Seems like OB-12 synthesizes audio @ 24 bit, 96 khz or at least outputs it, I looked at the signal coming out of spdif. This eats much more processing power...
I doubt it is possible for anyone to develop new firmware for the OB-12 at this stage. I also think there would most likely be quite a number of factors...
