In some good news this week, PASSION website online; ex-Santana front-man LEON PATILLO releases new live project; STEVEN CURTIS CHAPMAN and MERCYME team up for Christmas tour; SWITCHFOOT adds fifth band mate; “Cooter” advises “Dukes” fans to keep kids at home; artist birthdays; upcoming concerts in the Southwest; new album releases; Top 10 Signs You Know That You're Married To A Redneck; and much more!

IN THE NEWS:  The PASSION ’06 conference has launched a website to promote their next event scheduled January 2nd through 5th in the Gaylord Arena in Nashville, Tennessee.  The new site features schedules, promotional materials and online registration for the conference and hotels in “Music City.”  The event’s organizers are expecting an even larger turnout than last year’s conference, which drew more than 11,000 students from all 50 states.  Lead worshippers will include DAVID CROWDER BAND, CHRIS TOMLIN, MATT REDMAN, CHARLIE HALL, SHANE & SHANE, and  Christy & Nathan Nockels of WATERMARK.  Scheduled speakers are John Piper, Beth Moore and Passion founder Louie Giglio. Online registration ends December 15th, with tickets also available at the gates.  For more info, visit 268generation.com. <><

Contemporary gospel music pioneer LEON PATILLO is releasing a live concert CD next month.  The former front-man for the multi-platinum rock group Santana will release "Live Experience 2" through Tag Distribution on August 16th.  Best known as the lead singer for guitarist Carlos Santana’s 70’s band (he recorded and toured with the group for six years,) Patillo also has worked with Funkadelic and Martha and the Vandellas.  But for the last quarter-century the singer/songwriter has concentrated on a solo contemporary Christian music career and touring with the "Get Motivated" conferences, putting him on stage with such luminaries as former Secretary of State Colin Powell, boxer/actor George Foreman and all of the living U.S. presidents.  "Live Experience 2," the follow up to 1983’s "Live Experience," features many new songs and several of Patillo's biggest hits including "J.E.S.U.S." and "Born Again Woman", a reworking of Santana’s "Black Magic Woman." <><

STEVEN CURTIS CHAPMAN is releasing his first all-new Christmas album in almost 10 years on September 27th.  All I Really Want for Christmas is the Yule time follow-up to 1995's Gold-selling The Music Of Christmas.  Also Chapman is teaming up with MERCYME for a special holiday tour, appearing together in 20 markets beginning the day after Thanksgiving and ending five days before Christmas.  MercyMe will be performing their own Christmas songs to promote their upcoming holiday project, The Christmas Sessions, also set to hit stores on September 27th. <><

RELIENT K’s latest project entitled Mmhmm has been certified Gold by the RIAA for sales of over a half million units in the United States.  This is the Canton, Ohio-based band’s second gold album, following 2003’s Two Lefts Don’t Make a Right…But Three Do.  The band is currently touring as a main stage act on this year’s “Vans Warped Tour” and is scheduled to perform on ABC-TV’s late-night show “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” on Tuesday, August 22nd. <><

LINCOLN BREWSTER will release his first live worship recording, All To You…Live, on August 30th.  The album was recorded at Bayside Church in Granite Bay, California, where Brewster serves as worship pastor.  The 13-track CD includes a rendition of “Another Hallelujah,” a worship-infused version of the Leonard Cohen favorite, “Hallelujah.”  Also the project will include a bonus disc containing chord charts for the songs “Majestic,” “Love The Lord,” “You Are The One,” and “For These Reasons;” video footage and studio-recorded versions of three other tunes. <><

EVERYDAY SUNDAY is looking for a new guitarist…again.  On the band’s website, everydaysunday.com, vocalist Trey Pearson reports that “Andrew (Martin), our guitar player, is moving on in life and Everyday Sunday is looking for a new guitar player as we're getting ready to do our third album."  If you or someone you know is interested in auditioning for this gig, send a video playing "Gypsy Girl," "Comfort Zone," and "I Wish I Could Say" to this address:  Everyday Sunday Auditions, 3545 Bigby Hollow Court, Columbus, OH 43228.  Just last month Wade James replaced another guitarist in the band, Jason Siemer, who quit to move to Portland, Oregon with his wife Kimberly “to pursue other dreams.” <><

Hollywood is expecting the soon-to-be-released “Dukes of Hazzard” theatrical remake to be one of this summer’s biggest movies.  But the original “Cooter” is telling fans not to waste their money on the film, which was shot entirely on location near Baton Rouge and New Orleans, Louisiana.  Ben Jones, who played Hazzard County’s lovable mechanic in the original television version of "Dukes," reports on his website the new film is not suitable for children:  "Unless they clean it up before the August 5th. release date I would strongly recommend that true blue Dukes fans hold their noses and pass this one up…and whatever you do, don't take any youngsters to see it.”  Jones adds the only thing the movie shares with the original TV show is the title.  “Oh, they do have the General Lee flying through the air, although according to the New York Times, they didn't even use stunt drivers." <><

QUOTE OF THE WEEK:: “I serve God, and if I'm constantly on my knees, praying daily and worshipping God, I seek Him.  Houses and cars are just extra blessings.  God blesses me because I have not ignored Him, I have only adored Him.  I'm in His will, and no music industry can take that away from me.  When you work with me, there's no drinking, no smoking, no cursing, and if you don't like it, don't work with me.  I serve God, who created all this and can give it or take it away.  A lot of men work to get rich.  I'm happy to be rich in Christ first.”--Rodney Jerkins, record producer of Platinum-selling mainstream artists Jessica Simpson, Britney Spears, *NSYNC, the Backstreet Boys, Enrique Iglesias and Will Smith (from Mix magazine, © 2005, PRIMEDIA Business Magazines & Media Inc.)

SOUNDBYTES:  SWITCHFOOT has officially added a fifth member to the San Diego-based band.  “Drew" Shirley had already been touring with Switchfoot since early 2003 after originally playing in ALL TOGETHER SEPARATE, which disbanded that same year. <><  SHAUN GROVES is headlining a fall tour that includes KENDALL PAYNE and JASON MORANT.  Groves latest CD White Flag, inspired by a Bible study on the Beatitudes that he taught to college students at his home church, debuted at no. 1 on the SoundScan Christian music retail chart two weeks ago. <>< REBECCA ST. JAMES is in the studio putting finishing touches on her new album being produced by Tedd T, who produced her God CD and Matt Bronleewe, the producer of the singer’s Worship God project.  The new CD, scheduled to be released on November 22nd., will be backed with a spring 2006 tour with St. James and special guest BARLOWGIRL. <>< Backstreet Boy BRIAN LITTRELL has announced the release of his solo Christian album has been postponed and will now be released sometime in 2006.  The multi-Platinum boy band has just released their sixth album, Never Gone, and is starting a worldwide tour tomorrow (July 26th), which doesn’t allow Littrell enough time to focus on the final touches of writing and recording his much-heralded debut solo project.<><
