IN THE NEWS: The Gospel Music Channel has acquired the exclusive rights to over 35 years of Dove Awards footage from the Gospel Music Association. The cable network is the country’s only 24/7 channel dedicated to “all styles” of gospel music. GMC also obtained the rights for a second-run broadcast of the GMA Music Awards telecasts through the year 2010. <><
The Gospel Music Channel has announced a couple of new additions to their programming schedule. “Gospel Dream 2005” will feature performers from all over the U.S. competing for the opportunity to be signed by a major record label. Modeled after FOX TV’s “American Idol,” “Gospel Dream” will hold auditions in Detroit, Atlanta, New York, Nashville, Washington (DC), New Orleans, Chicago, St. Louis, Los Angeles and Houston. The auditions will conclude in a two-part finale that will be filmed in Atlanta. The ten, one-hour episodes start on September 15th and build to
the December 8th finale. Sponsored by the Ford Motor Company, each show features the program’s host, judges from the music industry and local radio personalities from each market and artists from the Christian music industry.
Also The Gospel Music Channel will debut the “Gospel Music Channel Sessions,” which will feature performances and conversations with Christian music artists recorded in front of a live audience. The first program in the series will feature MERCYME and debuts June 5th at 7 p.m. CDT. <><
Kellogg’s (yes…the corn flakes people!) is sponsoring the 2005 “Kellogg's Gospel Sing Off Youth Choir Competition.” The showcases will feature youth choirs from across the U.S. demonstrating their talents while “paying tribute to gospel music and celebrating its impact on American music.”
Kellogg’s is asking youth gospel choirs to submit a recording of their group that will be reviewed by a panel of “musical experts.” Forty (40) choirs will be selected to compete in semi-final events in Detroit, Chicago, Washington, D.C., Atlanta and Dallas. Each semi-finalist will receive a cash prize of $500 with Regional winners then awarded $10,000, $5,000 and $2,000 for first place, second place and third place, respectively. The “Gospel Sing Off” grand prize winner will receive a trip to the Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando and the opportunity to perform at the “Night of Joy” Christian music festival at Walt Disney World on September 9th and 10th.
To enter, contestants must submit an audio tape of their group along with one hundred (100) original UPC/bar codes from select Kellogg's, “Cheez-It,” “Famous Amos” or “Keebler” snack products. Entries for the competition must be postmarked by May 6, 2005 and received no later than May 13th. For more info or to request an entry packet, visit kelloggsgospelsingoff.com or call 1-866-305-4813. <><
