IN THE NEWS THIS WEEK--
Latino Christian band SALVADORE and leadman NIC GONZALES recently sang the National Anthem at a St. Louis Cardinals game for the crowd of almost 45,000 baseball fans. The band from Austin, Texas also performed their set in a concert after the game at Busch Stadium and band members were invited to the Cardinals' locker room afterwards to meet some of the players. <><
Canadian Christian rockers DOWNHERE have partnered with www.notfortheweak.com to launch an online community website. The site will provide teenagers a "relevant approach to the 21st. century through articles, music, streaming video, message boards, live chat, and a Q&A with trained youth leaders." The website officially kicked off last weekend with a live chat with band members. <><
NEWSBOYS and JUMP5 are featured on the new "Extreme Skate Adventure" video game from Disney. According to the game's manufacturer, kids are immersed in a skateboarding adventure through the worlds of "The Lion King," "Tarzan," and "Toy Story 2." The video game is available for PlayStation2, Xbox, Nintendo GameCube, and Game Boy Advance. The Newsboys' "Live In Stereo" and "Spinnin' Around" by Jump5 are highlighted on the game along with tunes from mainstream artists including Lil' Romeo, Smash Mouth, and Grits. <><
On the subject of JUMP5, the tweener CCM group is featured on the soundtrack of the new Lizzie McGuire Movie with their cover of "Shining Star" from their new album, "Accelerate," due on store shelves October 7th. So far this year the teen-age singers have performed on the Children's Miracle Network Telethon, had their photo featured on boxes of Zours Candy, and are participating in a national CD sampler campaign this summer in over 50,000 Wal-Mart Stores. Also later in 2003 Jump5 has been scheduled for an appearance on Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade and an ABC-TV Family Christmas television special set for this holiday season. <><
Legendary artist RAY BOLTZ will kick off his fall "Songs From the Potter's Field" tour with MITCH MCVICKER in September. Boltz will visit over 30 cities including Brooklyn, NY; Columbus, OH; Wilmington, NC; Atlanta, GA; Flint, MI; Mobile, AL; and Natchez, MS. SOUNDBYTES: REBECCA ST. JAMES was a recent guest on Bob Dornan Live, a radio call-in talk show heard around the country daily. The former Republican congressman from California introduced St. James as "a shining hope for America's young people at an otherwise very dark hour morally in our history as a nation" because of the singer's outspoken stand on abstinence. <>< Acoustic folk/rock band CAEDMON'S CALL has now officially sold more than one million units. The Houston-based band has recorded five albums in its ten year career. <>< JOHN TESH is releasing "A Deeper Faith II" on September 9th. Along with the musician and composer's second edition of popular Praise & Worship songs, Tesh will also release a devotional book published by Thomas Nelson Publishers entitled "The Power of Prayer & Worship (An Invitation to a Deeper Faith)." <><
