In some good news this week, SWITCHFOOT, PAUL COLMAN, DONNIE MCCLURKIN, and SANCTUS REAL; upcoming concerts in the Southwest; new album releases; Top 10 Bumper Stickers Sold at Psychiatrist Conventions; and much more!
IN THE NEWS: San Diego’s multi-platinum selling band SWITCHFOOT releases their fifth studio album on September 13th. Nothing Is Sound will be available as both a traditional CD and a “DualDisc” with the entire album in 5.1 Surround Sound plus exclusive behind-the-scenes footage of the band on-the road and in the studio. Touring nonstop for the past year forced the band to write and record most of this follow-up to their
double-platinum The Beautiful Letdown on the road. According to frontman Jon Foreman, "We wanted to release a record this summer, and we were trying to figure out when in the world we would have time to record it. So we took out a second set of gear, tiny drums and amps, and set up in the dressing room every day and got songs ready. While the opening bands were playing, we were in some tiny room trying to make a record," Foreman admits.
“Stars, the first single from their new CD, was the number one most added single at mainstream alternative radio last week. The band has sold more than one million concert tickets worldwide while the group's two long-form videos, "Live in San Diego" and "Switchfootage," have both certified Platinum by the RIAA. AlsoThe Beautiful Letdown produced two Top 5 mainstream hit singles, "Meant to Live" and "Dare You to Move."
Fans who pre-order the album get a free Switchfoot poster and a free download of “Stars.” For more info, visit switchfoot.com/store/. <><
Grammy-nominated artist PAUL COLMAN teamed up with Habitat For Humanity in Detroit for its “Jimmy Carter Work Project.” The former frontman for the Australian band PAUL COLMAN TRIO joined former President Carter, the president’s wife Roslyn, and other volunteers to help make the dream of homeownership a reality for 31 families in the Detroit area. In addition to construction duties, Colman entertained over 2,500 staff members and volunteers during closing ceremonies with a new song he wrote specifically for Habitat For Humanity, “My Heart is Home.”
SOUNDBYTES: Gospel vocalist DONNIE MCCLURKIN recently won the 2005 BET Television Network Award for “Best Gospel Artist.” The gospel vocalist beat out heavyweights (excuse the pun!) FRED HAMMOND and RUBEN STUDDARD and controversial Hip-Hop nominee Kanye West. <>< Dove Award-winning band SANCTUS REAL was recently featured on MSNBC's “Hardball,” hosted by Chris Matthews. Footage of
the band performing live in Nashville was used in a segment that focused on the Christian music and book industries. See the video of the story at video.msn.com (just type in "Selling the Spirit" in the Video Search box.) <><
