Hello all Yahoo group members....
I'm building a page for the group on MySpace...
Check it out...
The link is.....
http://www.myspace.com/experimentalproduct
I have no HTML experience so building the page is slow going...
Inserting music/video players is like rocket science to me...
They must assume everyone has had a HTML coarse in high-school...
MySpace offers no advice other than "ask a friend"... ;)~
I'm running my Mac G4 in a PC world there...
MySpace offers nice features so I see my attention moving there,
leaving this group on Yahoo as is...
New news.....?
I am in contact with a label that deals in vinyl projects...
Vinyl-On-Demand
So Experimental Products re-issued on vinyl may soon be available...
Again..... thank-you all for your good taste in music....
and.... may you all "Glow" in peace.... ;)~
yours truly.... Michael Gross
Hello all members.....
I am now successfully transplanted in Spokane Wash.
(300 miles east of Seattle)
My cross country drive was, thank-goodness, uneventfull...
I am now preparing my new space for synth-studio set-up...
and... work on possible new releases...
I hope you all are well...
and... Glowing bright....
yours truly....
Michael Gross
-after an iTunes binge, I have even more Tangerine Dream to listen to.
-I just picked up more samples for Reason, but who knows when I'll get to that.
-I've also been eyeing VJ Software, but time, time, who has time? Send me some. Didn't stop me from picking up some hours of synthetic video loops...............
obviously, I still scatterbrained.. even with the new meds... (!)
Hello to the group...
I have plans of moving from Philly...
To... Spokane, Wash.
Strike up the band....! Woh hooo...!
Thoughts on driving 2500 miles across the country...
Dragging a U-Haul trailer...
Brings out the pioneer spirit in me...
"Oh God....! What am I doing....!
I'll never make it...!"
I'll let you know if I make it...
Or at least how far I got...
yours truly....
Michael Gross
bleep.... bleep... click... buzzzzzzzzzzzz...
So, everyone can pester Michael now. I really never had the wiring in
place to transcode to CD or post on the internet.. just never wired my
stereo into my computer.
I forwarded to him the live at City Gardens tape
(Prototype era.. he probably gave it to me when I first met the group,
as the flip side has rehearsing/learning Glowing on it...)
and a live on XPN from the post release of Glowing "trio years" with
Mike Simmons on keyboards and drum machine, featuring a few a Mike's
compositions. Mike has just wrapped up the recording of the second CD
of his current band, an Americana group.. whose name unfortunately
escapes me. They achieved some European listing as "top ten
import/favorite" on some listing, and are playing in the Philadelphia
area.
This tape features the only known live (on the radio) recording of
Glowing.
On other notes, the live acoustic Patrick Moraz "PM in Princeton" CD I
produced a decade ago is strongly rumored to be re-issued on a European
label for general release. I'll let you know when it's real. I'm just
waiting for the papers, but you know these things, they can take
months.
By that point, maybe Michael and I will have individually released new
music (!)
Michael - you once forwarded me a link to someone who had a bootleg of
all the ExProd on a CD.. I'd love to be able to import it into my
iPodworld....

Hello....
I've added a link to the LINKS section...
It's called MINIMAL-WAVE...
I highly recomend a visit...
Simple sign-in allows posting... ect...
It's operated by Ms. Veronica from East Village Radio...
Lots of electronic band info... ect...
Including Experimental Products... ;)~
MG
My vinyl 12" single collection just would'nt feel complete
without a copy of "You Spin me Round"...
I "aquired" it from an old girlfriend, mint condition... ;)~
Most of DoA 80s 12"s are also in my collection....
YSMR is an icon Hi-NRG song...
I appreciated it's short chord sequences..
Bass synth of course... big drums... and..
It's campy swagger...
A hard song to try to cover...
Pulling it off without feeling a bit "golden oldie" is tough.. ;)~
It is a great "pop" song that sizzled dance floors...
The vocals are really busy... They need energy...
It's too well known to monkey with...
( never say never...?
I do however...
appreciate DOA and Ex Prods sharing sentences... ;)~
A few clubs now in Philly kinda have a Kennel Club feel...
and... they most likely have 80s nites...
But... live acts are rare... and...
they sometimes lack the multi-room/level spaces to roam...
(dark spaces to spin webs and snare unsuspecting prey...)
Three cheers for the Kennel Club...
Hazzah...! Hazzah...! Hazzah...! ;)~

