VERSE OF THE WEEK:
“Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Savior Jesus Christ” – Titus 2:13 (KJV)
IN THE NEWS:
!Hero, The Rock Opera! is finally returning to the stage after being indefinitely postponed a couple of years ago. MICHAEL TAIT, who plays “Hero”, will head up a 21-member cast with a live band and dancers. The southwest leg of the tour starts on November 2nd on the Baylor University campus in Waco, Texas and then makes stops in Tulsa, Oklahoma City, Austin, Houston and Shreveport, Lousiana. For more info, visit www.heroshows.com. <><
The co-founder and frontman of the legendary Christian metal band STRYPER is releasing a worship-oriented project. MICHAEL SWEET’s first all-new solo effort in five years, Him, includes “timeless standards that have been completely rewritten musically and melodically.” According to Sweet, the singer drew inspiration by searching through a church hymnal and finding songs that have made a lasting impact in his life,
such as “Take My Life,” “Alleluia” and the definitive Christmas favorite, “O Holy Night.” <><
Dove Award-winning trio SELAH is releasing Bless The Broken Road - The Duets on August 8th. The album is a collection of collaborations with some of Christian music’s top names, including original songs “Glory” with NICHOLE NORDEMAN; “I Will Sing of My Redeemer” with BARLOWGIRL; “Follow Jesus (Landa Yesu)”, a duet with NICOLE C. MULLEN; and “Mary Sweet Mary” with PLUMB. The Duets album, which marks the group’s first new project in two years, also features duets with Selah’s new female vocalist, Amy Perry with CHRISTY NOCKELS, Jason and Adam Crabb of the CRABB FAMILY, KIM HILL and JILL PHILLIPS. <><
The rock ‘n’ roller who once may have had Sympathy for the Devil is now jamming for Jehovah. 62-year-old Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards plays on a half-dozen tracks on My Soul is a Witness, a collection of African-American spirituals released by the Lutheran Church, including “I Want Jesus to Walk With Me” and “Rock in Jerusalem.” The project was the brainchild of Richards' sister-in-law, concert vocalist Marsha Hansen, who recorded the tracks at the guitarist's Connecticut home about five years ago. Richards' wife, Patti Hansen, is the sister of Rev. Rodney Hansen, Marsha Hansen's husband and the pastor of Mount Hope Lutheran Church in El Paso, Texas.
The hard to find CD was initially released by Augsburg Books, which is affiliated with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. Initially only 2,500 copies were pressed but now a second printing is on the way. Richards, who isn’t a Lutheran, is joined on the recording by Hansen, former Beach Boys guitarist Blondie Chaplin and Bob Dylan’s drummer, George Receli.” <><
Grammy-award winners THIRD DAY is releasing their first-ever Christmas record in October. Christmas Offerings will feature a combination of studio and live tracks, including live renditions of "Away In A Manger," "Silent Night," "The First Noel," and "Do You Hear What I Hear," as well as studio recordings of classic Christmas hymns "Joy To The World," "What Child Is This," "O Holy Night," "Angels We Have Heard On High," and "O Come All Ye Faithful." The album will also contain four new songs—"Jesus, Light Of The World," "Born In Bethlehem," "Merry Christmas," and "Christmas Like A Child." <><
