In the news this week, MERCYME’s lead singer to release solo project soon; THE AFTERS enjoy mainstream radio success; JEREMY CAMP set to headline tour this fall; WES KING needs your prayers; NICOLE C. MULLEN to appear on “Soul Train”; artist birthdays; upcoming concerts in the Southwest; new album releases; Top 10 Job Interview “No-No’s”; and much more!

IN THE NEWS:  Bart Millard, MERCYME’s frontman and songwriter, is getting ready to release “Hymned,” a collection of hymns the singer says was inspired by his grandmother.  Billed as a “musical fusion of Texas blues, traditional gospel and classic southern influenced hymns featuring Millard’s signature vocals,” the album was produced by Brown Bannister and features guest vocal appearances by Vince Gill, RUSS TAFF and DEREK WEBB and guest musicians including country singer Steve Wariner and steel guitar virtuoso ROBERT RANDOLPH.

“My grandmother, Ruby Lindsey, was an amazing woman,” Millard relates in a recent interview.  “I have a vivid memory of her singing every song on this record to me and my brother growing up.  Of course she sang hundreds, so I just had to weed through them and choose my favorites.”

“Hymned” will be available in the new “DualDisc” format, which combines music, video and other features on a single, two-sided disc that plays on existing CD and DVD players.  The disc will feature studio footage and a diary of the band’s making of this recording and will hit store shelves on August 9th listed at $18.98 retail.  Songs on the project include “Just A Closer Walk With Thee,” “Mawmaw’s Song (In The Sweet By and By),” “Pass Me Not, O Gentle Savior” (featuring Gill), “Have A Little Talk With Jesus,” “Precious Lord, Take My Hand” (featuring Taff), “Softly And Tenderly,” “Sweetest Name I Know” (featuring Randolph), “Power In The Blood” (featuring Wariner), “My Jesus I Love Thee/‘Tis So Sweet” (featuring Webb) and “The Old Rugged Cross.” <><

THE AFTERS mainstream radio single “Beautiful Love” has been selected by American Airlines to air during their in-flight videos for the next three months on approximately 29,000 flights and potentially seen by over 4 million passengers.  Also the Dallas band’s video can be seen all month long (in May) in more than 3,000 national retail stores such as American Eagle, FootLocker and Nordstrom.  And if that is not enough mainstream exposure, Rolling Stone magazine’s website is featuring “Beautiful Love” on their video homepage as one of “The Latest” videos today (access the video at http://www.rollingstone.com/videos?pageid=rs.Home&pageregion=nav.)  “Beautiful Love” from The Afters’ debut album I Wish We All Could Win continues to climb the Hot AC charts, reaching #32 this week.  The band is currently on the road with MERCYME and JEREMY CAMP on “the un-done tour” which has sold out more than half it's venues across the country including Detroit; Dallas; Irvine, California; Washington, D.C.; Columbus, OH; Indianapolis; San Antonio; Sacramento; Visalia, California and Rochester, New York.  The tour also set an attendance record for a Christian music concert (almost 4,500) in Monroe, Louisiana. <><

JEREMY CAMP is set to headline his own tour this fall.  The “Restored Tour” will stop in over 40 cities across the U.S., kicking off Sept. 2nd and running through Nov. 21st.  Joining the Gospel Music Association’s “Male Vocalist” and “New Artist of the Year” on the tour will be BETHANY DILLON and TREE63.   Also Camp will be hitting the main stages at several major summer festivals as well as performing in Morocco at “Friendship Fest” May 6th through 8th.  An historic gathering that will hopefully bring together both Christians and Muslims, the outdoor festival will feature musicians from both the U.S. and Morocco on the same stage to “celebrate peace and tolerance.”  For more info, visit www.friendshipfest.com. <><

Ex-heavy metal musician Brian “Head” Welch and actor Stephen Baldwin have partnered together to form a new record label.  The founding member of Korn and Baldwin will co-own “Livin It Records” where “Head” is currently working on his first solo project since his much-publicized conversion to Christianity.  According to Welch and Baldwin, the newly-created record label has been approached by several private funding organizations and is currently in talks with various distribution outlets and labels:  “We want the music that is created on our label to be with a team that understands the vision and ministry opportunity that is already happening!” <><

SOUNDBYTES:  Family and friends of WES KING are asking fans to pray for the singer, who is battling lymphoma.  Due to chemo treatments which has lowered his immune system, King was recently put in ICU and isolation with pneumonia at a Nashville hospital. <>< Bassist Steve Goodrum has left the Dove Award-winning band SANCTUS REAL.  New bass player Dan Gartley will replace Goodrum starting May 6th at the Agape Festival. <>< Mark Harris of 4HIM is following in the footsteps of bandmate Andy Crisman this summer.  Harris’ first solo album, The Line Between The Two, will hit stores on June 7th. <>< “iTunes” will feature SHAWN MCDONALD’s song “Don’t Walk Away” as a free “Discovery Download” for one week beginning Tuesday (May 3rd.)  The track is from the singer/songwriter’s debut album, Simply Nothing, and can be downloaded from iTunes’ Inspirational page at iTunes.com. <>< The eighth Passion worship project debuted at #1 on the Billboard Top Christian Albums chart and at #74 on the all-genre Billboard Top 200.  Passion: How Great Is Our God was recorded live at the Passion ‘05 worship gathering in Nashville. <>< NICOLE C. MULLEN is set for a guest appearance on “Soul Train” on Saturday, May 14th.  The singer will perform the ballad “Without You” and the funky “Message for Ya” (a bass-heavy collaboration with Bootsy Collins), both tracks from her latest CD Everyday People.  Check local TV listings for airtimes or visit soultrain.com. <>< All-female trio EVERLIFE will record the theme song for the upcoming Disney TV movie Go Figure.  The band is also shooting a video next week for the movie at the Southern Ice Rink outside of Nashville that will be directed by singer/songwriter GARY CHAPMAN. <><  LIFEHOUSE recently appeared on a special “Prom” episode of the WB Network's hit drama Smallville.  The platinum-selling band currently has a self-titled, Top 10 mainstream album that features the Top 10 single "You and Me." <><
