There was an unfortunate last minute cancellation of our show last

night at the Boulevard Tavern in Los Gatos. This was the first time

in the long history of the band that this has happened. We are very

In Other GLRBR News...



Many of you have been asking where's "Hawkeye", and who is the new

guy on guitar?



Well, "Hawkeye" is still in the fold. He is just taking a step back

and focusing on his song smithing right now. You still may see him

make a guest appearance with GLRBR from time to time. Ya just never

know when.



The "new guy" is none other than Bay Area favorite Aaron Shock. GLRBR

is very happy to be working with Aaron and think you will find

his playing style just right for the band.



Here is a bit more about Aaron.



Born in San Jose, CA, Aaron wasted no time getting his musical chops

together. Starting with piano lessons in grade school, he progressed

through stints in drum and bugle corps, youth choir and in 1984 was

introduced to the guitar.  Later in high school, he pursued

experiences in the marching band, theater orchestra and jazz

ensemble. After high school he began to pursue the dream of being a

rock star, developing his skills in improvisational rock/fusion music

with a variety of local bands. Later in college, he again delved

into jazz ensemble and also introduced himself to the realm of

bluegrass mandolin. Aaron has attended school at Blue Bear School of

Music (San Francisco, CA), Fort Lewis College (Durango, CO), Colorado

School of Mines (Golden, CO) and University of Kansas (Lawrence, KS).



After college, Aaron returned home to the San Francisco Bay Area and

immediately began the pursuit of new musical opportunities. Having

subsequently played/recorded with such artists as Becca Sutlive,

Corduroy Jim and Jellibone, he continued to develop a broad spectrum

of musical understanding and experience.  After a couple of years,

Aaron finally found himself at home mixing musical ideas with the

Goodlife Rhythm & Blues Revue.



Some of Aaron's influences include singer/songwriters the likes of

James McMurtry and John Hiatt, guitar greats such as Mark Knopfler

and Danny Gatton, and jazz legend Thelonious Monk. Aaron has played

at many venues around the San Francisco Bay Area and Santa Cruz, from

local favorites such as Moe's Alley to larger arenas such as

Shoreline Amphitheater. Though he maintains a love of energetic

public performance, it is also those quiet moments alone with his

trusty six-string that help drive the train of his musical journey.

And though he plans to continue composing, recording and performing,

he also hopes to someday pursue teaching, the art of acoustic

instrument building, and his continued passion for organic gardening.

Fund Raiser for Former Resident Luthier



Bill Chapin is a talented luthier who has created many very fine

guitars and has made guitarists happy from San Jose to Europe and

Asia. Bill has also had a few runs of bad luck. While living here in

San Jose Bill's shop was broken into several times and many

instruments and equipment were stolen. Each time he fought back,

reopened his shop and pushed forward with creating guitars for people

with the desire to truly get what they want out of a custom shop

guitar. After the most recent break-in and theft and with a desire to

find a less expensive place to live Bill moved his family to Canby,

Oregon.



On April 19 Bill had one more run of bad luck. The city of Canby's

telephone company was working close to the natural gas lines by Bill's

home and accidentally broke one. They evacuated Bill and his wife

while their son was at school. But unfortunately a fire ball blew

through Bill's house and work area leaving him and his family homeless

and him without a place to exercise his craft. Another part of the

tragedy is two firefighters were also hurt.



There have been donations from Bill's followers and we are now trying

to help out by having a fund raiser for the Chapin family. JJ's Blues

Lounge has opened their doors and given us a venue to have local

musicians get together, have an open jam session, and help raise money

for Bill. We hope you will come down and enjoy an afternoon of music

in honor of Bill and his family. Door donations will be $10.00. All

door donations and anything else you feel you can give will be donated

directly to the Chapin's.

On Sunday, October 14th 2007 GLRBR will be putting on their Harvest

show at Henflings Firehouse Tavern. The band over the last year has

seen some lineup changes and we have been working hard to bring a new

evolution of the band to the stage. Our newest member is Bassist

Ron "RJ" Pitchford. Ron hails originally from Southern Illinois but

moved west about 10 years ago and has found his way into our little

music camp. Susy Boyd will be handling most of our vocals now with

Ron Tomasello stepping in on a few tunes. We can't tell you how great

it is to have a fine new vocalist join, someone that can really carry

the band and play her instrument with such passion. On drums we have

Kris DiNoto with Ray Hauck handling the rhythm colors and textures on

percussion. Steve "Hoedown" Hunt will be coming down from his Western

States ranch in Zayante to handle the Hammond and keyboards duties

plus helping out on backing vocals. Mr. Aaron shock will be laying

down his beautifully woven guitar parts, he will also be playing

close to home with his short jaunt down from lovely Lompico. Aaron

also handles backing vocals. We have a few new tunes we are doing and

we're continuing to rotate in new and old favorites all the time. The

crowd and energy at this mountain venue is unmatched by any in

greater Bay Area and we've always had a great time playing here.

GLRBR & Idlewild West, on October 28th 2009, will hold a special concert in

memory of Duane Allman and Berry Oakley of The Allman Brothers Band, at Moe's

Alley in Santa Cruz, CA. We hope you will join us in this night of music.



Idlewild West will perform a show based around the material and arrangements The

Allman Brothers Band played during those first few years they toured. Special

Guests Goodlife Rhythm & Blues Revue will open the night with a 45 minute set.
