Greg & Bo at the Birchmere Alexandria VA, 7-19-08   Message List

Good show tonight at the Birchmere, but it seemed a bit short (don't
they all, though!) and we were out by 10. Not a really rocking sort of
audience, but appreciative. Bo did a short set to open - never heard
him in such sharp and lively form and stretching and twisting like a
slinky. Love to watch his slide. I even caught a quick glimpse of him
sans hat and glasses. He started off with Rollin' and Tumblin', I Don't
Know, Side Track Lounge, Get Away, Long, Long Time, and Burn it Down.

Greg came in with a written set list and opened with Waitin' On You,
Bucket - "original title rhymed". Then halfway through Down At the Mill
a string popped, but he managed to get through the song with a little
adjustment. I believe he said it was unusual for a 4th string to go like
that. He said his guitar was a little moody and maybe he'd been hitting
it a little too hard. He got Bo to do a song while he went off stage to
make a repair - Bo did 555x2.

Greg returned and played Driftless, One Wrong Turn, Kokomo, Joy Tears
(with harmonica), Pound It on Down, Little You, Small Dark Movie, Son
House's Preachin' the Blues, Treat Each Other Right, Whatever It Was,
Home in the Sky, and encore - If I Had Known. He didn't do any requests
- written or otherwise. Highlight for me was probably Home In the Sky
which I've never heard him perform.

Greg seemed in good spirits - didn't talk a lot, but did a nice little
promotion of Bo's cd's where he described the kind of party that could
be livened up with Bo's music - the kind of party that just sort of sits
there like a toad - great image. He also told the story about being
invited to join a fishing group party at night and then being pressured
to bring his guitar and sing for a couple of hours. Said he started
with Pound It On Down and everyone went to bed.

Fashion Report from the top down: seed cap-like hat with Mountain Lake,
Sloan Iowa badge on it, 2 gold hoop earings, large sunglasses, red
bandanna knotted around the neck, black tank, great big square silver
and turquoise ring, Levi black boot cut jeans with spur cuts in back,
and some kind of black slip-on shoes with caterpillar like tread going
back up the heel towards the ankle.

Wish these were better stories, but the music was great even if the
report's a little dull!

Thanks for the review, Nancy. A written set list? Really? That is very unusual. Joy Tears with the harp!? Wow! I would love to hear that one. What/whose is...

Greg had a set list Friday night, too, I'm told. Home In the Sky should have been titled My Home In the Sky. It's on Iowa Waltz. Nancy...
