourself how it sounds... and you probably will after hearing
these less-than-radio-friendly deconstructions! (Thanks again to
TGWIF, if you're reading!)
Finally, if anyone missed the download of my remix of The Human
League's "Empire State Human", it's now available here for a little
while longer: http://www.league-online.com/jan04.html
OK, that's all for now - hope to see you on Valentine's Day!
Sean x
http://ex-rental.com
Hello... there are a couple of things you might like to know about
our Saturday show at "Getting Away With It", which couldn't be
mentioned in the last email...
1) We can now reveal that the secret special guest DJ is David
Walliams, the co-star of Matt Lucas in the fabulous BBC comedy
series "Little Britain" (and also "Rock Profiles"). David's a huge
fan of Pet Shop Boys, The Smiths and New Order, and was keen to DJ
with us, but wanted it to be a low profile appearance, which is why
he's not mentioned on the flyers, etc. By all means, tell your
friends, but he'd appreciate it if his name doesn't start appearing
on public message boards, etc... ;)
2) Neil Tennant has given David a world exclusive remix of the Pet
Shop Boys classic "West End Girls" to play on Saturday... hear it
there first!
Anyway, for all the other details and to print flyers, see
http://thefanclub.info/getaway.htm ... hope you can make it!
Sean x
http://ex-rental.com
Hello again... OK, as promised, here are the details of our next
show...
We're headlining with a short set at "Getting Away With It", a
special one-off night celebrating three related bands - Pet Shop
Boys, The Smiths and New Order.
It's happening this Saturday, 31st January at The Verge, and we'll
be supported by The Reflections and Subculture.
I'll also be DJ-ing as one half of The Hot Bedfellows, as will
Valerie from The Fan Club/The Dark Stuff and Nick from Upside
Down/Dot Dash... and one or two guests, possibly including a certain
familiar face from... um... I'm not allowed to say! ;)
Ex-Rental will be onstage around 10pm, and the DJ set will probably
follow at around 11pm (tbc). Admission is only £4 with a flyer,
which you can print from http://thefanclub.info/getaway.htm (it's
£5 without a flyer) and it should be a great night.
By the way, we're taking a short break from our Fan Club residency
in February, so this is probably our last show until March.
Also, my Human League remix will be moving from http://ex-
rental.com/esh.htm to another website very shortly, but it's still
there as I type if you want to download it...
Anyway, hope to see you on Saturday!
Sean x
http://ex-rental.com
Until further notice, my remix of The Human League's "Empire State
Human" is available to download from:
http://ex-rental.com/esh.htm
It may well be gone by the time you read this (sorry if that's the
case), but it doesn't look as though Virgin are ever going to
release it, and I'd like to give you a chance to hear it! So be
quick...
More news of our Saturday 31st January show coming soon!
Sean x
http://ex-rental.com
Hello, and a happy new year to you!
Ex-Rental are kicking off 2004 with one last show at The Fan Club
before taking a short break from our residency there. We're playing
this Saturday (3rd January) with Xerox Teens and Kilo C, and we
should be onstage around 9:30pm.
As ever, admission is just £4 with a flyer printed from
http://thefanclub.info and there'll be a guest DJ set from Sue Denim
(Robots In Disguise/Iamx). We'll be playing one or two songs you
may not have heard for quite a while...
And if you like The Human League, make a note in your diary for next
Saturday (10th January), when I'll be putting on a special Human
League-themed night to raise funds for Cancer Research UK.
It's upstairs at The Enterprise (opposite Chalk Farm tube in
