Hi folks,
As Jon mentioned, there is still no complete recording of
Henze's "Elegy for Young Lovers" or "Elegie fuer junge Liebende" in
the translation by Ludwig Landgraf (Ludwig, Prince of Hesse) that
premiered in Schwetzingen in 1961 with DFD as Mittenhofer. DG did
reissue the "Scenes" with DFD and the Berlin (?) cast on CD, but it's
no longer in print.
I have tried to Google the opera to see whether it is still being
performed, but what I came up with is very meager:
March 2008 -Theater Luebeck with Gerard Quin as Mittenhofer
April 2007 – Naples Teatro San Carlo with Wilhelm Reischmann as
Mittenhofer
May 2004 – Berliner Staatsoper with Andreas Schmidt as Mittenhofer
1998 – Wiener Odeon with ?
March 1997 – Birmingham Sinfonietta (concert version)with Quentin
Hayes as Mittenhofer
1996 – Juilliard Opera Center (student production) with Michael John
Zegarski as Mittenhofer
1988 – Tanglewood (concert version) with Perry Ward as Mittenhofer
I should think that Andrea Schmidt would have been very good as
Mittenhofer, and it seems like it would be a good role for Matthias
Goerne.
