In some good news this week, PAUL COLMAN goes solo; Dove Awards nominees T.B.A. next week; artist birthdays; upcoming concerts in the Southwest; new album releases; Top 10 Dumb Inventions; and much more!
IN THE NEWS: After four studio and two live albums, a Grammy nomination, and a Dove Award, the PAUL COLMAN TRIO is calling it quits as of February 21st. According to their website, the Australian band is discontinuing touring and recording together “primarily due to financial and family considerations.” PC3 bassist Grant Norsworthy will be based in Nashville “pursuing songwriting and bass playing opportunities” while drummer Phil Gaudion has returned to Australia to produce and engineer recording sessions. Guitarist/vocalist Paul Colman will also be based in Nashville and continue as a solo artist performing live on stage with only an acoustic guitar or with a different backing band at concerts. During their CCM career which started in 1998, the trio had performed concerts in the US, Canada, Holland, Denmark, Sweden, Germany, New Zealand, and Australia. <><
The “Imagine Tour” featuring MERCYME, AMY GRANT, and BEBO NORMAN will stop in 25 cities through March 8th. The concerts will be promoted on both Christian and mainstream radio stations due largely to MercyMe’s crossover Gold single, “I Can Only Imagine,” and Amy Grant’s successful CCM and mainstream career. Tour dates include Jacksonville; Shreveport; and Dallas this month and Montgomery, Alabama; Chattanooga, Tennessee; and Norfolk, Virginia in March. According to MercyMe frontman Bart Millard, “My vision for this tour is to see lives completely changed. When we were talking with Amy about the tour, she smiled and told me this was why she longed to be a part of this tour as well. We’re so excited that she and Bebo (are) out on the road with us.”
MercyMe’s “Almost There” project has been certified Platinum (over 1 million in sales.) Amy Grant, who has sold almost 25 million albums in her 25-year career, has been inducted into the Gospel Music Association Hall of Fame. And singer/songwriter Bebo Norman garnered eight Dove Award nominations in 2003. <><
SOUNDBYTES: NEWSBOYS, REBECCA ST. JAMES, and JEREMY CAMP kick off the “Adoration Tour” in Norfolk, Virginia on February 12th. The tour will visit 34 cities through April 4th. including Detroit, Denver, Seattle, Chicago, Los Angeles, Orlando, Atlanta, and Minneapolis. <>< Nominations for the 2004 Dove Awards will be held at Gaylord Entertainment Center in Nashville on February 10th.
