Description
The Greek Mezzosoprano Agnes Baltsa is one of the greatest mezzosopranos of our time.
After her debut in Frankfurt as Cherubino in 1968, Agnes Baltsa very soon made her debut at opera houses all over the world. Among her wide repertoire, roles like Carmen, Eboli (Don Carlo), Hérodiade, Santuzza (Cavalleria Rusticana), Fedora and Isabella (L'Italiana in Algeri) are only a few that distinguish her as one of the most celebrated singers of today. Not afraid to break new grounds in her career, Baltsa recently added a few new roles to her repertoire: Fidès (Le Prophète, Vienna 1998), Despina (Cosi fan Tutte, Zurich 2000), Kundry (Parsifal, Madrid 2001), Kostelnicka (Jenufa, Vienna 2002), and most recently Klytemnestra (Elektra, Tokyo 2004), a role she will also sing during the Vienna 2006-2007 season..
