However, if you contact him, I know he has them. :-)
Hi All! Just got back from Gary's show in Monterey. Nice sized
crowd and very appreciative too which made the night very special.
The videographer says the taping went great and Gary said the
recording sounds awesome, even better than he had hoped. I'll be
posting some photos on the site in the next couple days for you all
to see. Gary's got a few more gigs coming up so I'll keep you posted
on those as soon as they are confirmed.
We are also working on getting a track on the new Melodicrock.com

Beauty is before me, and beauty behind me,
Above me and below me hovers the beautiful.
I am surrounded by it, I am immersed in it.
In my youth, I am aware of it,
And, in old age I shall walk quietly the beautiful trail.
In beauty it is begun. In beauty it is ended.

Gary Moon – "Still Moon"
Re-released on Ventana Records in 2002
The Band
Pete Comita
Curley Smith
Gary Moon
Gaylin Walker
Steve Isham
Track By Track
1.) "Still"-This track kicks off with a huge adult orientated rock
lead scale. The musical arrangement for the verse uses keyboard,
bass, and drums as the main instruments. The vocal lines of the
verse are a lot like the pop songs of the mid-eighties. There are
huge backing vocals on the chorus. Gary also incorporates a simple
laid-back electric guitar riff for the chorus. At the end of the
chorus there is a very little guitar harmonic section. The bass line
changes a little for the second pre-verse. If Gary is overdubbing
his vocal lines of the choruses on this track then I can say he has
one hell of a range. The solo keeps the same feel has it did through
the intro.
2.) "Heart of Stone"-This track opens with a heavy metal lead scale.
The guitar arrangement of the verse has a very catchy feel to them.
Vocally Gary sounds like any number of eighties metal bands. Gary
really shows his vocal ability on his vocal screams of the vocal line
on the verses. The bass and drums lock into a solid rhythm section
on this track. The rhythm arrangement changes for the breakdown and
solo section. The solo was very short and very intense.
3.) "State of the Heart"-This track kicks of with a keyboard
arrangement. From right off you can hear the musical hook.
Musically and vocally the verse of this track reminds me a lot
of `Contraband'. Through the verse there is a backing harmony
section, which really adds to the dynamics of the song. The chorus
is very melodic but does not nearly as big of a hook as the verses
do. Vocally this is one of the tracks that really shows Gary's vocal
ability. The bridge builds with intensity for the up and coming
solo. They end the track with a few small lead scales.
4.) "Alayna"-This track opens with a very melodic lead scale. The
twelve-note drum pattern gives this track a real nice sound. The
chorus has a real cool little lead guitar rhythm backing it up.
There is a twin guitar solo, which was a great idea for the song
because of the song being so short lyrically.
5.) "Music Box"-This track opens with one of the best musically
sounding intros I've ever heard. The vocals of the verse sound
turned down and very distant. The verses have an echoed vocal effect
at times. Which gives the vocal lines a haughting sound. I really
liked the musical arrangement for the pre-chorus. There is no solo
and the song is really powerful enough it doesn't need one.
6.) "Call of the Wild"-This intro and vocal line of the verse have a
huge 38 Special feel to them. The band drastically changes the
direction of the song for the chorus. The backing vocals of the
choruses give the song a real thick feel. All in all the song is
pretty straightforward. The breakdown section has a marching effect
drum pattern.
7.) "Queen of the Damned"-This track opens with a drum fill along
with a very standard eighties rock guitar pattern. The keyboard
arrangement of the intro fills in a lot of the dead spots. The vocal
lines of the verse really express Gary's vocal talent. For the
chorus the band changes the rhythm arrangement. For the second verse
there is a small lead solo with scattered lead scales through the
vocal lines. The musical arrangement really changes for the
breakdown solo section with an acoustic guitar pattern. The main
solo is very intense and suits the song very well. At times the
musical and vocally arrangement of the song is very similar to
Autograph.
8.) "Can't Help Falling in Love"-The intro of this track opens with a
hard-hitting drum sound. The musical arrangement is very laid back
with a melodic feel. Vocally the vocal line builds with power as it
progresses to the chorus. Also vocally this track really shows the
many vocal talents of Gary. The band set the solo up perfectly. The
only down fall is it was too short.
9.) "Angels Don't Lie"-This track opens with a very subtle picking
electric guitar pattern. At times the arrangement reminded me of
some of Bon Jovi's b-side material. The chorus vocally is a little
draggy but has one hell of a bass drum pattern. Musical the song is
written and arranged in a very classic rock style.
10.) "One Love"-This track opens with an eighties style guitar intro.
The vocal lines of this track have Gary singing in two different
distinct vocal sounds. On one of those sounds Gary sounds a lot like
the vocalist from Dangerous Toys of the early nineties. The chorus
has a very huge hook within it. You can really hear the background
vocal overdub of Gary's vocals on this song. The solo for the song
was a lot shorter than I expected.
11.) "Love in a Wicked World"-This track kicks off with a very cool
slide riff and lead guitar scales. The main guitar patterns and
vocal lines of the verse are very laid back. The song arrangement is
songwriting 101. The solo was set up and done in a very modern 38
Special style.
Gary Moon should be considered a legend. You just do not play
with such acts as; Frank Zappa, Three Dog Night and Night Ranger
without being one talented musician. "Still Moon" is a collection of
songs re-issued that are songs that he recorded with his former band
The Pack. "Still Moon" is eleven tracks of pure melodic rock.
Vocally Gary has one of the best vocal ranges around. If your into
bands like 38 Special, Jeff Paris, and other groups of that vein.
Then you'll love "Stll Moon".
For shits & giggles I set up an on line radio station thingy. I really have no
idea what I am doing but it sounded like a good idea at the time.
Check it out & let me know what you think.