Do they gush about Michael Gross on the Dead or Alive fan sites?
You know, I always thought Mr. Gross could've used a little Botox in
those lips of his.
They just weren't pouty enough for me!
Øystein, you are right, let's nix the Dead or Alive postings and keep
the talk focused on
the Products. :-)

Hi,
Regarding this:

>BROTHER
I think we can safely assume that Pete Burns and Dead or Alive have their
own yahoogroup or yahoogroups, as well as at least one official website and
a good few fansites.
Assuming furthermore that Celebrity Big Brother will manage to forward their
information to whoever is interested in it,
I would REALLY appreciate it if we could discuss the band Experimental
Products here from now on, and not those other topics PLEASE!
Kind regards

`Dick Clark's `So You Think You Can Dance' to use "You Spin Me Round"…
The upcoming Dick Clark Productions Series `So You Think You Can
Dance', a 13 episode series of amateur contestants competing to become
America's favorite dancer, have requested the use of the Dead or Alive
song "You Spin Me Round (Like A Record)" as a title to be used in the
casting process. We sub-publish "You Spin Me Round" via our deal with
Westbury Music (PRS) catalog.

ah.. the Kennel Club..
I remember visiting Philadelphia (I had long since moved away and
forgetting the downtown)......walking down a street and suddenly
realizing.. this is where it was... the Kennel (!).. and all those
nights were spent!

It's Official! Mark your calendars!!!
"You Spin Me Round (Like A Record) 2006" re-release on January 30th
and the re-issue/re-promotion of that VERY popular DEAD OR ALIVE
collection is scheduled for February 6. So many new & die-hard fans
are looking forward to the 2006 release! !!! For more details, go
to: http://www.deadoralive.net
There has been so much talk and demand for a re-release of "You Spin
Me Round" in the U.K. (and soon the U.S. too) and now it's going to
be re-released. Many critics are already speculating that a re-issue
could bring the single back to the charts as a #1 Hit all over
again. Even The U.K. I-tunes site has "You spin me round" listed 3
times at: http://www.thekhans.me.uk/stuff/iTunes.php
I am sure you have heard about all the recent news in the U.K.
regarding "Celebrity Big Brother" and Pete Burns of Dead or Alive. Go

Be sure to keep checking The Right Stuff (The `official' DEAD OR
ALIVE Website) for more details about these upcoming releases.
Hello,
please excuse me when "abusing" this web site to tell you that there
is a new label called ANNA LOGUE RECORDS specialized in early 80's
electropop. The first release was a vinyl album by CAMERA OBSCURA
called "Horizons of Suburbia" and actually it is from 1983 and anyway,
it not too far away from Prototype. So, if I have arisen some interest
in the label's work please visit their web site at
www.annaloguerecords.com - there is more to come!!!
Btw, Michael, how about the unreleased material from back then ?!? :o~
Thanks and love,
K

As someone who has listened to a lot (but not all) of Tangerine Dream
(and Mark Isham, Ralph Towner, Yes, Segovia)
over and over and over and over...
the first two pieces are
AWESOME.
Thank you. This is great stuff. The best yet.
Now the vision of genius returns. You and Mark really, really had it.
Had it.
THANK YOU, THANK YOU.
This is HOT, HOT.
As someone once told me "years ahead of its time". Now I see the
bigger picture.
and now into a rehearsal GITD.... I always liked live/"alternate"
versions......
Now about that narration stuff.. well, even Ray Thomas has retired from
the Moody Blues... last I was in Vegas I saw a billboard for the
remaining three....see Patrick.. you could have had a nice, nice
retirement and yearly revenue.. if things hadn't gone to sh*t between
you all. I keep on hearing Moodies on music/stores/radio.. they (Justin
and John) must still be pulling in the royalties........Oh well, stuff
happens.
I remember when people were simply gushing over Laurie Anderson.. OK..
and where is she...?
(Well, I thought Burning Flames and the other song should have been the
next EP, but what the f do I know.....)

