This is the July 3, 2006 edition of Glory2Glory Christian Music E-zine!, a contemporary Christian music and modern Worship newsletter distributed to gospel music enthusiasts around the world.

HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY!

IN THE NEWS:
Question of the week:  What Country music band always thanks “their lord and Savior Jesus Christ” when they win an award for their records?  Answer:  Rascal Flatts.  Accolades go on and on for the multi-Platinum selling trio—numerous Country Music Association “Vocal Group of the Year” awards, Billboard and Radio & Records “Artist of the Year” trophies, a Grammy® award for “Country Song of the Year”, album sales of over 11 million units, etc., etc.  Rascal Flatts’ members Gary LeVox, Joe Don Rooney and Jay DeMarcus are all self-professed Christians.  DeMarcus originally got his start in music as half of the contemporary Christian duo EAST TO WEST, who had several hit records in the early ‘90s, including “Live Like I’m Leaving” which still gets lots of airplay on CCM radio.

In an interview while still a member of East To West, DeMarcus remarked, “…no matter the type of music, if we put God first, He will then open the doors and pave the way that we are to serve Him with our gifts.”  It seems that one would find it tough to disagree with that statement when looking at the accomplishments of this band, whose "Here's To You Tour” in 2005 was attended by over 750,000 people in 70 cities and won Rascal Flatts a “Break-Through Touring Act of the Year” award from Billboard magazine.  Their current "Me and My Gang Tour”, which kicked off February 2nd and is performing to sold out crowds across America, will wrap up with 75 dates in November and is projected to play in front of 900,000 fans.  Whew!  That sure is a long way from Columbus, Ohio, where second cousins Jay and Gary learned to love music during family jam sessions. <><

Multi-Platinum, GRAMMY® and Dove Award-winning band THIRD DAY is getting ready for their fall ’06 leg of the highly successful “Wherever You Are Tour”.  Since their opening date with the DAVID CROWDER*BAND in Fairfax, Virginia in mid-February, Third Day has become the leading touring band in Christian music.  The Atlanta-based group has consistently ranked in the Top 25 on Pollstar Magazine’s “Weekly Concert Pulse”, alongside mainstream artists such as James Taylor, Coldplay, Bon Jovi, Kenny Chesney and Bob Dylan.  Pollstar ranks each artist by box-office gross per city in North America. <><

The latest album from Christian alternative band UNDEROATH has claimed the No. 2 spot on Billboard's Top 200 albums chart in its first week of release.  Define The Great Line is the highest debuting Christian CD on the Billboard Top 200 since Lee Ann Rimes' inspirational project You Light Up My Life debuted at No. 1 in September 1997.  Underoath’s fourth release sold 98,000 units in its first week in stores (with less than 5,000 albums sold by Christian retailers), making it the highest first week sales mark in Tooth & Nail Record's history.  The album also claimed the top spot on Billboard’s “Top Christian Albums" and "General-Market Retail" charts and came in at No. 2 on the trade magazine’s "Christian Retail" chart.

"I feel like I want people to know we're a Christian band," according to vocalist Spencer Chamberlain.  "But at the same time I don't like tacking God or the fact that we're Christian onto something to sell more records.  Tags can be limiting," Chamberlain added.  Underoath is currently playing summer festivals and plans to tour in New Zealand and Australia this fall. <><

SOUNDBYTES:
After four studio releases, an acoustic EP and a live album, GINNY OWENS is releasing a greatest hits package this summer.  If You Want Me To: The Best of Ginny Owens will hit store shelves on August 8th and include two new tracks. <><  Mark Hall, frontman of Platinum-selling and Grammy award-winning band CASTING CROWNS, is releasing his first book with writer Tim Luke on August 29th.  Lifestories: Finding God’s “Voice of Truth” Through Everyday Life chronicles events and life experiences that have inspired many of Hall’s award-winning songs. <>< SRE Records’ Christian rockers DECYFER DOWN is getting a lot of exposure in the sports world with their song “Break Free” from their debut project, End Of Grey.  The NBA, Major League Baseball, NCAA, National Hockey League, Arena Football League and National Hot Road Association have played and broadcast the tune to almost 10 million audience members through on site and television this summer. <><
