In some good news this week, Switchfoot continues climb; PFR going “acoustic”; Skillet’s mainstream tour; Mark Schultz tops AC charts; artist birthdays; upcoming concerts in the Southwest; upcoming new album releases; Top 10 Food Items Rejected By McDonalds; and much more!
IN THE NEWS:
As SWITCHFOOT’s "Meant To Live" climbs into Radio & Records magazine’s mainstream CHR Top Ten chart, the San Diego-based Platinum-selling band wins the "Smash Off" competition on the Pepsi Smash TV program on the WB Network last Thursday night. Viewers across the country were asked to vote for their favorite artist but another band, Sugarcult, was inadvertently named the winner due to an “error in the coding of the votes.” The mistake was corrected on a rerun of the show Sunday with Jon Foreman and the guys coming back at the end of the telecast to perform “Dare You to Move" during the "Smash Off." <><
SOUNDBYTES:
In last week’s issue of Glory2Glory we reported that PFR was reuniting to go back into the recording studio in August. Now we hear the new album will feature eight tracks of acoustic versions of classic PFR songs and two brand new cuts.<>< SKILLET is set to tour with mainstream band Saliva starting next month. If you’ve never heard of Saliva (I hadn’t!), they are best known for their duet with Nickelback's lead singer on the song "Hero" from the Spider-Man movie soundtrack.<>< MARK SCHULTZ is currently topping mainstream Adult Contemporary radio station charts with his collaboration with pianist Jim Brickman. "Til I See You Again" has hit no. 1 on several AC radio stations across the U.S.<>< Billy Buchanan, lead singer of FUSEBOX, will be touring with REBECCA ST. JAMES on most of her summer dates and on this fall's "Adoration Tour" with NEWSBOYS. Fusebox got it's start as St. James’ stage band and opening act for three years.<>< Speaking of NEWSBOYS, new babies arrived this spring for two families of the band. Bassist PHIL JOEL and wife Heather welcomed Philip Eden, weighing in at 7 pounds, 5 ounces. Also road crew member Bryan Olesen and wife Jennifer added to their family with the birth of 7 pound, 3 ounce baby boy Liam Keller Olesen.<>< LUNA HALO is getting ready to go into the studio once again to record a full-length CCM project. The band, formerly known as REALITY CHECK, is also set to tour Europe next month and open several dates for 80’s chart-toppers The Psychedelic Furs and Blondie.<>< P.O.D.’s album Payable On Death was recently certified Platinum (one million units sold.)