From the Classic Rock Newswire:
1. What are you currently up to? (e.g. touring/studio,etc.)
For the last two months I have been up in Northern California in
pre-production for my next CD. The working title is "MoonBridge".
I'm recording with Stan Lockwood at his Studio "Starflight" in Pebble
Beach,California. Stan and I are also finishing arrangements for the
band to comein and start laying tracks which should take us through
June. Shows arepending at this point in Los Angeles, San Francisco
Bay Area and Las Vegas.
2. What has been the highlight(s) and lowpoints(s) of your career to
date?
I am happy to tell you that I don't have any "low points" to give you
except when I have a day when I am "not" working on my next CD.
3. Who have been your main musical influences?
Here are a few...
David Crosby of Crosby Stills Nash and Young.
Led Zeppelin.
The Beatles of course.
I am really inspired by some of the new artists in the last couple of
years that have gone back to writing a "good song" that can infuence
people's lives. I am always being inspired.
4. 'Still Moon' - what are your own personal highlights on this album
and why? Do you prefer to write with other writers or in a band
environment?
It took me a couple years to find the best players to create "The
Pack". It was the most fun I have ever had playing live. And I think
that's captured in this record. I really prefer working with writers
that are going to be performing these songs. When I have players and
songwriters involved with creating these songs that I have searched
my heart and soul with I'm really excited with the outcome. The songs
come alive and they start true to their meaning or *light* if you
will. I guess you can say that I really enjoy working with other
influencing spirits.
5. What was the best career move you ever made?
The best career move that I ever made was joining my friends in Three
Dog Night. For just a couple years, I did more than two hundred shows
and I realized how important it is to have a good song and that
changed my writing structure for the positive. I can really see the
difference in my writing when I did the Night Ranger record "Mojo"
from what it was before.
I feel I have taken it to a higher level on this next CD and I am
excited for you to hear it.
6. Night Ranger - how did you come to join the band? Why did the line-
up only last for one album, the excellent 'Mojo'?
During my period with The Pack in 1989, I was approached by a friend
of mine who knew Brad and Kelly. They were wanting to bring Night
Ranger back in to the studio and reclaim the harder rock sound they
were known for earlier in their career. I came to a session and
jammed with Brad and Kelly and it was magic. I thought it was in my
best interest to become a partner with a group that had a following
to further my plan to get my songs out to my fans. Brad and Kelly
loved my songs so we went out as Night Ranger, did the Mojo record
and toured for three years and I am still really proud of that record.
7. You sang on Brad Gillis's solo album 'Alligator'. Will you be
working with him on his new solo album? How do the two of you
approach composing a song?
Brad and I will always be connected musically and he is one of my best
friends. We have been working off and on on new material for a Moon
Gillis projects to come. On the Allligator CD, Brad was busy and I
was busy so we set up a system where he would send me 20 song ideas
musically and I would pick and choose, write melodies and lyrics. I
would fly up to his studio and we would lay the song out and so far,
every song hit home with both of us.
8. Anything else you would still like to achieve musically? What other
artists would you like to work with?
I am currently *so* inspired! All the music I have been doing lately
has just FLOWED out of me so naturally and so well. I can never see
an ending path that I could take, other than to break through to what
I feel is the best that is in my heart and soul. I am working with
great artists right now on this record "MoonBridge" I can't see any
further than that. But I look forward to where this will take me.
There seems to be a lot of really great things happening just below
the surface in my career right now. It should be interesting where
it goes.
9. What has been the highlight of the live shows you have done? Any
bands/artists you would like to tour with in the future?
As far as lives shows are concerned, I would have to say after
rocking as hard as I can rock, I love breaking down the band to an
acoustic version of the songs. The fans love that. Some night half
way through my next tour, I would love to have everyone that I have
recorded with up and do a half a dozen songs that would blow them all
away. Kind of like what I did at the Gods Concert in England two
years ago.
10. Message to your fans...
I am so grateful for your patience! I know how important it is that I
stay true to myself and the music, as this is also staying true to
you.
In this crazy world we live in right now, I believe we all should
participate in any way we can for peace. I really believe that.
Thank you so much for your support! I won't let you down...