Heh Mike, I don't recall your email offhand. Thanks for the discs. I
think I gave you the only copy of the Glowing in the Dark and Love
Changes video all those years ago.
If you are circulating these, at least give me some credit (!)
Heh, but if such is the case, and you are posting rehearsals, etc. I
should send you the Live City Gardens, the Glowing in the Dark early
rehearsal with Mark when I was first meeting you guys, plus the XPN
show. I've had a number of personal email requests but simply didn't
have the time/technology to burn CDs... ok.. I have a G5 and an audio
cable.. just don't have the freaking time to do that.
I have duplicate tapes as well as the originals. I'm a bit....err..
slammed with the reality/fallout of recent events... but mailing
shouldn't be too hard.
Don't think I'll make it to Philly for a while...or be traveling on
what used to be my part time corporate staging business (I'm a bit of a
basket case...and have no child care lined up yet, etc. etc... maybe
next Spring.. but have to tend to Crystal's craft business..... time
will tell.....)
Well, one of my sisters lives in Philly, and Mike Simmons and wife came
to visit for several hours one Monday recently (they have family in
NH). I have been in contact with Don Slepian
see
www.donslepian.com
who still says c'mon down to my new studio and let's do something
together. I have a video somewhere of him and Patrick Moraz jamming on
grand piano together, as well as Patrick playing Don's custom personal
touch sensitive midi keyboard (with pedals and attack one
gets.....different instruments.. now isn't that a rather....grand
mechanism of expresssion.)
and wrote a note to Larry Fast last night
http://synergy-emusic.com
I'm on the verge of asking for a benefit concert.. but my professional
(business meetings) crowd in NYC and DC are curiously....silent....
I have misplaced Rick Wakeman's email and home phone.. but then again..
he did get divorced for what.. the third time? I dunno. He'd be good
for a lot of prayers, and is a grand man who is professional and
sincere. If I didn't tell you, Crystal was onstage with Rick in Mass.
for his sustain pedal bit during his one man show tour about 2 years
ago. Someone sent me CDs and I have a picture of Crystal on stage...
but she was always an Elton John/Pavarotti type gal with some metal and
new age and other bits thrown in. She would say that people would come
to her place and think her CD collection was two different peoples.
I took her to her first rock concert when I had a gig in Toronto...
Roger Waters solo tour.... freaking awesome musical performance. They
played Pink Floyd better than Pink Floyd. (I would like to get a
recording of his first --?-- solo tour that supposedly had Eric Clapton
on guitar....??!!!) She saw all the smoke in the crowd and said.. is
this legal here in Canada? I just laughed and laughed.. she had never
been to a concert before.. her time in NYC was taking clients to
"Cats".
We did go see Elton John for his recording of "one night only"... we
went to see Aida the night before... and lo and behold... his guitarist
was behind me, another band member in front of me, and Elton himself
one row askew across the aisle. It was pure NYC...at the end of the
intermission.... Elton came in last with his security and the crowd
simply stood up and gave him a "standing ovation." A real highlight in
a wonderful full life she had.
Let me tell you a personal story about this some other day.
The wife of the Phish drummer stopped by when I was at Vermont Sheep
and Wool. He had bought her a high end spinning wheel the year before
and they are getting rid of their alpacas before a planned move.
I hope to write some more music.. have been listening to various early
and mid range Tangerine Dream and am reminded our your solo/our pairing
of "Experimental Cafe" -- now there is something obscure... some of the
settings/riffs seem so familiar.. I know it is coincidence... but, as
they said..if Einstein wasn't out there.. someone would have thought of
it sooner or later... there is amazing paralell-ness in this world.
Did I tell you some guy wrote from Princeton and said he worked with
Mark approx. 1982?????
Anyway, this is much better than being all worked up over her death and
absence.. it is a brutal transition.. a long time of grieving... I'm
getting the piano tuned approx November.... I just pulled out the 49
(?) key midi keyboard the other day.. and of course Billy found it this
morning....I really haven't delved into Reason 3.0.. I have lots of
cryptic notes on music (I sketch ideas with lines and dots....) and
certainly a vast pool of emotions to tap into.
a former employee of mine who now teaches piano in Georgia is stopping
by after Christmas. His Russian piano teachers commented on Patrick's
wild fiery grand piano "PM Live in Princeton CD"......this.. this is
what the SCHOOL GIRLS played in music school... hahhahahahah.....talk
about egos... Patrick is off the freaking chart passion and notes....
Crystal had set him up with 1-2 weeks of a gig in New Hope, playing the
national anthem for the Eagles AND the Phillies within one week, plus a
gig in Boston.. an interview with the Inquirer....and his PR/publicist
was whining that she hadn't gone through HIM.. Patrick had to bow out
due to.... family matters...but did get to his opening gig with Annie
Haslam of Rennaisance (sp?) in Phila. I think I've only
corresponded/talked once with him since. Apparently he is currently in
Switzerland......talk about wild geniuses!!!!!!! He was my idol...
Patrick was all about passion and collage....Rick is all about absolute
classical technique (he is amazing on acoustic piano, and Patrick is
too, in a completely different way).....two opposite sides of the piano
coin..
I could go on, but this is the top of mind stuff. They tell me to keep
a journal for Billy someday... like I have the time....but I will
certainly treasure the above moments.... thanks again... for the
memories... and the flow of emotions that we realized in both
Experimental Products and Experimental Cafe. It was a real pleasure and
experience..and a lot else too!

