IN THE NEWS:
During a recent performance from modern Worship/Rock band DELIRIOUS? at the UK's Grapevine Festival in Lincolnshire, a section of the grandstand seating collapsed. Several concert goers were taken to a local hospital with serious injuries and at least a dozen others suffered minor injuries when a section of seating at the 5,000 seat venue gave way. The British Broadcasting Company gave this eyewitness report: "We were waving our arms and jumping around to a Christian rock group called Delirious?, then you could feel the seats vibrating. All of a sudden the seats vanished. After it happened, people were very calm and left in an orderly way." <><
Passion ’05 is set for January 2nd.-5th. in Nashville, Tennessee with college students from around the nation and the world gathering in “Music City USA” to hear speakers including Passion Conference founder/director Louie Giglio and authors John Piper and Beth Moore. Also Worship leaders CHARLIE HALL, DAVID CROWDER BAND, CHRIS TOMLIN, MATT REDMAN, and SHANE & SHANE will lead the expected 18,000 young participants. Unlike previous outdoor Passion Conferences that have drawn over 60,000 college students, Passion ‘05 will be held indoors at the Gaylord Entertainment Center in Downtown Nashville. The conference will also provide smaller breakout sessions in various venues throughout the downtown area, all within walking distance from the arena. <><
Speaking of Matt Redman and Chris Tomlin, these lead worshippers/artists have combined for a total of 22 songs in the latest Top 500 list of the Christian Copyright Licensing International (CCLI) charts. CCLI licenses songs to churches and other congregational meetings. Redman's anthems on the chart include "The Heart of Worship," "Better Is One Day," "Let Everything That Has Breath," "Let My Words Be Few," and "Blessed Be Your Name," while Tomlin-penned songs include "Forever," "We Fall Down," "The Wonderful Cross," "Famous One," and "Enough." <><
15-year-old CCM artist BETHANY DILLON recently helped judge the first-ever Salvation Army and Dallas Cowboys National Youth Service Award. Sports reporter and actress Lisa Guerrero and Miss Teen USA 2003 Tami Farrell joined Dillon to help select the award recipient, 20-year-old Misty DeMichael of Newark, Ohio, who received a $10,000 college scholarship award. Dillon and her fellow judges are slated to attend an awards ceremony on Tuesday (September 21st.) in Washington, D.C. honoring DeMichael and the three other Youth Service Award nominees. According to Major George Hood, National Community Relations and Development Secretary of The Salvation Army, "Bethany Dillon is a positive role model for today's teens and her involvement in our program will help us spread our message to this very important younger audience." <><
