Hi Edward,
a phase difference of carrier and modulator can make a big difference on the
sound. I'm just too lazy turning on my TX802 right now, but on the FM7, when
having a typical simple FM Modulator->Carrier connection, you can heare a slight
difference on every key press when having Operators in "free run" mode...
The difference in sound is slightly easier to determine when you're having a
Synth with a phase parameter for every operator like TG77, Octopus or Operator.
Since you can try different phase combinations on every operator or even every
harmonics...
So what is it good for: On the TX802 probably only for a littel more diversity
on
for instance pad sounds...
What is it bad for: Bass Sounds tend to sound different on every keypress when
operators are on free run...
