IN THE NEWS:
CBS-TV will rebroadcast "The Christmas Shoes" on Dec. 21st. at 7:00 pm CST. The made-for-TV movie is based on NEWSONG's Christmas favorite and was the No. 1 rated holiday film in 2002 with an estimated 17 million viewers. According to NewSong co-founder Eddie Carswell, "We're ecstatic to see how this song has touched so many lives. We're thrilled to see the movie rebroadcast on CBS and we're reminded daily that this is completely a 'God thing'…We're very excited to be a part of bringing a message of hope this holiday season." <><
Terry Jones is leaving POINT OF GRACE. Jones will continue performing with the Grammy and Dove Award-winning vocal group through March 1, 2004 including their upcoming Christmas tour with Michael W. Smith beginning November 29th. Jones gives this reason for retirement: "With three young children and a wonderful husband at home, it has become increasingly more difficult to juggle it all, and my desire is for me to be the mommy and wife I want to be for my family and myself." Long-time friend Leigh Cappillino has been named to fill the fourth spot along with Denise, Heather, and Shelley. <><
The PASSION Experience Tour 2003 wrapped up this past weekend with more than 40,000 people in attendance with twelve sold-out dates during the 35-city tour. Also at a free event in Boston earlier this month, almost 2,700 mostly college age people filled the historic Orpheum Theatre, which marked what is probably the largest collegiate worship gathering in Bean Town's history. "The prayers of a nation were answered as a capacity crowd filled the Orpheum Theatre in the heart of Boston," reports Passion founder and director Louie Giglio. "Students came from all over Boston to celebrate and lift up the name of Jesus." The 2003 tour featured Giglio, as well as worship leaders CHRIS TOMLIN, DAVID CROWDER BAND, and CHARLIE HALL. <><
AMY GRANT will guest star on two TV specials this Christmas season. CBS-TV's "Home for the Holidays" will air on December 23rd. and will include Grant and husband Vince Gill along with mainstream artists Sheryl Crow, No Doubt, Enrique Iglesias, and Mary J. Blige. The program was taped in front of 450 adopted children and their families and will spotlight children who are waiting for adoption. Also Grant will perform some of her Christmas tunes on the "Nick at Nite Christmas Special" featuring Gill (this couple is inseparable!), Clay Aiken, and Kenny Loggins. The program is scheduled to air seven times during the holiday season on the Nickelodeon TV network on November 28th.; December 3rd., 6th., 12th., 16th., 21st.; and on Christmas Day.
Grant and Gill will also get together for a holiday concert tour called "Simply Christmas with Amy Grant and Vince Gill." The event will stop in 19 cities from Nov. 28th. to Dec. 22nd. and will feature comedian Henry Cho and the Nashville Chamber Orchestra. <><
SOUNDBYTES: DELIRIOUS? will perform 14 Acquire the Fire conferences this spring and also headline an 18-city tour in April 2004. <>< ChristianityToday.com has named SWITCHFOOT's "The Beautiful Letdown" as "Best Album of the Year." CHUCK'S CHUCKLES:
(With Turkey Day happening this week, here's a poem to read when awakening with acid reflux late Thursday night.)
Twas the night of Thanksgiving, but I just couldn't sleep;
I tried counting backwards, I tried counting sheep.
The leftovers beckoned, the dark meat and white,
But I fought the temptation with all of my might.
Tossing and turning with anticipation,
The thought of a snack became infatuation.
So I raced to the kitchen, flung open the door,
And gazed at the fridge full of goodies galore.
I gobbled up turkey, cornbread dressing, and mashed potatoes,
And fruit salad, green bean casserole, and even tomatoes.
I felt myself swelling, so plump and so round,
'Til all of a sudden, I rose off the ground!
I crashed through the ceiling, floating into the sky,
With a mouthful of banana pudding and a handful of pumpkin pie.
But I managed to yell, as I soared past the trees,
HAPPY EATING TO ALL…PASS THE CRANBERRY SAUCE, PLEASE!! <><
