Howdy Glen's friends,

That's not everyday than a great country CD came from Australia and,
more surprising, from a kitty. Working as publisher of the long
established « Big Beat Of The 50's », The Australian Rock and Roll
Appreciation Society's magazine, Christina Louise Dicker took her
guitar to make rock those Kangaroos and Possums. 100% raised on
wildlife, fresh like a garden spring vegetable, she bring to us an
unique style with her own compositions.

Back to the true 50's format of 10 inches records, that CD showcase
only 7 songs but all from her own pen. No time wasted or fillers on
that record that will make you « Get Up & Go ».

Produced by Geoff Peterkin, the Cd open with « Fallin' In Love With
You », a real downhearted country ballad with the beautiful lap steel
guitar of Rick Dempster and perfect piano work of Mark Nunis. That
first song sure make me fall in love with Christina and drinking too
much and driving too fast. « Cuttin' Loose, Cattin' Around » is a
boppin' song with the perfect slapp bass work of Guy Lawson and
strong vocal. « Diggin' It, Daddy » slow the tempo and bring back the
steel guitar on a bluesy ditty. Even if 3.37 minutes long, that song
goes as smooth and steady than a cool Hot Rod. There's more Country
Blues in Christina's voice than on many American singers soul.

« Low Down & Dangerous » bring the rarely heard Blues Harp played by
Rick Dempster. The accoustic guitar is greatly played by Libby
Langford. Another great Bluesy song … « Dyin' With You » borrow some
to the classic « Fever » with a jazzy guitar and a tasty sax blown by
Heidi Schaefer. Next came the boppin' slappin' « Get Up & Go » that
could have fit perfectly to Rose Madox and her Brothers, Glen's long
time favorite band. A great vocal duet where Christina team with
Libby Langford. Hot Rock, Cool Blues … complete with screams and
laughs! Those gals really had a ball.

To close the record, Chrsitina is back to her blues waitin' « `Till
Daddy Comes Home ». I don't know if he ever will be back but .. if he
does, I will sure ask him to let his Dolly recording some more in the
future. If you dig the 50's country boppin' music that build the Glen
Glenn's unique style, that record is for you.

More infos can be find on myspace.com/hillbillykittenmusic or sending
an email to Christina at kritters@... .

Howdy Glen's friends,

Here's a little post about the celebration of Buddy, Jape and Ritchie
passing anniversary after I read once again the Don McLean statement
used like being definitive. The song is nice but that only a
allegorical statement about the changes that took place at the end of
the 50's when Glen started to "Goofin' Around".

The music surely don't die on February 3, 1959 or on August 16, 1977.
I had never catch with Don McLean statement even if that song is a
very good one. Half a century is gone since that fatal plane flight
but Peggy Sue, Donna and The Big Bopper's funny ways are still
remembered. Music may change our live and always brings memories of
love, friends and joys. Some songs stuck all life long for some
unknow reasons .. Music can't be stopped, music can't be killed,
music can't died, music is life ... Many former Crickets members,
Sonny Curtis, Gary and Ramona Tollett, Sonny West, Jerry Engler,
Tommy Allsup, Dion are still there and keep the memories alive. Buddy
had his movie and stage show worldwide, Ritchie had his movie too and
Jape had his son carryin the tradition on stage. The music surely
don't die on that cold dark night ... We lost three talented
performers who became legends just like it happened later for Patsy
Cline, Hawksaw Hawkins, Cowboy Copas, Jim Reeves or Ricky Nelson. Any
of them would have seen the music died ... Loosing them was enough
and already a high price paid!

That's interesting to note some people quote Buddy Holly having help
to the rock and roll decline using very harmonic construction, " pop"
vocal chorus or violins and celeste in some songs. His postumous
hit "It Doesn't Matter Anymore", issued on January 1959 was far
from "Love Me" issued on April 1956 or "Rock Around With Ollie Vee"
issued on September 2, 1957 by "Decca" to surf on "That'll Be The
Day" succes. Nevertheless, Buddy Holly was a real rockin' boy that
get out the Elvis' shell quickly and set up the fondation for the
Bristish pop. He was a more influential, talented and "far ahead of
his time" than many could have think by February 1959. Then Buddy's
financial and artistic situation was very worst having moved to New-
York, split from The Crickets, without any hits on the charts and
most of his royalties frozen due to legal fights. The need for cash
was the only reason for him to agree for that "Winter Dance Party".
Like Hank Garland he wanted to get far musicaly mixing Blues, Jazz,
R'n'B or Texas Border music with his country roots and deep bluegrass
influence. He sould have been a great producer and ... wanted to be.

So the music don't die on that day but Rock and Roll he was already
wounded badly by Little Richard retirement, Jerry Lee Lewis baby
snatching scandal, Bill Haley's lack of inspiration and bad A & R
choices, Elvis exil in Germany, Alan Freed's fights with the
political and musical establishement, Chuck Berry's escape with an
underage girl, Glen's army stunt ... The majors records labels had
buy or killed many "indies", the pied pipers started to lost them
independance, the TV and the new 45 rpm's records sleeves needed more
pretty faces ... Peggy Sue was ready to get married and a decade was
to end!

But Carl Perkins keep picking his Rock-a-Billy guitar and
bring "Unshaved Dan" in UK 1964, Gene Vincent will bring "Lula" in
France in 1960, Jerry Lee Lewis will shout "I'm On Fire" for Mercury,
Little Richard will get back with "Miss Molly" on Vee-Jay, Chuck
Berry found "Promised Land" ... A decade to wait "American Graffitti"
will bring back Bill Haley and The Comets in the charts with "Rock
Around the Clock". Saddly, many like Clyde McPhatter, Frankie Lymon,
Bill Black or Gene Vincent never saw it ... Few years later, the
Rockabilly comeback was on its way and Glen will play with his long
time friend Rose Maddox in England. He will start to make everybody's
movin' again and was still doin' until his kindney surgery.