Camden), and I'll be DJ-ing most of the night, along with some
special guests, including music writer/DJ Simon Price (Stay
Beautiful) and hopefully a certain other person, who must remain top
secret, as he's very busy next week and isn't 100% confirmed yet.
You may well recognise him if he's there... ;)
It's all for a very good cause though, so do pop along - full
details are on http://blindyouth.co.uk (see the link on the front
page).
Oh, and if you haven't downloaded our version of Always On My Mind
from http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Ex-RentalNews/files/MP3/ yet, be
quick - it's only there until the 5th of January...
Anyway, hope to see you both this Saturday and next - all the best
for 2004!
Sean x
http://ex-rental.com
Hello... OK, it's time we gave you, our gorgeous mailing list
members, this year's exclusive Ex-Rental mp3 for Christmas!
This year, it's our cover of "Always On My Mind", as debuted at the
last live show, and it's the first ever recording anyone's heard by
the three of us together.
It was mostly rush-recorded just before the last show (so it's a
little rough in places... ahem), but it's quite different to the
famous versions by Elvis, Pet Shop Boys, etc.
To download it, you just need to sign in here:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Ex-RentalNews/files/MP3/
And then click on the mp3! If you have any trouble downloading it,
let us know, as the mp3 will only be online for a fortnight or so...
Also, if you want to read an interview with Sean and Wendy, there's
one in the new issue of Intellectos Records' online magazine. To
read it, just click the 'magazine' link on
http://www.intellectos.com and then click on the Ex-Rental picture.
And don't forget we're back in the New Year for a January 3rd show
at The Fan Club (http://thefanclub.info) - full details will appear
on http://ex-rental.com/news.htm soon...
Happy holidays,
Sean, Jess and Wendy x
http://ex-rental.com
Hello again... thanks to everyone who came to see us at The Fan
Club's PSB party on Saturday!
You might like to know that the 'Christmassy' number we ended
with, "December (dubious end-of-term disco mix)", is now on the
website until the end of the month.
It was previously released on the Bath-based Purr Club's limited
edition 2002 Christmas CD, "Gold, Frankincense And Purr", but as
that's now rather hard to find, we thought we'd make an mp3 of our
contribution available over the holiday season.
You are warned though - it's a full-on Christmas eurodisco number,
with sleigh bells and chimes! But if that doesn't scare you, you
can download the song from here:
http://ex-rental.com/mp3.htm
Watch this space for the now-traditional mailing-list-only mp3 we
always give you at Christmas!
By the way, our next live show will be at The Fan Club on Saturday
3rd January - more details on that when we have them.
Also, although I can't be at Upside Down this Friday (12th), my Hot
Bedfellow partner Lucy will still be DJ-ing there, so if you're in
the mood for some quality disco tunes, do pop along. For details,
see the flyer at http://thehotbedfellows.com (where you might also
notice something of interest if you're a fan of The Human League)...
Sean x
http://ex-rental.com
Hello again... just a couple of things:
1) THIS SATURDAY...
First, a quick reminder of our Fan Club show this Saturday (6th
December), which is part of a Pet Shop Boys party to tie in with
their new hits compilation, "PopArt".
We're preparing a suitably electro/pop-oriented set for the
occasion, including a rather special new cover version, plus the
long-overdue debut of "December", as featured on the Purr club's
2002 Christmas CD, "Gold, Frankincense And Purr".
Other bands playing are Trademark and The Pictures (ex-