GARY MOON - STILL MOON
Ventana Records
Some of the songs on this album I believe were recorded for a
proposed deal with Atlantic Records when Moon's band went under the
moniker of The Pack, the songs never got released, but over the years
Gary has made a name for himself in the industry working with the
likes of AOR God Jeff Paris and of course Nightranger! going on to
record the album "Feeding Off The Mojo" with them. Finally Gary Moon
has released the songs under his own name and I for one, except for
one or two songs thoroughly enjoyed "Still Moon", which often crosses
all style of AOR and hard rock. Had it been released years ago I feel
it could have achieved a degree of success.
The album gets underway with 'Still' which is a pretty good AOR song
that reminds me of Nightranger and Jeff Paris. Next is 'Heart Of
Stone', this song is much better, lots of hot guitar hooks, the song
has a heavier edge which reminds me of Winger's "Battle Stations"
crossed with Cinderella, very catchy hard rock with great vocals from
Moon. 'State Of The Heart' is next, and opens in a sprinkle of
keyboards, again this is strong AOR ala Jeff Paris, you'll be signing
along to this one, great stuff.
'Alayna' is safe AOR which reminds me of Nightranger, Von Groove and
Cinderella, good chorus. Then we hear the song which Gary wrote for
the "Feeding Off The Mojo" album. 'Music Box', pure melodic rock,
nice keys and good strong vocals, I actually prefer the Nightranger
version though.
Next is 'Call Of The Wild' which opens up with a strong drum kick,
this song is brilliant, very catchy AOR reminding me of Bon Jovi,
Jeff Paris and Von Groove, strong melodies the lot. This is followed
by another Von Groove, Cinderella sounding track called 'Queen Of The
Damned', great chunky guitars hooks and keyboards, very anthemic song.
'Can't Help Falling In Love' is a rocking "shout it out" style power
ballad built for stadiums, very AOR and very catchy with strong
lyrics. 'Angels Don't Lie' is more melodic based, an excellent song
with nice keys and great vocals from Gary, his voice almost reminds
me of Richie Sambora on this track. 'One Love' is melodic AOR at it's
best, catchy chorus thats a bit Bon Jovi and Cinderella sounding
during the chorus. The last song 'Love In A Wicked World' is more
melodic rock, again reminding me of Bon Jovi and Nightranger and ends
the album on a rocking note, very catchy indeed.
This is a fine album indeed, lots of great catchy songs which hit the
feel good spot from the first listen, coupled with a good production
sound, so if you enjoy any of the aforementioned bands then you will
love this album, go on treat yourselves.

