In some good news this week, A’postrophe Records wins GRAND PRIZE; PFR sets a new “record”; KENDALL PAYNE resurfaces; MERCYME scores mainstream Top 10 hit; upcoming concerts in the Southwest; upcoming new album releases; ”Rapture” Headlines; and much more!
IN THE NEWS:
JACI VELASQUEZ’ new record label, A'postrophe Records, has signed CCM rock group GRAND PRIZE, a Boise, Idaho-based band that includes lead singer/acoustic guitarist Luke Caldwell, electric guitarist Steven Harder, bassist Tony Caruso, and drummer Nolan Mather. Velasquez met the band members during Gospel Music Association Week in Nashville earlier this year and signed them up without ever hearing any of their music. “I hadn't even heard their music or seen them live but I knew they were right for A'postrophe,” Velasquez reports in a press release. “I got to know their hearts and thought, ‘So now what do they sound like and can they sing?’ I knew that if the songs were as incredible as their hearts and ministry then we had found something spectacular,” she adds. Grand Prize formed while Caldwell was in Bible college and he felt a calling to start making music. Their first album on A’postrophe, Identity, is set to be released in January 2005 and is the band’s follow-up to their independent release in 2002. The band’s debut CD Reveal Your Love sold over 8,000 copies to a loyal fan base from their extensive touring. For more info visit www.grandprize.com. <><
PFR has completed their “comeback” album in “record” time! The trio, who has announced at least twice in the past several years it had “disbanded,” recorded the new project in only one week, according to band member Patrick Andrew’s website. PatrickAndrew.com reports the CD may include three new songs along with acoustic versions of past PFR classics. According to Andrew, a “rejuiced” version of “Wonder Why” will be “intense.” “I feel we wrote some of our best songs…One was born out of the tragedy in Russia,” Andrew says in a thread on his site’s discussion board. PFR’s bassist also reports that as soon as the master is completed and returned to the band sound clips will be available on their website. The new album should be released before Christmas. <><
Remember KENDALL PAYNE? The singer/songwriter’s debut album, Jordan’s Sister, generated several CCM radio hits in the late 90’s but then a sophomore project never materialized. But now her website, kendallpayne.com, reports the long-awaited follow-up CD entitled Grown is available through Payne’s site. <><