Kenickie/Rosita), and there are DJs through 'til 2am, including The
Fan Club's Val and Andy, Alex from Luxembourg, and myself (probably
just an early set before we play live).
Do arrive early though - before 9pm if possible, as we're on earlier
than last time, and it's likely to be a busy night, due to all the
PSB giveaways (CDs, t-shirts, etc)!
For more Fan Club details, see http://thefanclub.info/about.htm ...
and there's a flyer at http://thefanclub.info/dec6psbsiteflyer.jpg
for £4 admission...
2) ..."I WANT TO BE SEXY"
Also, US indie/electro duo Winterbrief have just released their new
album, "Tickets For A Peek", which features my 'bikini overkill mix'
of their "I Want To Be Sexy". (Er, yes, that's me singing about
Christina Aguilera on it... ahem.)
I may well play it at The Fan Club, but you can find out more at
http://ex-rental.com/remixwb1.htm in the meantime...
Anyway, hope to see you on Saturday!
Sean x
http://ex-rental.com
(now rather easier to use, at last)
Hello again... lots of news this time...
* NEXT LIVE SHOW: Saturday 6th December
Our next show is at The Fan Club (http://thefanclub.info), and the
evening will be a special night devoted to the new PET SHOP BOYS
singles collection, "PopArt".
As well as numerous PSB giveaways courtesy of EMI Parlophone,
there'll also be live music from THE PICTURES (featuring ex-Kenickie
bassist Emmy-Kate Montrose) and others (to be confirmed).
We recommend arriving early though as it'll probably be a busy
night, and we hope to play a couple of songs live for the first time
especially for the occasion. You can now print a flyer for reduced
admission from http://ex-rental.com/fl061203.htm and we'll let you
know full details nearer the time...
* YET MORE DJ-ING
I'll be DJ-ing as one half of The Hot Bedfellows this Saturday
(22nd) at Warm Electro For Cold Ears. We're on before and between
the live bands SCHMOOF, FREEZEPOP and SHANTY, and they'll be
followed by DJ sets by legendary bootleg mixers FRENCHBLOKE & SONOF
and then DJ DOWNFALL. Full details on
http://thehotbedfellows.com/warmelectro.htm ...
Then I'll be returning to Upside Down (solo this time) on Friday
28th, for more classic disco action and suchlike. See the flyer for
details at http://thehotbedfellows.com/upsidedownflyer.jpg ...
* SCARY NIGHTCLUB PEOPLE
Finally, you can now hear a tongue-in-cheek mock-'electroca$h' track
recorded last year, on a new US CD, "Electroclash Vol. 2" (Mogul
Electro Records). It's possibly the most preposterous thing we've
ever done and you'll be forgiven for wondering whether former member
Lucy and I were on some very strange drugs when we recorded it!
But if you *really* want to hear it, the song is called "Nightclub
People [pas sérieux]" and the CD is available from
http://electroclash.com/release_ec2002.php ... you have been
warned!
Also, you can now buy the Ex-Rental vs Carol Masters remix upon
which "Nightclub People" is based ("Love And Dancing [Nightclub
People] (electroca$h disco mix)"), on Carol Masters' new double
CD "Re:Mastered", available from http://www.souvenirrecords.com with
other remixes by Life Without Buildings, Soviet, Goteki and Mesh, to
name but a few.
And if you want to hear a *really* weird avant-garde deconstruction
of this track, you can now download "Nightclub People (kill the
floor mix)"... but we accept no responsibility for any nightmares it
gives you or your loved ones. If you're feeling brave, login at
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Ex-RentalNews/files/MP3/ to download
it...
(If you do hear any of these versions, don't worry - we're very much
back to normal now... honest!)
Anyway, that's quite enough Nightclub nonsense for now - hope to see
you at one of the events above!

