I just got back from Madison. Phew! I wasn't going to post my thoughts
until the morning, but i saw the other post and it motivated me to
make a hasty post. I could not disagree more with the other person's
thoughts. I was just considering whether or not this was the best I've
ever seen Greg. That's always a tough call, I've seen him 15 or so
times, and I don't think I've ever been disappointed.
The opener was Bo sitting in for a sick Dave Alvin. Never seen Bo on
his own before, so that was a nice treat. But on to Greg. Stood the
entire time, with Bo and a bass player who also sat in on Bo's set.
Greg was really into the solos, and frequently crouched at the knees
for added emphasis. They really jammed well together on Dream City and
Down at the Mill. And his outfit was, of course, pleasantly
ridiculous. The setlist follows, but my personal highlights were No
Place Away(as an opener!), Like a Dog, Ella Mae, Sleeper(with a new/
different verse), and Love Sick was so perfect. I could go into more
detail, but bed calls. Really great set.
No Place Away
Treat Each Other Right
Love Sick
Like A Dog(complete with howl)

The encore was a Merle Haggard cover, which I didn't know. I'm
guessing it might have been titled Pray, pray or something like that.