GARY MOON - Still With The Pack
The material on your new CD "Still Moon" is a collection of songs you
did in the late 80's with a band named THE PACK. Can you tell us
please more details regarding this band?
Gary Moon: "The Pack was Pete Comita, Curley Smith, Gary Moon, Gaylin
Walker, and Steve Isham. The Pack originally was Moonsparks and when
Chris Sparks left, I called Matt Sorum and he turned me onto Curley
and that's how it started. Curley knew Pete from his stint with Cheap
Trick and Gaylin was just some young kid that I found cause I was
looking for a guitar player. Steve Isham of course was in Autograph.
Steve had seen me play in San Diego when I was in 3 Dog Night and
that's kinda how The Pack got together.
The songs never got released cause we couldn't agree on a record deal
with Atlantic Records. After about 4 or 5 offers, it still wasn't
right and by that time, we were running out of money. Then I got a
call from Brad and Kelly form Night Ranger and they wanted to know if
I'd come and do a jam with them. I didn't know who they were at the
time but I thought it might be fun. So we jammed and we hit it off
really well. After the jam, they offered me an equal partnership in
Night Ranger. I needed the money and the magic was there so The Pack
got put on hold. I always believed in the songs on Still Moon and I
knew someday, I'd record them myself or with another band. And as
you know, I did. With Night Ranger we did "Music Box". However,
the "Still Moon" version is the original version."
Can you please give us some "track by track" comments on the songs
of "Still Moon". Just three of four sentences about the history of
each track...
Still - "Still was written about my belief in never giving up. About
my dream of being successful as a songwriter/performer. I put a love
twist on it but really the song was inspired by me telling myself not
to give up."
Heart of Stone - "It's funny a lot of these songs have a lot to do
with what was going on in the music business at the time. Some
artists kinda bow down to record companies and I always tried to keep
my integrity by being stubborn. So I always tried to keep a heart of
stone about it. Don't tell anyone but inside I'm really a softie."
State of the Heart - "A song written by Curley with Pete Comita. It
was written again about how everything could really be a lot better,
if you just had an open heart and an open mind and kept moving
forward towards your dream."
Alayna - ""Alayna" was a song written about a dream. I had this dream
about this girl and I never really saw her face but I had to give her
a name. It was one of those ultimate dreams that you just never
forget."
Music Box - "Another song inspired by a dream. Having a music box
made with an original song on it to give to my lady so that she could
play it while I was gone for months at a time to comfort her. It was
my gift to keep us together."
Call of the Wild - "Pete Comita wrote this with Curley. It was
really based on being a young, wild guy, sowing your oats and
sometimes you just feel like you have to go over the edge a little to
taste the freshness of life. Sometimes this call of the wild comes up
and bites you in the ass though."
Queen of the Damned - "Based off of an Anne Rice book. It was
inspired by the book of that same title. Curley had read it and wrote
the song."
Can't Help Falling in Love - "This was all me. It really is about the
soft heart I was talking about that I have. I believe in love and
when I'm drawn to it, I melt like butter."
Angel's Don't Lie - "Written about a piece of highway between
Monterey to Big Sur in California. A friend of mine told me that the
first time you drive it, it's so beautiful that you'll think an angel
came down and touched your eyes. And when I drove that 28 miles, when
I got there, I truly believed that angels don't lie."
One Love - "God, what a stupid song. It was just a stupid song that I
wrote when I thought that the one that you fall in love with needs to
have the same heart as you do. I've realized since I've written that
song that everyone is an individual and that two hearts really are
better than one. So there's the twist on it."
Love in a Wicked World - "It's about how material things in life can
put blinders on you from seeing things that are more important. As
soon as you give up those material things, you realize there is a lot
more to life than something you can hold in your hand."
As you said, the song "Music Box" did already appear on the "Feeding
Off The Mojo" album you did with NIGHT RANGER. How did the song make
it on the NIGHT RANGER album?
"When I was writing songs for the Mojo record, this was one of the
first songs that Brad & Kelly had heard from me. It was a favorite of
everybody's and we played it live a lot. When we started recording,
we refused to do the record unless the song was on there."
"Still Moon" gets released via your website only. Wasn't there any
label showing interest in the album? I mean the album would be
perfect for the roster of many of European Melodic Rock labels...
"You know, we got so many requests for this CD, just request after
request after request that we decided to just re-release it for the
fans. And basically, we wanted total control over it. We wanted to
keep it in its original form essentially. I didn't want some record
company to repackage it and have it re-recorded or whatever. We
wanted to keep it the way it was envisioned. However, we are still
open to world-wide distribution if the deal is right. But we will
keep independent if that's the way it works out."
Something I am really fascinated of is your voice which shows so many
different styles. I hear Richie Sambora, Billy Idol, Axel Rose, Brian
Johnson, and many others in your voice. How the hell do you do that!?
"Well, before I knew what my true voice was, I had played so many
club shows as a teenager, singing anything from Led Zepplin to James
Brown that I just seasoned my throat to the point that I could sing
like that 24/7 and it never bothers me. It's always been versatile
and strong."
Did you do any changes (remastering, re-recordings) to the original
recordings of the 80's???
"We only remastered the recordings. Other than that, the recording is
the original."
I heard about a Gary Moon song called "Thousand Bridges" and was
surprised it was not included on the "Still Moon" CD. What has
happened to this track?
""Thousand Bridges" is part of a whole string of new songs that I've
been writing for the last 2 years and it will be on my next CD."
I heard you are currently working on a new Brad Gillis album, right?
What can we expect from this album? Classic Melodic Rock stuff as you
did on the NIGHT RANGER album?
"We started to work together and it was going to be a record that was
equal parts Brad and equal parts Gary. We've been so busy with other
projects that it's on hold for now."
Are there any other projects you are currently working on?
"Yes, my "Thousand Bridges" project. I have about 22 songs right now
and of those, I'll pick 11 or 12 of em to put on the CD. I'm
recording right now, as we speak, and my goal is to have this CD
released by the summer. Then I'll start to tour on it."