Hello to all members.....
I've up-loaded an MP3 file...
In the Files section.... MP3 folder.....
LoveChanges84.mp3.....
Live Experimental Products practice recording...
Mark Wilde...
vocal, Pro-One(bass-seq), MT-30(chords), CR-8000(drum-M)
Michael Gross...
SH-101(click), Poly-Six(lead synth)
CR-8000 synch driving Pro-One and SH-101 on board sequencers...
An early practice recording of the song "Love Changes"...
(First track on the b-side of original "Glowing in the Dark" 12")
Recorded before or near the time of record release.... 1984...
Recorded to cassette directly by a "room mic"....
Microphone picking up our practice monitors...
So.... vocals are low in mix... performance is loosy-goosey...
Listeners familiar or un-familiar with the 12" version may find
intrest in the track dispite the low quality recording...
A raw glimpse at Experimental Products working on ideas...
I hope it entertains you....

Hi Michael,
I only bought the Source from you and then I waited until analog synths
were back in fashion (acid house years: 1988-1990)
and sold it for twice the amount. It had no knobs for twiddling for
christ sakes! Wish I did purchase the MS-20 from you, but you didn't
offer it to me.
Maybe it was already gone and replaced by the DX7 (most folks were
kicking themselves years after buying those things).
You still have that Korg Poly-Six?
And you are right. "Spin Me Round" did lose its luster after the
millions of plays.
It sounds horribly dated now and incredibly stiff when compared with
contemporary electronic music.
Unlike GITD which still sounds great after 20 years aside from the
low-fi production.
I was hoping you'd audition as the new singer of INXS, but a karaoke
version of SPIN ME ROUND (in drag) would suffice.
Maybe next time I'm on the East Coast.

Hey,
I'm glad you posted this because I've always thought that Michael Gross
looked like Pete Burns
from Dead or Alive. He just didn't have the hair or the lips. And the
folks at Club Revival in Philadelphia (1980s) told me about the
Ex-Prod 'queen-scenes' aka temper tantrums, but I wasn't present for
any of them.
Michael: Any chance of a 'You Spin Me Round' cover version? Maybe you
could pull those synths outta the closet and hire Stock, Aiken, and
Waterman (those guys need work these days) to get on it.
