IN THE NEWS:
According to recent studies, the second leading cause of death among college students is suicide, which kills more students than cancer, heart disease, lung disease, diabetes, pneumonia, influenza, strokes, and AIDS combined. The “U-Tour” wants to provide young people with alternatives to suicide and to educate others in how to recognize a person at risk. Organizers envision bringing popular Contemporary Christian artists and powerful speakers together to convey a message of hope to students on every major university campus in the country over the next seven years. By teaming up with campus ministries, local churches, and campus health professionals, U-Tour wants to help college students understand depression and give them the tools to identify and assist others that may be struggling with suicidal thoughts.
From October through December 2004, U-Tour plans to visit the twelve universities in the Southeastern Conference (SEC). The kick-off concert is scheduled at the University of Georgia on October 19th. with bands including DOWNHERE, TREE 63, and APOLOGETIX. For more information on the U-Tour, visit http://www.utour.org. <><

CHUCK’S CHUCKLES:
Top 10 Rules of the South--
10. Don't order a steak at a Waffle House (they serve breakfast 24 hours a day, so let them cook something they are familiar with.)
9. Don't laugh at Southern folk's names (Earleen, Bubba, Luther Ray, Bobbie Sue, and Inez have been known to beat someone silly for less than that!)
8. Ordering a bottle of “pop” or a can of “soda” can also lead to a beating (down here it's called “Coke”, even if you want a Pepsi.)
7. Remember, Southern women don't fancy to smart-mouth Yankees (also remember, these gals have BIG brothers and even BIGGER daddies or husbands.)
6. Don't display a bumper sticker from any college football team other than an S.E.C. team like LSU or Ol’ Miss (anyway, all the other school conferences have a bunch of sissies who play wimpy teams like Wyoming every week.)
5. Don't call us a “hillbilly” (remember, many of us even got through high school and are a whole lot more modest than you, too!)
4. Yes, we know the humidity is high, so just quit griping and spend your money and go home.
3. No, the state symbol of Louisiana is not the orange and white highway barrel.
2. We don't play hockey or lacrosse or any of them other sissy northern games, so don't look for those scores in the local newspaper.
1. Don't go to the Cracker Barrel and order toast and jam. If you do this, everyone will know you're from Ohio (just eat the biscuits and gravy like God meant for us to do!)
