In the news this week, JACI VELASQUEZ. announces divorce; DEREK WEBB introduces first Christian music podcast; STEVEN CURTIS CHAPMAN & POINT OF GRACE set to release new Christmas albums; this week’s artist birthdays; upcoming concerts in the Southwest; new album releases; Top 10 Things Doctors Really Mean When They Say…; and much more!
IN THE NEWS: Some sad news from Christian and Latin music artist JACI VELASQUEZ. The Houston native has announced her divorce from husband Darren Potuck, who married the singer in a highly publicized wedding in August 2003. Velasquez would not elaborate on the reasons for the split, only saying her marriage took a turn for the worse, which resulted in divorce. The multi-platinum selling artist and Grammy nominee recently moved to London and is currently working on an
all-Spanish language album for the Latin market. Velasquez continues to head up Apostrophe Records, a Christian music label she founded several years ago.
The Christian industry has not always been kind to its artists who have divorced. In 1999, AMY GRANT split from Christian music veteran GARY CHAPMAN and later married country singer Vince Gill. Many radio stations stopped playing Grant’s songs, while several Christian retailers also refused to stock her CDs. But according to a representative of Velasquez’ distributor, Word Records, the label is not concentrating on radio airplay or retail sales but is focusing on helping the 25-year-old singer work through the divorce. Former CAEDMON’S CALL band member DEREK WEBB has introduced to the public his very own iTunes podcast, a first for the Christian music industry. The free podcast features exclusive interviews and performances from Webb, which can be downloaded and listened to on iTunes or on an Apple iPod. Also the singer/songwriter is releasing a live DVD to stores on October 11th. How To Kill And Be Killed will feature behind-the-scenes interviews and live footage of
concert favorites including "Wedding Dress" and "I Repent". <><
The new video Left Behind: World At War is not premiering in theaters but is being released to churches and on DVD on October 25th. Kirk Cameron returns in the starring role, along with his real-life wife, Chelsea Noble, and Academy Award winner Lou Gossett Jr., who plays the President of the United States. To find out how to be a part of the film’s church outreach, go to the official website at www.leftbehind-worldatwar.com. <><
SOUNDBYTES: It’s Beginning To Look Alot Like Christmas…STEVEN CURTIS CHAPMAN is spreading holiday cheer beginning September 27th with his new Christmas album All I Really Want For Christmas. <>< POINT OF GRACE kicks off their holidays early on October 4th with their sophomore Christmas
release, Winter Wonderland. Their first Christmas project, A Christmas Story, was certified Gold way back in the 90’s. <>< The Gospel Dream 2005 nationwide talent search is currently selecting 21 contestants from seven regional auditions in Atlanta, Dallas, New Orleans, St. Louis, Chicago, Detroit and Memphis. The national finals will air on the Gospel Music Channel on Nov. 30th and Dec. 1st. <>< Veteran gospel artist DARYL COLEY has been named national spokesperson for the American Diabetes Association. Coley, who has diabetes, is encouraging radio stations to broadcast his P.S.A.s to help raise

CHUCK’S CHUCKLES:
Top 10 Things Doctors Really Mean When They Say…
10. "If those symptoms persist, call back for an appointment next week." (Your illness is disgusting…thank goodness I'm off next week!)
9. "Well, what have we here?" (I have no idea and I’m hoping you'll give me a clue.)
8. "I’ll be right back after I check your medical history in your records up front.” (I want to see if you've paid your last bill before I waste any more time on you.)
7. "We have some good news and some bad news." (The good news is, I’m going to buy that new BMW; the bad news is, you're going to pay for it.)
6. "This should fix you up." (The drug company slipped me some big bucks to prescribe this junk.)
5. "Let me schedule you for some tests." (I have a forty percent interest in the lab.)
4. "I'd like to prescribe you a new drug." (I'm writing a paper for The Journal of the American Medical Association and would like to use you as a guinea pig.)
3. "If it doesn't clear up in a week, give me a call." (I don't know what it is, so maybe it will go away by itself.)
2. "This may smart a little bit." (Last week two of my patients bit off their tongues when I stuck them with this “horse needle”.)
1. "Do you suppose stress in your life could be affecting your nerves?" (I know a shrink who'll split his fees with me.)
