In some good news this week, AMY GRANT cancels concert to attend play; DARRELL EVANS is back; SKILLET the latest Christian band to go mainstream; artist birthdays; upcoming concerts in the Southwest; new album releases; the “Top Ten Reasons Eve Was Created”; and much more!
IN THE NEWS:
AMY GRANT cancelled her appearance with MERCYME and BEBO NORMAN on the “Imagine Tour” in Dallas last Friday night, but the Grammy and Dove Award-winning singer was not sick. Grant flew home to Nashville after her Fort Smith, Arkansas show to attend her daughter's 8th. grade play. On Thursday morning, Mrs. Vince Gill found out that the only performance of the full production of her daughter’s play would be on Friday night. According to Grant’s fan newsletter, she “feels strongly that her first commitment is to her daughter and she is unwilling to miss (daughter) Millie's only 8th. grade play.” <><
Worship artist DARRELL EVANS has signed with a new label and will release a new project on April 6th. The writer of such popular worship anthems as “Trading My Sorrows” and “Let The River Flow” has signed with Spirit-Led Records and will release “Consuming Fire: Darrell Evans & Friends.” This new album features an “all-star” line-up of Worship leaders/artists PAUL BALOCHE, CHARLIE HALL, KATE MINER of the Vineyard music series, and Mike Weaver of BIG DADDY WEAVE. The live CD was recorded at World Revival Church in Kansas City, Missouri and Trinity Church in Amarillo, Texas. <><
SKILLET has signed a major record label deal and will reissue their current album to mainstream audiences. Lava, a subsidiary of Atlantic Records, will re-release the band’s fifth project, “Collide,” which was originally released on Memphis-based Ardent Records. The album will hit mainstream music store shelves on May 11th. on the new label with “Savior” as the band’s first single. According to Skillet bassist/frontman John Cooper, "We've been waiting for this for ages. We always believed that this would happen at some point, but I have to say there were many times when I'd start to think, OK, who knows if this is going to work?" When asked how success might affect Skillet’s “spiritual center,” Cooper says he doesn't want to look back in a few years and decide, "I really don't like who I've become and I've really lost the mission aspect of what I've done just so I could sell records. That would be devastating to me--we still want to spread the hope that we have found."
The group was formed nearly a decade ago and is nominated this year for a Gospel Music Association’s Dove Award for “Best Modern Rock Song” while Cooper is also a Dove nominee in the “Special Event Album of the Year” category for “Hero: The Rock Opera.” Other Lava artists include Kid Rock and Uncle Kracker. <><

CHUCK’S CHUCKLES:
Top Ten Reasons Eve Was Created--
10. God was worried that Adam would frequently become lost in the garden because he would not ask for directions.
9. God knew that one day Adam would require someone to locate and hand him the TV remote.
8. God knew Adam would never go out and buy himself a new fig leaf when his wore out and would therefore need Eve to buy one for him.
7. God knew Adam would never be able to make a doctor, dentist, or haircut appointment for himself.
6. God knew Adam would never remember which night to put the garbage on the curb.
5. God knew if the world was to be populated, men would never be able to handle the pain and discomfort of childbearing.
4. As the Keeper of the Garden, Adam would never remember where he left his tools.
3. Apparently, Adam needed someone to blame his troubles on when God caught him hiding in the garden.
2. As the Bible says, It is not good for man to be alone!
1. When God finished the creation of Adam, He stepped back, scratched his head, and said, "I can do better than that!"