Andrew @ melodicrock.com gives Still Moon an 85%. Here is the main body of
the review....
Still Moon is the long awaited release of the original demos from the band
Gary fronted called The Pack. The band were nearly signed to Atlantic Records
5 times!
The band recorded an album - or a rough album as Gary describes it, that was
never finished and never released - until now.
Under Gary's name, 11 of the songs recorded appear here. Whatever form they
were left in, Gary has remastered and tweaked them to what is presented here
- which sounds pretty damn good to me.
Any fan of Gary's voice is going to love this. His tone and style is distinct
- that raspy melodic delivery is unmistakable and lends itself perfectly to
melodic hard rock.
The style of this album is a mix of straight up groove laden LA hard rock a
la 1990 and a moody, more mature melodic sound, with a very commercial ring
to it.
Tracks like Heart of Stone are pure hard rock, with Gary's raspy scream
dominant. Then on State Of The Heart you get a more keyboard friendly AOR
along the lines of Gary's role in Jeff Paris' band.
Gary also fronted Night Ranger on their underrated Feeding Off The Mojo
release. The band used an updated version of the track Music Box for that
album, Here it's actually a moody and intense acoustic track.
Gary continues to work with Brad Gillis on his Alligator solo album. The
style of that release is reflected again here.
Call Of The Wild is a perfect melodic rock anthem, with a big chorus and
Angels Don't Lie is another classy mood-rocker.
The quality of the songs is above average for demo's - the sound is
consistent throughout and highly listenable.
The Bottom Line
Simple really - if you own and enjoy Night Ranger's Feeding Off The Mojo
album, Brad Gillis' Alligator release or Jeff Paris' Wired Up, you need this
album!
That qualifies you as a Gary Moon fan and the material here is close to the
styles employed on those releases. It's a little rough around the edges, but
it's thoroughly enjoyable, very classy and a great lost archive release.

We grow great by dreams. All big men are dreamers. They see things in
the soft haze of a spring day or in the red fire of a long winter's

waiting for Flash to load! Feel free to check it out. New pictures
have been added and of course, "Still Moon" is now available in the
store of the site.
Enjoy!
Greetings all! Sorry for the long delay in information but at long
last, the re-release of Still Moon is finally available! And while
the store is still being assembled at garymoon.com (it should be up
this weekend), you may get yours earlier by sending a check to:
Gary Moon Music
PO Box 1155
Topanga, CA 90290
CDs are $15 (+ $3 shipping) and as a special bonus to this group,
autographed if desired. Please include your email address along with
your order if you want it autographed.
In other Moon news, Gary continues to work on new material up in the
Bay area. His plans with Brad have seemed to move to the back burner
since they both have been busy with their own projects. Gary is
trying to put a set and a band together to do some local touring with
songs from 1000 Bridges, Still Moon and others. However, nothing
finite yet on that.
Cheers!

We grow great by dreams. All big men are dreamers. They see things in the soft
haze of a spring day or in the red fire of a long winter's evening. Some of us
let these great dreams die, but others nourish and protect them; nurse them
through bad days till they bring them to the sunshine and light which comes
always to those who sincerely hope that their dreams will come true.

Still waiting....(Sigh! ) Seems like I've been waiting forever! Some days it
seems more illusion than reality, after waiting so long. Beth

will be a little bit of new stuff, Alligator stuff and NR stuff,
according to the MoonMan. He said they went in and did a few jams at
a couple of clubs up there and the magic is still there.
Anyway, as usual, still waiting on "Still Moon." ::sigh::
Have a great day!