News just in...
You might like to know that notorious bootleg mixer Soundhog has
prepared a special 30-minute DJ mix for London's XFM, which is being
broadcast on Sunday (9th November) and will feature part of his remix
of our "Sophie's Audition", which has yet to be released.
Soundhog's mixes are always well worth a listen (you might know his
mix of Adina Howard's "Freak Like Me" and Mansun's "Take It Easy,
Chicken"), so tune in to The Remix between 7pm and 9pm on Sunday for
a bit of a treat! More details on the XFM site (where you can also
listen online if you're not near London):

Hope to see you at the LSE on Thursday!

Hello again,
Thanks to everyone who came along to our new line-up's first show on
Saturday... despite one or two technical hitches, we think it went
pretty well! Hope you enjoyed it too...
* NEXT SHOW: THURSDAY 13 NOV WITH LUXEMBOURG + BOY GENIUS
Your next chance to see the new line-up is next Thursday (13th Nov),
when we play at The Quad at the London School of Economics, on
Houghton St, London WC2.
We'll be opening for LUXEMBOURG and BOY GENIUS, with music between
bands courtesy of DJs from The Fan Club, and our set will probably
be a little darker and less electronic than usual.
Admission is only £3 if you bring a flyer (you can print one from
http://ex-rental.com/fl131103.htm) or an NUS card, drinks will be
cheap because it's a student bar (hurrah), and doors open at 7:30pm
(we're on first).
By the way, if you're not sure where the LSE is, there's a link to a
map on http://ex-rental.com/news.htm ...
* NEXT DJ SET: FRIDAY 14 NOV @ UPSIDE DOWN
I'll be DJ-ing with ex-Ex-Rentalist Lucy again next Friday (14th
Nov), at a rather splendid-sounding new night named Upside Down
(after the Diana Ross/Chic single), which is dedicated to classic
disco sounds and suchlike.
It's open from 10pm 'til 3am at Pitch, 30 Lisle St (near Leicester
Square), admission is £4 with a flyer (which you can print from
http://thehotbedfellows.com/upsidedownflyer.jpg), and we're on from
11pm 'til midnight. Arrive early and bring your dancing shoes!
Hope to see you on Thursday...

Hello again,
Thanks to everyone who came to see us at the Fan Club's Human League DVD
party, and sorry to anyone who couldn't be there for our one-off cover of
"Don't You Want Me" with Sarah from Schmoof.
Anyway, there are two big nights out happening this week...
* EX-RENTAL BECOME A THREESOME THIS SATURDAY
The third show of our Fan Club residency is this Saturday, 1st November,
where Jess and I will be joined by new recruit Wendy Sargeant (vocals,
keyboards, percussion). We're headlining again this time, so be there by
10:30 to see the new line-up!
We hope to play one or two rarely-heard songs for the occasion, and the
other live bands include BASCHI (from Switzerland) and XEROX TEENS, after
which there'll be all the usual great music until 2am, and you can print a
flyer from http://thefanclub.info for bargain £4 admission.
* BOWIE NIGHT THIS FRIDAY
The previous night at The Verge (Friday 31st October), I'm also helping to
put on a special Bowie night, entitled "Scary Monsters".
I'll be DJ-ing with former Ex-Rentalist Lucy, along with SIMON PRICE (Stay
Beautiful), PRESTON & KITTEN (Glam-ou-rama), VALERIE GAYRIMOND (The Fan
Club) and NICK NYRO (Dot Dash), with live music from LUXEMBOURG, EYE and
MY PRIVATE LIFE (all of whom will play a David Bowie song among their
own).
It should be a great night out, so if you want to avoid trick-or-treaters
this Friday, you can find full details on http://scarymonsters.info ...
OK, that's all for now - hope to see you this weekend!

Hello again... there's a couple of things happening this week...
----------------------
Thursday (2nd October)
----------------------
I'll be DJ-ing with former Ex-Rentalist Lucy at Chic To Chic, a
new "disco-soul-Motown-funk" night (which also plays the likes of New
Order, Japan and Daft Punk) at 13, which is on Gerrard St, London W1.
It runs from 9pm to 5am, and admission is *free* before midnight
(£5 afterwards), which is handy as we're on at around 11pm... see
http://www.freewebs.com/chictochic for more details...
----------------------
Saturday (4th October)
----------------------
Jess and I are headlining the official party for the new Human League
DVD at The Fan Club (The Verge, 147 Kentish Town Rd, London NW1).
We'll be playing an especially electronic set for the occasion, which
may include a surprise new cover version... and if so, this might be
your only chance to see us play it...
Before our set, there's comedy from self-styled "Byronic Lord of Pop"
Gary Le Strange (winner of the 2003 Perrier Comedy Award for best
newcomer), plus music from Trademark and Subculture.
I'll also be DJ-ing later in the evening, as will top music writer
Simon Price (http://www.staybeautifulclub.co.uk).
As usual, you can get into the club for just £4 with a flyer,
which you can print from the Fan Club's website at
http://thefanclub.info ...
If you're coming along (and we hope you are!), please do arrive early
to ensure admission... Virgin Records have promised numerous Human
League giveaways for a prize draw after our set, so the club's likely
to be busy!
Hope to see you there,
Sean x

