In this week’s music news, MERCY ME and MICHAEL W. SMITH perform with eight other CCM & Gospel artists at Billy Graham’s last (?) crusade this week; U2’s Bono teams up with Pat Boone in a tribute to the Rev. Graham; the WINANS family mourns their loss; upcoming concerts in the Southwest; new album releases; Top 10 “Lifetime Television” Original Movies; and much more!

IN THE NEWS:  In an Associated Press interview, Reverend Billy Graham reports that his crusade in Greater New York this weekend (June 24-26) will be his last.  "In my mind, it is," Graham says, but there's "a slight possibility" that he'll travel to London in November to preach on his 87th birthday.  The ailing evangelist also says that he's depending on God to help him deliver his message at the three-day crusade, but son Franklin Graham will be standing  by as a “substitute preacher” just in case of an emergency.

The elder Rev. Graham had shunts implanted in his head to help correct a problem with fluid on his brain.  He also suffers from Parkinson’s Disease, which causes impaired balance and coordination, prostate cancer and utilizes a walker due to a pelvic fracture last year.

The Greater New York Billy Graham Crusade will feature many of today’s most popular contemporary Christian, and gospel music artists including MERCY ME, MICHAEL W. SMITH, STEVEN CURTIS CHAPMAN, JARS OF CLAY, SALVADOR, TREE 63, NICOLE C. MULLEN, MARCOS  WITT, THE GAITHER VOCAL BAND, RICKY SCAGGS, and the BROOKLYN TABERNACLE CHOIR. <><

PAT BOONE is celebrating his five-decade long recording career this year by releasing not one, but five different albums, including a gospel collection.  Glory Train hits stores on August 9th that includes a star-studded tribute to evangelist Billy Graham.  The track "Thank You, Billy Graham" features an introduction from U2’s Bono; a spoken-word verse from television talk show host Larry King; and artists Lee Ann Rimes, Michael McDonald and Kenny Rogers taking turns singing on the tribute song.

The seventy-one-year-old crooner recruited Bono at a Grammy Awards after-party following U2's win for "Beautiful Day."  Boone recounts, "I came up behind him and said, 'I think it's time Boone-o met Bono,' and he said, 'We met before.  Our group was just getting started and you were on tour in England.  We were introduced to you, and you were very nice and encouraging.’”  When Boone asked Bono to participate in the Billy Graham tribute tune, he said in a flash, “I will…I admire him greatly.” <><

Hard rock Christian band LIBERTY N’ JUSTICE will release a new album this fall featuring over a dozen different mainstream and Christian singers and guest musicians.  Soundtrack of a Soul will include vocals by Stephen Pearcy, original lead singer of Ratt (he was the vocalist on the Gold-certified record "Round and Round" for the multi-platinum selling rock group); Tim Gaines, former bass player for STRYPER; Jamie Rowe of GUARDIAN; Dale and Troy Thompson of BRIDE; 70’s Teen Idol Leif Garrett; Scott Wenzel of WHITE CROSS; and Phil Naro of the Peter Criss Band (the former drummer for Kiss.)

Liberty n' Justice was founded in 1991 by Justin Murr and Patrick Marchand. For a limited time you can download samples from their new project on LNJ’s website at www.libertynjustice.net. <><

LIFEHOUSE visited CBS-TV’s The Saturday Early Show's “Second Cup Café” last Saturday (June 18th) to perform two songs…their latest single, “You and Me,” as well as the most played radio track of 2001, "Hanging By A Moment."  The multiplatinum-selling band is made up of lead singer and guitarist Jason Wade, drummer Rick Woolstenhulme and bass player Bryce Soderberg.  Also Lifehouse will appear this Wednesday (June 22nd) during the 8:00 AM hour of ESPN2’s “Cold Pizza” to perform "Hanging By A Moment."  The show offers a unique blend of sports for ESPN viewers and airs live from New York City every weekday from 7:00 AM-9:00 AM CDT (re-airs 9:00 AM – 11:00 AM CDT.)  For more info, visit www.coldpizza.tv. <><

SOUNDBYTES:  GRAMMY and Dove Award-winning singer/songwriter AMY GRANT is scheduled to perform live as part of NBC-TV’s "Today Show" Summer Concert Series this Friday morning (June 24th.)  Grant’s latest project, Rock of Ages: Hymns and Faith, was recently picked as a "Critic's Choice" and given a "four-out-of-four" star rating in the latest issue (June 20th) of People Magazine. <>< JARS OF CLAY is asking fans to tell them what should be the next single off their latest album, “Redemption Songs.”  Visit www.jarsofclay.com to sample tracks of the thirteen hymns redone in “Jars” style and vote for your favorite. <>< The WINANS family is asking fans to continue to remember them in their prayers as they mourn the loss of Ronald Winans, the second eldest of the ten siblings.  Winans died peacefully last Friday morning (June 17th) due to heart complications after suffering a massive heart attack in 1997. <><
