This is the July 10, 2006 edition of Glory2Glory Christian Music E-zine!, a contemporary Christian music and modern Worship newsletter distributed to gospel music enthusiasts around the world.

SOUNDBYTES:
American Idol and “Jesus Take the Wheel” hit maker CARRIE UNDERWOOD will sing the National Anthem at the 77th. Annual Major League Baseball All-Star Game at PNC Park in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.  The game will air on FOX TV at 7:00 PM (CDT) on Tuesday, July 11th. <>< Gospel music album sales have experienced almost a 12% increase in sales at the mid-year point in 2006, making it the first time in four years that Christian music sales have risen in the first half of the year.  According to Nielsen’s SoundScan, almost 18 million gospel music albums and digital downloads have been sold year-to-date compared to a little over 16 million units for the same six-month time period in 2005 (in contrast, the overall music business reports a four percent decline in album sales!) <>< Canadian singer/songwriter JENI VARNADEAU recently performed at the Southern Baptist Convention held in Greensboro, North Carolina.  Over 12,000 attendees heard Varnadeau sing “Pray,” which she wrote for SBC’s International Mission Board’s “National Day Of Prayer & Fasting for World Evangelization.” <>< SUPERCHIC[K] recently filmed a music video in L.A. for a remixed version of "We Live" from their upcoming remix project, Beauty From Pain 1.1, that is set for release on Columbia Records on July 18th.  The video was directed by Antti Jokinen (Train, Missy Elliott, Kelly Clarkson) and is already receiving airplay on MTV Overdrive and MTV.com. <>< NEWSBOYS new studio release is set to hit store shelves on October 31st.  The enhanced CD will feature 10 brand new songs from the band plus three bonus tracks, a "Behind the Band" video and a "Behind the Album" video “podcast.”  Fans can pre-order the album now and receive an autographed copy by visiting www.newsboys.com. <>< CECE WINANS has been asked to contribute to a tribute album of songs from country music legend Barbara Mandrell that is scheduled to be released on October 10th.  Winans has recorded "He Set My Life to Music" for She Was Country When Country Wasn't Cool: A Tribute To Barbara Mandrell, which also includes performances by Reba McEntire, Kenny Chesney, LeAnn Rimes and Willie Nelson. <>< Tooth & Nail and Solid State Records are offering their exclusive One Dark Summer digital sampler for free!  Website visitors can download over 30 free songs from alternative Christian artists such as UNDEROATHE, ANBERLIN, ME WITHOUT YOU and EMERY by going to www.purevolume.com/onedarksummer. <>< Multi-Platinum and GRAMMY® Award-winning singer/songwriter AMY GRANT is releasing her first live recording in 25 years on September 26th.  To be released on both CD and DVD, Time Again…Amy Grant Live will feature live versions of her Christian and mainstream hits from the past 25 years including “Lead Me On,” “Father’s Eyes,”" “El Shaddai,” “Baby Baby,” “Every Heartbeat” and a new studio recording of "In A Little While." <>< Should it be long before crossover band SWITCHFOOT hits the road again on a Christian music tour? The San Diego-based rockers’ current album, Nothing Is Sound, fell flat by mainstream standards by only moving a little over a half-million units (according to Nielsen SoundScan), compared to its predecessor, The Beautiful Letdown, which has U.S. sales of 2.6 million. <>< TODD AGNEW’s Grace Like Rain remains at No. 1 for the second week in a row on Billboard’s Top Pop Catalog chart in the trade magazine’s July 15th. issue.  For two weeks now, Agnew’s album has outsold “greatest hits” packages from such mainstream heavyweights as The Beach Boys, Johnny Cash, Tim McGraw and Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band. <>< Gospel music pioneer ANDRAE CROUCH recently received the International Worship Institute's “Cherub Award,” whose past recipients include gospel songwriters BILL and GLORIA GAITHER.  In the 70's, the now 64-year-old pastor recorded many songs that have become church standards, including "Through It All," "To God Be The Glory," "Bless His Holy Name," "Soon And Very Soon" and "The Blood Will Never Lose Its Power." <><

VERSES OF THE WEEK:
“A voice of one calling: ‘In the desert prepare the way for the Lord; make straight in the wilderness a highway for our God.  Every valley shall be raised up, every mountain and hill made low; the rough ground shall become level, the rugged places a plain.’  And the glory of the Lord will be revealed, and all mankind together will see it.  For the mouth of the Lord has spoken."  (Isaiah 40:3-5 NIV)
