In some good news this week, Christian music festival comes to Muslim nation; WHITEHEART teams with MEGADETH?; new babies for SHAUN GROVES and NATHAN GADDIS; artist birthdays; upcoming concerts in the Southwest; new album releases; How To Speak Chinese in Only 10 Minutes; and much more!
IN THE NEWS: A Christian music festival will soon be coming to an Arab nation with a 99% Muslim population. Last year, the Wali (Governor) of Marrakech, Morocco gave an invitation to a delegation, who was there researching religious freedom and democratic reform, to hold a music festival in his country. Organizers are now bringing contemporary Christian music to Morocco with “Friendship Fest,” a three-day event May 6th-8th that will “bring
two diverse faiths together in peace and hope.” This free festival is expected to draw over 100,000 people daily and will feature CCM artists JEREMY CAMP, DELIRIOUS?, NEWSBOYS, JOY WILLIAMS, OUT OF EDEN, PHIL KEAGGY, and ROCK ‘N’ ROLL WORSHIP CIRCUS. <><
Two songwriters with diverse musical backgrounds have joined forces to form a new band and record a Worship album. WHITEHEART’s founding member Billy Smiley has teamed up with Dave Ellefson (formerly of heavy metal band MEGADETH) to start “Symphony in Red.” The band’s new worship-oriented project is the first CD in a “Worship Hymn” series that debuts this month and features guest lead vocals by Bryan Oleson (NEWSBOYS) and new worship artist AARON SHUST. For several years, Smiley has been helping to rewrite and rearrange many traditional hymns in a new “worship style” He
currently has over 150 new versions of these hymns that will be recorded on various Worship Hymn projects, including “Traditional,” “Inspirational,” “Contemporary” and “Modern Rock” genres, over the next year and a half. Also the Worship Hymn series will sponsor the "2005 Worship Hymn Song Search Contest," where twelve song winners will be featured next year on a nationally-released album entitled “Worship Hymn--Around the World!” <><
A new Christian teen girl magazine premieres this month on newsstands. “Realiteen” (pronounced “ree-AL-ih-teen”) is a lifestyle magazine covering an array of teen girls' interests from a Biblical perspective. The 52-page premiere issue of Realiteen, published by a small group of entrepreneurial women in their twenties, will include sections on “beauty, boys and relationships, entertainment, fashion, God, health and exercise and faith-focused features.” More than 100,000 free copies are being distributed through youth groups, conferences and Christian camps. <><
