IN THE NEWS--
The Gospel Music Association's 35th. Annual Dove Awards is being moved to a Wednesday night next year. Undoubtedly the event's organizers don't go to church in the middle of the week, so the "powers that be" have scheduled the gala for Wednesday, April 28th., 2004 at The Gaylord Entertainment Center in Nashville (the second straight year for this venue.) According to the GMA's website, tickets go on sale this December to its members and then to the general public in January with "new, more affordable prices" for fans. Get more info at www.doveawards.com. <><
New Canadian artist JILL PAQUETTE (pronounced "puh-ket") has been nominated in CCM Magazine's "Readers Choice Awards" for "Favorite New Artist." I received an e-mail last week from this talented young singer who said she would appreciate all of her fan's votes. Go to www.ccmmagazine.com and find the link at the top of the page that will take you to the survey. Votes will be tallied for several categories all throughout the month of October with winners featured in the January 2004 issue of CCM Magazine. <><
CARMAN is planning another Halloween special on the Trinity Broadcasting Network (TBN) on October 31st. The artist's last Halloween event on TBN generated over 70,000 salvations and organizers are hoping this year's TV special should be no different. The "Halloween: House of Praise Spectacular" will spotlight Christians who are world-class illusionists; feature a demonstration by make-up artist David Powell who created the chilling demons in the Carman videos "Revival in the Land," "Witches Invitation," and "No Monsters;" and recount the true-life story of when Carman accompanied an ex-Satanist and triple murderer who requested he attend his execution. <><
Rocketown Records has signed a download distribution agreement with Liquid, a leading provider of secure digital delivery of music over the Internet. This makes Rocketown the first Christian record label to have its entire catalog of songs and albums available on its own website as well as on liquid.com, towerrecords.com, circuitcity.com, and others. Consumers can now purchase downloaded songs for 99¢ each from the Rocketown roster of artists that include CHRIS RICE, GINNY OWENS, WATERMARK, and SHAUN GROVES. <><
ALATHEA's Mandee Radford ran in the Chicago Marathon this past weekend in hopes of raising more than $13,000 for a small community in Ecuador. The member of the female trio from East Tennessee visited the South American country on a Compassion International trip last May and now wants to construct a much needed pedestrian bridge over a busy highway there. Radford ran the Chicago Marathon once before in 2002 and also completed the Nashville Marathon earlier in 2003. According to Radford, "Jesus has called us to seek out the oppressed, the widows, the orphans, the hurting. I don't have much to give, but I do have my passion and my time. This project seemed like an impossibility from the start, and I know not one person is going to make this happen, but all of us putting our drops together to fill the bucket. It is a privilege to serve. It is a gift to use our small influences to become contributors to something bigger than ourselves, to a need that is bigger than our abilities to fix that need. That's where Jesus steps in." <><
SOUNDBYTES: THIRD DAY is teaming up with TOBYMAC next year for a 75-city tour that kicks off in Spring 2004 in Jackson, Mississippi. The tour will visit cities in 6,000-20,000 seat venues through the summer and early fall months. <>< RELIENT K is releasing a ten-song Christmas album on November 4th. that will be attached to copies of their new EP "Two Lefts Don't Make A Right, But Three Do." The Christmas project called "Deck the Halls, Bruise Your Hand" features the band's versions of holiday classics such as "The 12 Days Of Christmas," "Deck the Halls," "We Wish You A Merry Christmas," and "Auld Lang Syne." <>< KELLY MINTER will release her first book next spring entitled "Water Into Wine" on Waterbrook Press. The Cross Driven Records artist just released her latest project, "Wrestling the Angels," last week and has joined the "More Life Tour" with NEWSONG and TODD AGNEW. <>< MERCYME was recently interviewed by CNN Entertainment reporter Brooke Anderson at the Cable News Network's studios in Atlanta. The CNN Headline News channel aired the segment, which focused on the success of their mega crossover hit "I Can Only Imagine," last weekend and on Columbus Day. <><