Hello... thanks to everyone who made it along to the first night of
our Fan Club residency on Saturday...
We now have confirmation of the full line-up for our next Fan Club
show on Saturday 4th October, which will be a special Human League-
themed night to tie in with their new "Very Best Of" DVD:
EX-RENTAL
GARY LE STRANGE
(winner of Best Newcomer, 2003 Perrier comedy awards)
TRADEMARK
SUBCULTURE
I'm also DJ-ing later on, as is Stay Beautiful DJ/music writer Simon
Price, who interviews The Human League on the new DVD.
There'll also be a prize draw on the night, so you might go home with
a special Human League giveaway, courtesy of Virgin Records... and
you know that can't be bad.
All the details of the club are on http://www.thefanclub.info and it's
a good idea to arrive early, as it's going to be a busy night.
Admission is only £4 with a flyer (see the news page on the
website for one of these)... and we might even play a surprise song
in our set too, which we may never repeat...
So, hope you can make it!

Hello again... thanks to everyone who braved the heatwave to see us at
Strange Fruit recently - you deserve a medal...
Well, we're very pleased to announce that Ex-Rental have been invited
to become the new resident band at The Fan Club
(http://www.thefanclub.info) for the next six months!
If you've seen us play there on previous occasions, you'll know it's a
great night out - not only will you get to see us play on the first
Saturday of each month, but there'll also be two or three other up-and-
coming bands playing, plus DJs with very good taste through 'til 2 a.m.
And there's no chance of it becoming repetitive, as we'll be playing
very different sets each month, so you'll get to hear a lot of songs in
various styles over the six months, and we hope to debut something new
at each show wherever possible.
So, if you want to catch the first date of our residency, it's on
Saturday 6th September at The Verge, 147 Kentish Town Road, London NW5
(there's a link to a map on http://ex-rental.com/news.htm), where we'll
be onstage at 9pm.
Other bands appearing are Luxembourg, My Private Life and The Vichy
Government, and admission is just £4 with a flyer (there'll be one on
the website soon) or £5 without.
We're also about to record a song for a forthcoming Fan Club
compilation CD, which should appear early next year... more details
when we have them...
Anyway, hope to see you soon! Take care,
Sean x

Hello again - thanks to everyone who made it along to the Warm Electro show
last week!
If you missed it, fear not, because we're playing again on Saturday 9th
August at the splendid Strange Fruit club night, Upstairs At The Garage
(near Highbury & Islington tube).
Also playing are headliners Motormark, who recently supported Bis on their
farewell tour, and there are of course DJs the rest of the evening, from 8pm
'til 2am.
It's only £3 admission with the flyer at
http://www.strange-fruit.co.uk/FLYER.htm (once it's updated for August!), so
it needn't break the bank...
By the way, if you're looking for something to do *this* Saturday (2nd
August), I'm DJ-ing between 11pm and midnight at Dot Dash, formerly known as
Woofers 'N' Tweeters, at The Net Bar, 38 Hanway Street, near Tottenham Court
Road tube.
This too is only £3 admission, and you can find out more about it on the
flyer at http://ex-rental.com/disco.htm (click on "Dot Dash")... quality
music guaranteed...
I should also be DJ-ing briefly before the Strange Fruit show, at the
Notting Hill Arts Club, in an experimental set which will see The Hot
Bedfellows in a showdown with sonic manipulator Jeff Cloke between bands.
Who knows what will happen! See http://www.snaregirl.com for details...
Anyway, hope to see you at one or more of these events! Take care,
Sean x

Hello, just a quick reminder that Ex-Rental are playing at the Warm Electro
night at The Water Rats Theatre, Kings Cross this Thursday (24th July).
You can find full details at http://www.warmelectro.freeuk.com , but in
brief, we're on sometime between 8:30 and 9pm, before Schmoof and Trademark,
and just after the mysterious Dennis Hopper Choppers (!).
And I do recommend getting there early anyway, as it's only £3 admission
until 8:30 (£5 afterwards). By the way, Jess and I will be debuting a brand
new song, recorded just this weekend, so be among the first to hear it -
it's pretty good!
Hope to see you there,
Sean x
