In the news this week, “The Passion of the Christ” tickets sales strong; Dove Awards nominations; NEWSBOYS; REBECCA ST. JAMES; artist birthdays; upcoming concerts in the Southwest; new album releases; and much more!
IN THE NEWS:
Mel Gibson’s “The Passion of the Christ” is only a few days away from premiering in the U.S. and advance ticket sales are already “unprecedented,” according to AMC Theaters spokesman Rick King. Also the online and phone ticketing service for movie theatres, Fandango, reports that "The Passion" already is making up 54 percent of its total ticket sales.
King says that his theater chain has been only selling advance tickets to groups of 25 or more for the film that documents the last days of Jesus’ life, yet their group sales department has two to three days' worth of backlog on sales inquiries. The AMC Theaters spokesman adds, “We've pre-sold a number of auditoriums, and we will be running multiple prints." To read the entire story, visit:

Also “The Passion” movie soundtrack is now available for pre-order from the film’s official website. John Debney was chosen to compose the music for this inspiring and moving soundtrack. Debney is the composer for many successful film soundtracks including “Bruce Almighty,” “Elf,” “The Tuxedo,” “Spy Kids 2: Island of Lost Dreams,” and “Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius.” For more info, to hear samples, or to pre-order, visit

This year’s Dove Awards nominations were announced last week in Nashville with STEVEN CURTIS CHAPMAN once again leading the pack of nominees. Chapman was given the nod for Male Vocalist of the Year along with DAVID PHELPS of the Gaither Vocal Band, BART MILLARD of MERCYME, JEREMY CAMP, and MARK SCHULTZ. Female Vocalist of the Year nominees are STACIE ORRICO, JOY WILLIAMS, NICOLE NORDIMAN, REBECCA ST. JAMES, and CECE WINANS.
Also Winans’ latest project “Throne Room” was nominated for Praise & Worship Album of the Year along with “Adoration: The Worship Album”—NEWSBOYS, “Illuminate”—DAVID CROWDER BAND, “Offerings II - All I Have to Give”—THIRD DAY, and “Worship Live”—SALVADOR. The 35th. Annual Dove Awards show will be held on Wednesday, April 28th. <><
It’s finally official that NEWSBOYS’ guitarist Jody Davis will not be returning to the band’s lineup. Recently Davis had been taking regular breaks from touring with the group with Bryan Oleson from CASTING PEARLS filling in. Now Oleson has been asked to stay as his permanent replacement. The Newsboys are currently on tour with REBECCA ST. JAMES and JEREMY CAMP and the band will return to the studio soon to record new material. <><
Speaking of REBECCA ST. JAMES, the native Aussie visited Washington last week to speak to members of the Bush administration. The outspoken advocate for abstinence visited in the West Wing with senior administration advisors and spoke to a lunchtime gathering of Bush staffers. Also last Sunday night the Fox News Channel profiled St. James and former dcTALK member MICHAEL TAIT. The Fox Magazine segment offered viewers a fascinating glimpse of St. James’ career and ministry and spotlighted Tait’s participation in the new tribute album “In The Name Of Love: Artists United for Africa”, which includes his band's remake of U2's "One." <><
SOUNDBYTES:

JAMES, SANCTUS REAL, SKILLET, SUPERCHIC(K), and TAIT. <>< 12 STONES bassist Kevin Dorr has left the band, which is currently in the studio recording the follow-up to their self-titled debut album. <>< Have you been waiting for some new music from THE WAITING? On their former label mates the SMALLTOWN POETS’ website, The Waiting frontman Todd Olsen recently announced the band has been writing some new material and “hopes to begin recording (again) soon.” <><