Rock and Roll and Rockabilly Music found part of them roots
in "Hillbilly" and "Country" music. As sure as the Carter Family or
Jimmie Rodgers's songs are still played today, Glen's songs will be
played on the next decade.

Good morning Everybody,
I just got off the phone with Glen. He had some very sad news to share with me. He asked me to make a post.

Glen's dear friend since 1954, Molly Bee passed away yesterday morning. Molly just had her 69Th birthday on August 18,2008. Glen had no further news when or where her funeral will take place but Glen & Mary are planning to attend.  She will be dearly missed. Our hearts go out to her family, friends and fans.

Glen wanted to give Molly Bee a Tribute for all the years she sung her heart out for us,entertained us on the television and personally for her lasting friendship. There is a photo of Glen and Molly on the front page.  One of my favorites..listen to Molly's beautiful voice.

Glen kept in touch with Molly though so many years. I was so happy to meet Molly Bee in August 2006. Glen made arrangements  for Molly to attend  the Elvis Honeymoon Tribute. I found Molly to be so much fun...She had way about her to make you laugh or smile.  The memories I have of that day are ones I'll never forget. Glen,Tommy and Molly talking about the old days, looking at some old memorabilia Molly had saved. Remember when??..Looking at each other laughing and remembering years gone by.  Precious !  There are photo's of that day here in the photo section.

To closed....May you REST IN PEACE... Miss Molly Bee.

Dear Friends,

What a sad news for Glen and Mary, our dear friends. When visited
them at home last year, we travelled in Glen's pictures album and
memories. It was great to see to early pics of Glen on them vintage
format and you sure can miss Molly Bee's pretty face and sweet smile.
Just like Goldie Hill, that dolly can trap your heart at the first
sight.

She was born in Oklahoma, like beautiful Wanda Jackson, but her
family moved to Tucson (Ar) and later Pasadena (Ca). She was a
dancing adict before starting to sing at the dawn of her teens. Then
she used to came on stage barefoot just like Janis Martin, another
Glen's friend, will do some years later. At 13 years old, she got a
contract with Capitol throu' Cliffie Stone and Tennessee Ernie Ford
even if Ken Nelson disliked to sign underage performers. She will
appear on the Hometown Jamboree (KLAC-TV), on KXLA radio, on The
Hometown Jamboree. Being at home with Country and pop, in 1955, she
got an offer from "Coral" who tried to build a larger catalog of
styles bringing in Helen Hall and Doug Bragg (both from The Big D
Jamboree)but also Patsy Cline. Like for most of them other Country
artists it's gonna be only a two records deal.

In 1958, she appears on her first movie "Going Steady" and later
on "Summer Love" and "The Chartroose Caboose". In the next years, she
do several TV appearences on the Jimmy Dean show and worked with Roy
Clark and still with Tennessee Ernie Ford. After a musical break and
a divorce, she ws back into the entertainement business in 1975. In
the early 90's, she owned her own club in Oceanside (CA)were Tommy
Sands was booked. In 1998, she was part of a benefit concert in
Newhall (CA) set as an annual tribute to Cliffie Stone. In her long
career she also recorded for "Dot", "Liberty", "MGM" and "Granite"
and recorded classiscs like "Remember Me", "Keep It A Secret", "How's
The World Treating You", "Almost Persuaded" or "You Win Again".

May she rest in Peace in the arms of the Lord.

Hi,

Thank you so much for your message. Yes, we are safe here, but it was
very frightening on Saturday. So many people have died, and they just
keep finding more bodies as they move into new areas. On Saturday the
fires moved so fast that people didn't have time to get out of the
way. It was our hottest day in history and the wind was so ferocious.
We did not evacuate – the fires got about 5 miles to us – but the
roads were closed for 24 hours to keep people away. It is very smoky
here now, but the fires have moved away from us. Now there are many
other towns who are in danger. I will pray for them. At the moment in
the state of Victoria there are more than 130 people dead and about
700 homes lost. It is a terrible tragedy.

Thanks for your thoughts.

Howdy Gang,

That daylight saving will put a real mess on your turntable if you try to play Bill Haley and The Comets 1954 monster "Rock Around the Clock"! It happened to me.
So spin the other side (not B-side 'cause it was the A-side chosen by Decca records executives): Thirteen Women.
The Comets ( more The Jodimars by now) will be back in Europe next month and will play in Swiss and Germany.
Let's all rock togethers!

Thank you Carol..!! My daughter and I are going "Outback" tonight.. Actually I talked her into bringing it home. Nothing like relaxing at home with a juicy sizzling steak from Outback Steak House..

Bob gave me a new computer... Speaking of Bob, has anyone heard from Bob Timmer?

Have a nice evening everyone!!

Howdy Glen's friends,

I am sure glad to join Carol to wish a HAPPY ROCKIN ROLLIN ANNIVERSARY to SUZY Q.
Let's blow those candles light and make that anniversary a reelin' and rockin' event.
We are never too old to rock! Ain't it right, Glen?

Your truly.

Camille Daddy.

Happy Birthday to you!!!!!!

If anyone would like to know about Bob Timmers, please email me. I've spoken to him. I just don't like to put this on a publiclist, I'm sure you understand.
