In some good news this week, AUDIO ADRENALINE; SKILLET; MARY MARY; GINNY OWENS; artist birthdays; upcoming concerts in the Southwest; new album releases; Top 10 Reasons Dogs Don’t Use Computers; and much more!
IN THE NEWS: AUDIO ADRENALINE’s frontman Mark Stuart will be cycling across America in the Grammy award-winning band’s first “bike” tour to raise awareness and funds for the “Hands & Feet Project.” Stuart will be traveling almost 3,000 miles on his Victory motorcycle to raise money for the orphanage that his parents run in Haiti. The singer’s bike will be autographed by various celebrities along the way and then put up for bids, along with a live
concert going to the highest bidder, in Audio A’s Second Annual Charity Auction on eBay. Last year’s concert and other items raised more than $60,000 for the project. The “Hands & Feet Across America” tour sets out August 15th in West Palm Beach, Florida and rolls through Orlando, Jacksonville, Atlanta, Birmingham, New Orleans, Houston, Dallas, Tulsa, Albuquerque, Phoenix, Los Angeles, San Luis Obispo and Visalia, California before its final stop in Sacramento on August 26th. Individual or group sponsors of the bike ride can visit handsandfeetproject.org or AudioA.com to make pledges. Audio Adrenaline will release their ninth studio album, Until My Heart Caves In, on August 30th and tours this fall with PILLAR, SUPERCHIC[K], SANCTUS REAL, and KIDS IN THE WAY. <><
The 2005 International Songwriting Competition (ISC) is now accepting entries with the chance to compete for over $100,000 in cash and prizes, including the Grand Prize package – $10,000 in cash and $20,000 in merchandise. ISC is one of the largest songwriting competitions in the world with winners getting extensive press coverage and publicity and gaining recognition from industry professionals and fans. Entrants also will have their songs heard by some of the most influential names in the Christian music industry, including two of this year’s judges, MERCYME and BEBE WINANS. Deadline for submissions is October 14th (for more info, go to songwritingcompetition.com). <><
A new record label is releasing a collection of classic rock songs re-recorded with a spiritual objective. Joshua Records’ first release is Christian Oldies HeavenBound!, a concept album that adds praise and worship lyrics to the melodies of Classic Rock Hits by well-known artists. Featured are “evangelical interpretations” of songs from The Stylistics (“You Make Me Feel Brand New”), War (“Slipping Into Darkness”), The Isley Brothers (“Shout”), Tower of Power (“You're Still A Young Man”), Little Anthony & The Imperials (“I'm On The Outside Looking In”), The Impressions (“People Get Ready”), Ben E. King (“Stand By Me”), B.B. King (“The Thrill Is Gone”) and more.
According to Pebo Rodriguez, the imprint’s Executive Vice President, the motivation for producing this project is “the deliverance of souls through the use of familiar ‘Oldies But Goodies’ recorded with added lyrics reflecting the Lord's message of forgiveness and salvation." To assure the integrity of the project, Rodriguez enlisted the help of evangelist and legendary singer Little Willie G. Willie, who researched the Bible verses that are featured between songs. HeavenBound! features fifteen tracks and comes with a 14-page booklet containing scriptures that tie into the lyrics and title of each Oldie (for more info, visit joshuarecords.org
or christianoldies.org). <><
Will JUMP5 have to “jump back” because of a new Disney teen-pop duo on the horizon? Sister act ALY & AJ have already had two No. 1 singles on Radio Disney with "No One" (from the Ice Princess soundtrack) and "Do You Believe in Magic," a remake of the Lovin’ Spoonful’s 60’s hit that's sold more than 50,000 copies for the duo. Now these siblings will release their debut Christian music CD Into the Rush on August 16th on Hollywood Records. Alyson (Aly) and Amanda Joy (AJ) have been performing together for over eight years, which is quite an accomplishment, since they are only 16 and 14-years-old, respectively. Both sisters are talented actors – Aly is currently
co-starring on the Disney Channel series "Phil of the Future" and AJ has been seen recently in several TV series, including "Six Feet Under," "Oliver Beene," "Birds of Prey," "The Guardian" and "General Hospital." Aly & AJ’s latest release is another remake, 80’s favorite ”Walking On Sunshine,” which can be heard in the movie Herbie: Fully Loaded, that is in theaters now (for more information and free samples of their music, visit popgeneration.com). <><
SOUNDBYTES: AUDIO ADRENALINE’s lead guitarist Tyler Burkum is a new father. Osten Lowe Burkum was born on July 25th and is Tyler and wife Ali's second child (see baby Burkum’s photo here). <>< Congratulations to SKILLET’s frontman John Cooper and band mate (and wife!) Korey on the birth of their new baby boy, Xavier Timothy Cooper, born July 27th. <><
Gospel duo MARY MARY’s new album on Columbia Records debuted at no. 8 on Billboard Magazine’s Hot 200 album sales chart. Also the CD's first single, "Heaven," has topped Billboard's Hot Gospel Songs chart for nine straight weeks. <>< Rocketown Records artist GINNY OWENS sang the National Anthem last weekend at the White House at the “Tee-Ball on the South Lawn” event, a special initiative created by President George W. Bush to “promote interest in baseball and a spirit of teamwork and service for America's youth.” <><
