In the news this week, a former member of THE IMPERIALS dies in car wreck; AUDIO ADRENALINE to be featured in iTunes promotion; DONNIE MCCLURKIN joins the BROOKLYN TABERNACLE CHOIR; KIRK FRANKLIN hosts TBN special; this week’s artist birthdays; upcoming concerts in the Southwest; new album releases; Top 10 Strangest Advertising Signs; and much more!

IN THE NEWS:

The only female to ever be a member of the legendary Christian music group THE IMPERIALS has been killed in a car accident.  Pam Morales-Dietz, a GMA Hall of Fame Inductee and former member of the band, was fatally injured last Saturday (August 27th.)  Morales-Dietz was the sister of The Imperials’ founding member Armond Morales and the aunt of current member, Jason Morales.  Pam sang tenor in the group in the early 90’s, recording the Big God and Stir It Up albums.  She was recently was on staff at First Assembly of God in Bakersfield, California.

Shannon Smith of The Imperials said this about his former band mate:  “While we are obviously saddened at this loss to The Imperials family (and more importantly to the Morales family), we rejoice in knowing that Pam is with Jesus, and we will see her again when we all sing His praises together in heaven.”  Smith also asked for “special prayer for Armond and the whole Morales family.”  The Imperials have been performing gospel music for 42 years. <><

AUDIO ADRENALINE’s latest album Until My Heart Caves In is being featured in an iTunes presale campaign, the first time the online music download store has highlighted a Christian artist.  This presale is a similar marketing gimmick to iTunes recent Coldplay and Dave Matthews Band presales.  When the complete Audio A CD is downloaded for $9.99 before August 30th, purchasers also receive two free exclusive songs, "Last Star Shining" and a live version of "Leaving 99”.  Access the presale at:  http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewPreorder?id=78625733 (remember, you must install iTunes on your PC to participate in this presale.)  <><

DONNIE MCCLURKIN and Jason Crabb (THE CRABB FAMILY) will be guest vocalists on the new BROOKLYN TABERNACLE CHOIR album.  The world-renowned choir’s fifth project on INO Records, I’m Amazed…LIVE, releases September 27th and features a dozen songs, including a worship medley written by director Carol Cymbala.  “There’s something here for everyone:  black gospel, southern gospel, praise and worship and classical music,” says Cymbala.  “We have a diversified congregation, people from Trinidad, Korea, Japan, Jamaica—people from all over the world—they all love these songs and have been blessed by them.” <><

SOUNDBYTES:

KIDS IN THE WAY’s latest video "Apparitions Of Melody" is being played in hundreds of retail stores across the country including Best Buy, J.C. Penny, Wet Seal and Journeys.  The band is touring this fall with Audio Adrenaline on the “Until My Heart Caves In Tour.” <>< KIRK FRANKLIN is hosting a back-to-school youth television special this week , featuring performances from MARY MARY and KIERRA “KIKI” SHEARD.  The Takeover airs on Trinity Broadcasting Network on Wed., Aug. 31st, at 9:00 p.m. and repeats on Thurs., Sept. 1st, at 4:00 p.m. (all times EDT.) <><
