IN THE NEWS: After more than three decades of recording and performing contemporary Christian music, pioneering rockers PETRA is calling it quits. Several members of the band that helped define the rock genre for a whole generation of Christian music lovers have confirmed the group will be retiring at the end of this year. Final tours in the United States and Europe are now being planned with no more concerts being booked after 2005.
According to frontman John Schlitt, the decision to break up was mutually decided between Schlitt and Bob Hartman, Petra's founder, guitarist and primary songwriter. “Bob and I have been blessed by the ministry of Petra,” says Schlitt. “We have had a good long run, and have seen…God’s hand at work in our music on every continent, in every language. The blessings have been unbelievable but now it is time to bring the band to a close.”
In their 30 year career, Petra has sold more than 7 million records, earned four Grammys and ten G.M.A. Dove Awards and were inducted into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame in 2000. <><
DAVID CROWDER BAND is giving fans the opportunity to watch them record their new album with a four-webcam view online at acollisioniscoming.com. The band’s latest release, A Collision, will hit stores on Sept. 27th. The project is being recorded at Crowder’s new studio that was built in the historical barn formerly owned by the late Dr. Pepper creator, Wade Morrison. Legend goes that “Pepper the horse” (the drink’s namesake) lived in this barn in Waco, Texas, which is the birthplace of the Dr. Pepper soft drink formula. Crowder recently purchased the barn along with the former home of Morrison, who first started selling Dr. Pepper in 1885, making it the oldest soft drink in America (and supposedly Crowder’s favorite beverage!) <><
