This group is dedicated to the Glass Armonica (or Glass Harmonica, but not realated to the familiar mouth organ), which was invented by Ben Franklin in 1761, all but disappeared by the 1830s, and was recently revived by glassblower Gerhard Finkenbeiner in 1982, of which there has been a small, but growing interest in this unique instrument, with perhaps 20 active armonicists worldwide, and more taking up ol' Ben's bowls! :)
This forum isn't intended to focus on newageisms, mesmerism, Freemasonry, or similar topics (although not discouraged, either), but for the appreciation of a very unique instrument, perhaps the only significant instrument that embodies all five Elementals to play- Earth, Fire, Water, Air, and Heart.
Music discussed won't be limited to Colonial/Baroque-period classical, or to Celtic folk, but to any music where the Armonica is performed, including contemporary pop music.
Discussions may not be limited to strictly musical topics, but discussion concering aspects of the Armonica are greatly encouraged.
This group is _not_ intended to compete with Glass Music International, an excellent Armonica enthusiasts' organisation, which is subscription-based, but is intended to serve as an open forum for the discussion of the Armonica for those new to, curious about, or studying performing the Armonica. We are also unafilliated with www.glassarmonica.com or www.finkenbeiner.com, though we do recommend these sites.
Feel free to peruse this groups Bookmarks section - Perhaps the largest index of armonica/glassmusic links on the net!
The usual ettiquette rules apply- Please be kind to all.
